DAUGHERTY contined from page 1 “They couldn’t get inside as far as I was because of their ball speed. Their ball would never hook from there,” Daugherty added. “As soon as Belmo tried to move in just a little, he missed the headpin. It was easy for me to do, too, but on my good shots, I could get the ball to make the turn. They couldn’t do that.” Daugherty admitted he was nervous in making his second career television appearance. “There was a lot of nerves going on the first game. The three-bagger kinda calmed me down, but leaving that 3-6-9-10 in the first frame was unnerving. I didn’t want to start with an open,” he said after successfully converting the difficult spare. “That’s all I thought about after making the show: not starting with an open and that’s not the spare you want to shoot at in the first frame.” Daugherty said he was thrilled to win his first PBA Tour title because it made him eligible to bowl in the 2013 PBA Tournament of Champions under revised eligibility rules that will only allow PBA Tour champions to enter. He had bowled in the TOC previously under rules that allowed PBA Regional title winners to participate. “I was so disappointed when they changed the TOC criteria,” Daugherty said. “I made a lot of money in that tournament the past two years, but now I’m back.” BOWLERS JOURNAL SCORPION CHAMPIONSHIP South Point Exhibition Hall, Las Vegas Final Standings: 1, Tom Daugherty, Wesley Chapel, Fla., $20,000. 2, Osku Palermaa, Finland, $10,000. 3, Jason Belmonte, Australia, $7,000. 4, Jason Sterner, McDonough, Ga., $5,000.

NATIONAL DEAF BOWLING NEWS by Connie Marchione MACMONAGLE 818 LED DEAF TRAVEL AT CHAPARRAL LANES SAN DIMAS—So. Calif. Deaf Traveling League’s first trip to Chaparral Lanes turned out as sticky approaches with one casualty. One bowler Gorman Low in his first test try, stuck and fell on his knees, hurt his right leg bad that he could not continue. Luckily Jeff Stansell was there and was asked to sub for Low. The league decided to stay and bowl with caution. As cautious result of that day no big scores were made and Leroy MacMonagle led the honor roll of 8 bowlers with the lone 800 of the day. Mac had games of 193-224-191-206 for 818 in this scratch trio traveling league. His opponent Robert Audette followed with 772 from 204- 182-202- 184. Ed Abakunoff had 186-224-216-159for 765 and Francisco Navarro 194-185-200-177 for 758. William Golyer had a (211) 722 beating his opponent Bob Jones’ (212) 717. Two made the roll with their 200, Connie Marchione with 210 and Joe Gonzales with 209. NOTE: Audette’s only 204 in first game broke the league’s infamous 96 games no 200 famine last December 9 at Cal Bowl. Mac’s 818 and Wesley Kay’s sweep of 5 points helped their league leading Orange County win 15 points from 2nd place Audette’s Whittier. The only change in team standings is third place LA County falling to fourth place after losing 7-13 to 5th place Navarro’s Covina and 4th place Golyer’s Anaheim moving up to third when Anaheim beat Jones’ S F Valley 13-7. In spite of the sticky approaches the 53 years old league thanks Chaparral Lanes management for hosting. Next travel date on schedule is January 20 at long time host Keystone Lanes at Noon.

SEATTLE - Following Wednesday’s announcement of sports icon Billie Jean King as the seventh and first woman owner of a Pro- fessional Bowlers Association League team, the PBA unveiled team logos for seven of the eight teams that will be part of the historic professional bowling league when it makes its debut Jan. 19-27 in suburban Detroit.

The seven celebrity owners and their team names are: Jerome Bettis (Motown Muscle); Chris Paul (L.A. X); Terrell Owens (Dallas Strikers); Chris Hardwick (Silver Lake Atom Splitters); Billie Jean King (New York City WTT KingPins); LaMarr Woodley (Pitts- burgh Jack Rabbits), and Kevin Hart (Philadelphia Hitmen). The final PBA League team and its logo will be announced later.

The PBA League will begin competition during the PBA Detroit Winter Swing Jan. 19-27 at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Mich. The first round of the PBA League will be telecast live on ESPN Sunday, Jan. 27 at noon ET. Four additional preliminary rounds will be taped during the Winter Swing to air on ESPN on Sunday Feb. 10, Feb. 17, March 3 and March 24.

“The team owners were intimately involved with naming their teams, distinguishing their home location and designing their logos and team jerseys,” said PBA Commissioner Tom Clark. “When these teams of professional bowlers take to the lanes with their custom Gemini jerseys they will be reflective of their superstar owners.” Clark said each chose home locations that were important to them, such as Hart and Bettis’ hometowns of Philadephia and Detroit (Motown) respectively, and LaMarr Woodley’s more recent affiliation with Pittsburgh where his Steelers play.

“Chris Paul made his final decision on his team’s logo design just a few minutes after leading the Los Angeles Clippers to a win over the Milwaukee Bucks right at the Bradley Center,” Clark said. “Billie Jean King was calling in thoughts while on her way to a Christmas party at the White House, and Chris Hardwick took the logo designs to his massive legion of fans on Twitter for their unique opinions.”

Terrell Owens’ logo includes “TO” for his famous nickname, Hart’s includes red hearts, Bettis has his signature Bus 36 on the BringYour Group Here for a hood of a muscle car and King made sure the pro tennis league she founded ‘WTT’ was represented in her team name. The top four teams after the five preliminary rounds will advance to the PBA League Elias Cup Finals, named after PBA founder New Experience ••• Eddie Elias, which will be contested at Woodland Bowl in Indianapolis on Sunday, March 31 for telecast on Sunday, April 7 at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN. All preliminary qualifying rounds and match play will be live streamed on xtraframe.tv, the PBA’s official video service.
