The collection includes records from Reynolds' doctoral studies at the University of Michigan and of his firm Frank Reynolds Architects. Also included are lecture materials from his time as a professor of architectural history, computer graphic design, and urban planning at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Photographs in the collection were collected by Reynolds during his travels throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and South America. Las Vegas, Nevada. ^ Return to Table of Contents Biographical Note Born in Detroit, Michigan on October 3, 1931, Frank Elon Reynolds started his architectural career as a city planner in Phoenix, Arizona. Beginning in the mid-1970s, he worked in Pontiac and West Bloomfield, Michigan as an architect and city planner. In the early 1980s, Reynolds worked in Yanbu Al-Sinaiyah, Saudi Arabia as a city planner while collecting photographs of historic architecture throughout the region. Reynolds moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in the late 1980s, where he worked for the City of Las Vegas as Deputy Director of Community Planning and Development for twenty two years. During this time, Reynolds - Page 3- Guide to the Frank Reynolds Professional Papers also taught architectural history, graphic design, and urban planning at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Architecture for twenty-years. Reynolds also flew commercially and took extensive aerial photographs of Las Vegas, which he used to illustrate his urban planning and design lectures. The collection includes material from Reynolds' professional work from his architectural firm Frank Reynolds Architects, photographic prints and publications produced from his photography company Air Plan, and reports for the City of Las Vegas. Educational material include his studies for his doctoral degree and lecture material his time as a professor of architectural history, graphic design, and urban design at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Visual materials primarily consist of color slides, as well as negatives and photographic prints, that detail his personal travels and studies. Photographs were collected during his travels throughout the United States, Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and South America. The collection also contains material performed throughout Reynolds' professional career, with a focus on urban planning, design, and studies. Locations for Reynolds' urban and architectural design work include West Bloomfield Township, Michigan; Yanbu Industrial City, Saudi Arabia (MYAS); and Las Vegas, Nevada. Publications and photographic prints included pertain to Reynolds' work, studies, and lectures in urban planning and architectural history. Additionally, the collection contains drawings from throughout his architectural career, including redesigns for General Motors offices, as well as conceptual drawings, photographs, and publications for General Motors' 1964 New York World's Fair exhibit. ^ Return to Table of Contents Arrangement Note These records are organized into three series: Series I. Also included are sets of color slides used as instructional material at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). These slides were taken from Reynolds' travels and professional work.
