What? No Awards? NORWALK — Some- body set me straight!! I hear (and read) that local associations, state associations, and youth as- sociations will not be giving awards for the 2013-2014 season. Plus, U.S.B.C. has limited their awards. I called 22 centers on Monday (not one manager was in) and asked if they give trophy’s to their leagues when they sweep. 80% did not give awards, 200 pins, certificates, towels, or any kind of a “thank you for 23750 ALESSANDRO BLVD. My question is — If bowlers in the future won’t 23750 Alessandro Blvd. Unit K, Moreno Valley CA 92553 know how to keep score, no awards will be earned, 951-595-8000 CHAMPS will not be hon- ored — then what IS certi- fied bowling? Our teams were good and tried their best against the other countries’ best deaf and hearing-impaired bowlers. They failed because they are not our country’s best deaf and hearing-impaired bowlers. Bowling originally was turned down as a new sport in 1981 World Games for the Deaf and again SINGLES SINGLES in the 1985 Los Angeles World Games. The officers of International Committee for Sports of the Deaf cited the reasons as not enough countries having deaf bowlers and USA deaf bowlers were semi-pros getting money from leagues and deaf classics. Four years later in the 1989 World Games in , ICSD finally accepted bowling as SPORT SPORT one of the sports but it was put in as one of the winter sports with curling for the 1991 Winter World Games at Calgary. Alberta. I was one of many who yowled that Winter Games sports are played on ice or snow and Bowling is not one of them. At Calgary ICSD realized their mistake and asked the Sofia 1993 World Games Committee if they could possibly include bowling as one of the sports in spite of short time. Sofia Committee SHOT CHALLCHALLENGEENGE SHOT CHALLCHALLENGEENGE happily accepted. Then near end of 1992, the ICSD officers went to Sofia to inspect the sport venues and much to the dismay of the Sofia Committee, ICSD cancelled bowling out of the Games. The reason was not enough lanes. Starts Tuesday, September 24th Starts Tuesday, September 24th In 1992 I directed the Deaf Team USA Tryouts in Fremont and got the bad news. Upon finding out that the center had 12 lanes, so I pleaded to ICSD to keep bowling in and offered my expertise in scheduling the events. ICSD rejected my letter and told USA Deaf Sports Federation to tell me #PXMTBUQNqQFSXFFL #PXMTBUQNqQFSXFFL that they only accept letters or complaints from National Deaf Sports Organizations. To make this story short, World Games for the Deaf with Olympics’ permission, changed its name to Deaflympics in 2001 at . $2000 First Place 2000 First Place DEAF TRAVELING LEAGUE MEETING AT 1 PM SUNDAY AUGUST 11 AT KEYSTONE Four 8 week rounds on four different sport shots Four 8 week rounds on four different sport shots ABTA contined from page 5 32 weeks plus rolloffs 32 weeks plus rolloffs and Have Championships under their belts. The match saw Val start out with a strike, then Freddie matched that and then picked up a spare. Val got a spare and strike that started a string of three strikes to take a slim lead of nine pins after five frames. An open POWERED BY POWERED BY by Val in the seventh frame gave the lead back to Freddie by a mere five pins. It was that way until Freddie came up in the tenth TEAM DIPLOMATZ TEAM DIPLOMATZ frame. He would leave the 6-7-10 split in the tenth, to open, and that would bring up Val. He got a second strike and that was enough as he only needed a mark.
