I have never met a consistent winning gambler who didn’t follow these laws even if the gambler couldn’t state them. These laws don’t deal with specific systems or betting rules. These laws are far more important than just learning a system and then rushing out to try it. You might think of these Laws as the foundation of every successful gambler. Anyone may get lucky and win once in a while, but to be a consistent winner, you must follow the Laws of Winning Gambling. Law 1. The Winning Gambler will only play games that are beatable. Of the casino games, blackjack, craps, roulette, baccarat, sic bo, three-card poker and video poker are beatable. The games of Keno, slot machines and Big Six are hard to beat. For non- casino games, horse racing and sports betting as well as poker can be good choices for winning gamblers. Playing state lotteries and bingo are poor choices. This paper documents the cognitive distortions of Chinese Baccarat gamblers from guidebooks written by five experienced Chinese gamblers. The analyses of their descriptions of Baccarat and their observations about other Chinese gamblers show that the objective of the vast majority of Chinese Baccarat players is to make quick money rather than view Baccarat as a form of entertainment. Further, cognitive distortions—such as the gambler’s fallacy, illusion of control, illusory correlation, interpretive bias, and availability of others’ wins—are pervasive. Some erroneous perceptions have Baccarat-specific representations, such as following trends, money management tricks, and following winners. These findings may contribute to prevention/awareness education and counseling services for pathological gamblers.
