Address changes from rural routes to street numbers or county road numbers were made, along with area code changes. A great many of these corrections were made, but I am sure there are others. If your address changed and we didn’t get it corrected, please send it to me. Also, many singings have changed the dates of their singings or combined them with other singings, so check the listings in the directory of singings section. It has been a year of a lot of changes! A problem has arisen that needs to be addressed. In the fabulous world of technology there still remain some problems connected with these new advances. One such problem is the fact that when you send minutes via e-mail, you do not send a check with it. It is extremely difficult to keep up with who has and has not mailed a check. If you are among this group, please note that I will not include your singing minutes in the book until I have received a hard copy with a check enclosed.

A Comparative Discourse Analysis of Media Texts Pertaining to Fracking in North Dakota’s Bakken Region A dissertation presented to the faculty of the Scripps College of Communication of Ohio University In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree Doctor of Philosophy Brian J. Hough August 2015 © 2015 Brian J. Hough. All Rights Reserved This dissertation titled A Comparative Discourse Analysis of Media Texts Pertaining to Fracking in North Dakota’s Bakken Region by BRIAN J. HOUGH has been approved for the School of Media Arts and Studies and the Scripps College of Communication by Lawrence E. Wood Associate Professor of Media Arts and Studies Scott Titsworth Dean, Scripps College of Communication ii ABSTRACT HOUGH, BRIAN J., Ph.D., August 2015, Mass Communications A Comparative Discourse Analysis of Media Texts Pertaining to Fracking in North Dakota’s Bakken Region Director of Dissertation: Lawrence E. Wood This research broadly investigates mediated discourse and knowledge construction among media outlets commonly identified as “traditional” and “new.” Specifically, this research represents a case study of fracking in the Bakken shale region of North Dakota. Using qualitative, interpretive methods this dissertation considers what knowledge(s) are constructed, upheld, and silenced in mediated representations of fracking in the Bakken. This dissertation draws upon a poststructural definition of discourse, which views knowledge and meaning as constructed realities, rather than Real in an objective sense (Castree, 2001, 2014; Foucault, 2010/1972; Hall, 1997). Although the power and resources required to produce discourse is unequal, taken-for-granted ways of thinking and doing are nevertheless always open to challenge from relatively less powerful sources.

  • (USDA) “Simplifying Meal Service and Monitoring Requirements in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs” Proposed Rule
Dear President Trump and Secretary Perdue, I write in strong opposition to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) “Simplifying Meal Service and Monitoring Requirements in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs” proposed rule. This rule would jeopardize the progress schools have made to provide healthier food to vulnerable children and decrease the overall healthfulness of school meals. Especially in light of COVID-19 and the current state of emergency our country is going through, now more than ever we should be committing ourselves to the health and well-being of our children and supporting, not weakening, science-based nutrition standards. We want our kids to eat healthier foods and have schools reinforce the healthy options we provide our children at home. It’s especially important that children who are facing hunger be able to access fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and continue to learn healthy eating habits at school. The rollback of nutritional standards for school meals threatens the progress we have made to ensure our children receive healthy meals at school. USDA’s own April 2019 study found that thanks to the updated standards instituted by the Obama Administration, the nutritional quality of school meals has significantly increased. This study also shows that school meals have improved children’s diet and health, especially among students coming from food insecure and low- income households. We also fear that this rule change will negatively impact the health of our children, leading to an increased rate of childhood obesity and diabetes. Below you will find the signatures of over 11,100 moms, dads, and concerned community members who back up this message.
