To claim your MyWitt Account, click the “Go to MyWitt” button below. Then, select the “Click here to register your student account” link at the bottom of the page. This allows you to complete the rest of your checklist! Connect with Wittenberg □ Share your Tiger Pride with #IHeartWitt on social media as you celebrate your plans to attend Wittenberg University! □ Follow Witt’s Happening to not only get plugged in to campus life, but for important reminders all summer. Find us on Twitter (@Witts_happening), Facebook (Witt’s Happening), and Instagram (@wittshappening). Page 1 New Tiger Checklist Actions to complete by June 3rd Housing Preferences □ Access your housing preference information through your MyWitt portal. If you have accepted your admittance after June 3rd, your preferences will be evaluated on a rolling basis. Check out more information here: https://www.wittenberg.edu/student- life/residencelife/housing-lottery-new-students-only □ For students requesting housing accommodations, please make sure you register with the Office of Accessibility Services by completing the registration process and submitting appropriate medical documentation from a health care provider or mental health professional. For more information about the process, please visit the Office of Accessibility Services webpage: https://www.wittenberg.edu/academics/studentsuccess/housing- accommodation-information Placement Exams (Math and Language) □ Math Placement: Everyone, regardless of credit awarded, should take the math placement test. Students who submitted an official ACT or SAT score as part of the application can use those scores instead of a placement test. If you wish to use your ACT or SAT score for your math placement, contact the Registrar’s office at [email protected] or 937-327- 6131. Score equivalents are located here: https://www.wittenberg.edu/administration/mathworkshop/actsat-score-equivalents. Scores must have been officially submitted through a testing center or official high school transcripts. □ Language Placement: Students who have studied Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, or Spanish at the high school level or higher should take the language placement exam to indicate which class level they are able to begin with. Students who have received credit in their preliminary transfer credit evaluation for a Language 112F course or higher do not need to take the placement exam. □ Language Placement: Students who have not studied Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, or Spanish at the high school level or higher do not need to take a placement exam. The registrar will assign them a placement of “Any 111,” which means that they are eligible to take a beginning level class in any of our languages. Page 2 New Tiger Checklist Course Preferences □ Access the online portal that you will use to register for classes, explore all of the great student groups Wittenberg has to offer, and learn all about our academic programs and potential majors. Students will need to sign in to the My Course Preferences Webpage with their Wittenberg username and password: preo.wittenberg.edu Financial Game Plan □ It's important to have a financial game plan for your college expenses in the upcoming academic year. Login to your MyWitt portal to share your financial game plan and identify how we can help: my.wittenberg.edu Setup Accessibility Accommodations (if needed) □ As you may know, obtaining special accommodations in college is different than it is in high school. If you previously had a 504 Plan, IEP, or medical documentation that would reflect the need for accommodations, be sure to complete the confidential registration process with the Office of Accessibility Services to receive appropriate accommodations to perform at your best: www.wittenberg.edu/academics/studentsuccess/accessibility- services □ Please be advised that the registration process takes time, so it’s important to start the process before the start of term to ensure your accommodations are in place when classes begin. Students must actively request accommodations through the Office of Accessibility Services, even when they transfer from another college, in order to receive them. □ Accessibility Services will be available at Orientation events in July to meet with you and discuss the process and your specific needs. Additionally, you can contact the COMPASS: Sweet Success Center via email ([email protected]) or phone at (937) 327-7806. Page 3 New Tiger Checklist Actions to complete by June 17th Loan Applications Due □ If you would like to apply for need based Financial Aid, you will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Upload your Student ID Photo □ Upload a photo of yourself for your campus ID on the picture upload site: http://pictures.wittenberg.edu/Account/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fAccount%2fLoginWSSO .aspx%3fun%3dZuxMGVdDrl36nS4J31ncKA%253d%253d&un=ZuxMGVdDrl36nS4J31ncKA %3d%3d Register for Orientation □ Login to your MyWitt portal to sign up for one of the upcoming Orientation sessions happening this summer! my.wittenberg.edu Page 4 New Tiger Checklist Actions to complete by July 15th Send in Final Transcripts □ Please be sure to have your final transcript sent to Wittenberg as soon as your final grades from your previous college are complete. This is important for transfer credits to be granted. To learn more about how AP credit is awarded, check out the following information: https://www.wittenberg.edu/sites/default/files/media/registrar/2018- 19AdvancedPlacementEvaluation.pdf Health Forms □ You will need to complete medical paperwork/health forms and send into Wittenberg before you begin your classes. This is very important for us to have your medical history should any medical emergencies arise while you are a student at Wittenberg. Student athletes need to submit these forms in addition to their student-athlete health packet. Click here for the health forms: https://www.wittenberg.edu/administration/healthwellness/health-wellness-forms Student-Athlete Health Packets □ In addition to the health forms and medical paperwork submitted above, student- athletes should complete and turn in their student-athlete health packet. Check out this link for more information: http://www.wittenbergtigers.com/sportsmedicine/incoming Billing Statements □ Information coming soon! Page 5 New Tiger Checklist Actions to complete by August 5th College Student Inventory □ To help set you up for success, please complete an incoming student inventory. This is your opportunity to tell us what you, as an individual student, want, need, and expect from us. Survey will be live soon! Alcohol.edu □ As part of a comprehensive prevention program, Wittenberg expects you to complete AlcoholEdu prior to enrolling in classes at Wittenberg. AlcoholEdu is a non-judgmental alcohol prevention program that uses evidenced-based research to educate students about alcohol and its effects. Many students choose not to drink. Whether you drink or not, AlcoholEdu will empower you to make well-informed decisions about alcohol and help you better cope with the drinking behavior of your peers. Information on when and how to log in to complete the course will be coming soon. Register your Vehicle □ If you are bringing a vehicle to campus, you are required to register your vehicle with the Wittenberg Police Division. The cost of vehicle registration is $125/yr. or $75/semester. Since parking is very limited, as Wittenberg is a walking campus, a reserved parking lot is available. Students may obtain access to this lot at a cost of $250.00/year, which includes the vehicle registration fee. Please use this link to register your vehicle: https://my.wittenberg.edu/wlconnect?type=p&site=vr.wittenberg.edu Prepare for Welcome Week □ #WittsHappening will highlight all of the events and programs during Welcome Week! There will be a few required events for all incoming students to attend, and other events that will help you connect with all students, faculty, and staff on campus. Check out the full schedule here: https://www.wittenberg.edu/student-life/studentinvolvement/events- programs. Page 6 .

  • Mediating Precarity Through Mobile Apps
Selected Papers of #AoIR2020: The 21st Annual Conference of the Association of Internet Researchers Virtual Event / 27-31 October 2020 MEDIATING PRECARITY THROUGH MOBILE APPS Ragan Glover-Rijkse North Carolina State University Melissa Stone North Carolina State University Megan Fletcher North Carolina State University Gayas Eapen North Carolina State University Panel Rationale Precarity is a loaded term, but one that often connotes insecurity, risks, and threats to life itself. According to Mullenbach (2013), “precarity” operates as “shorthand for those of us documenting the multiple forms of nightmarish dispossession and injury that our age entails” (p. 298). Precarity, therefore, does not refer to any one experience, but rather a “rubric that brings together women, queers, transgender people, the poor, and the stateless” under a common life experience (Butler, 2009, p. xiii). Increasingly, we have witnessed an uptick in populations uniting under this common experience through the use of internet-connected mobile applications. These apps allow precarious populations to connect with others in real-time, to ascertain information about current risks, and to find a community in nearby spaces. In short, they allow these populations to mediate their precarity. Yet, as internet studies has taught us, online spaces rarely if ever offer seamless and friction-free encounters, even in spaces carved out specifically for marginalized populations (Gray, 2012; Shaw, 2014). In this panel, we take up this perspective to problematize the recent use of mobile apps for mediating experiences of precarity. While we acknowledge that these apps offer opportunities to form networks of resistance, these apps also pose substantial risks to their users and their livelihood.
