Levallois, 20th July 2021

MEDIAMETRIE 126 000 RADIO ILE DE SURVEY Radio Audience in Ile de France: April – June 2021

Mediametrie publishes radio audience results, in metropolitan France over the March 29th 2021 to June 27th 2021 period, measured on a population of 3,889 individuals aged of 13 years and over.

This period is marked by a national lockdown in April and a progressive lifting of restrictions between May and June.

From April 3, travel restrictions are extended to the entire territory, with the maintenance of a curfew from 7 p.m. and generalized teleworking, the closure of day care centers and all schools for 3 weeks, the unification of the calendar of school vacations for all areas, and a week of distance learning for all colleges and high schools. From May 3, a gradual lockdown easing is taking place with a first lifting of travel restrictions and a gradual return to class. From May 19th, businesses and public places reopen with a curfew postponed to 9 p.m. From June 9, restaurants opened in turn with a curfew pushed back to 11 p.m. and a relaxation of teleworking. June 20 marks the lifting of the curfew (see events p.7).

During this period, the pace of French life remained exceptional with reduced mobility and unusual activity conditions. The activity rate, which was low in April with a large proportion of the working population in unusual working conditions, increased as the restrictions were lifted in May and June.

Radio audience measurement

Survey Characteristics

• Interviews conducted between March 29th 2021 to June 27th 2021 with individuals aged 13 and older living in the Ile de France. 4 LADs were recorded: Monday April 5, Thursday May 13 and Friday May 14, and Monday May 24 2021. • The results are based on 3,168 interviews for the Monday-Friday period. • Socio-demographic representativeness of the interviews with equal distribution between the survey day. • The interviews were carried out between 5.30pm and 9.30pm on landline phones (including numbers beginning with ‘09’) and on mobile phones in order to reach as many individuals as possible. • Collection carried out over the last 24 hours (from 5.30pm the day before to 5.30pm on the day of the survey) made spontaneously. The interviewee quotes the names of the radio stations he or she listened to without any suggested answers. The collection thus covers the entire perimeter of radio listening, whatever the station, place, media and mode of listening • Only the cumulative audience can be used to calculate the number of listeners: cumulative audience (as a %) x 101,920 = number of listeners. The same calculation cannot be performed using audience share points.

Events over the period

Over the April-June 2021 survey period, from March 29th 2021 to June 27th 2021, the news was marked by events that were likely to have an impact on radio listening behaviour:

The whole period was marked by the continuing Covid-19 health crisis, with a further lockdown in April. From 3 April , travel restrictions beyond 10 km from home are extended to the whole of France. These restrictions

were accompanied by the closure of all schools and the extension of homeschooling to all children from 6 to 10 April.

The school holiday timetable was unified for all zones from 10 to 25 April. The return to school for all middle schools

and high schools took place remotely from 26 to 30 April. The health measures in place were maintained, with a curfew from 7 pm to 6 am, compulsory working from home at least 4 days a week when activities so allow, and the closure of bars and restaurants, as well as cultural and sporting venues. From 3 May, a progressive lifting of the lockdown was implemented. Travel restrictions were lifted with limited class sizes in higher education and high schools. From 19 May, the curfew was pushed back to 9 pm and a gradual reopening of public buildings (shops, terraces, museums, cinemas and theatres) with limited capacities was put in place. From 9 June, indoor cafés and restaurants and gyms were allowed to reopen. Remote working arrangements can now be relaxed at company level. The curfew was pushed back to 11 pm, before being lifted on 20 June. The vaccination campaign intensified. From 12 April, the vaccine was available to everyone over 55 years old, then extended on 12 May to all willing adults, and, from 15 June, to adolescents aged 12 to 17 years.

On 12 May, the WHO announced that the Indian Delta variant has been detected in 44 countries, including France.

On 27 May, Parliament definitively adopted the establishment of a “health pass” to access gatherings of over 1,000

people.

On 23 April , a man stabbed a police employee to death at a police station in Rambouillet. His crime was classed as a terrorist act. On 2 June , an Orange network outage disrupted emergency calls in the evening. On 11 June , the European Football Championship kicked-off with the opening game between Italy and Turkey (3-0). After the group stage, France qualified for the knockout stages by beating (1-0) on 15 June and drawing with Hungary (1 -1) on 19 June and with (2-2) on 23 June.
