Jackie at John Novak for details Mark your calendars !! 735-3737 [email protected] or call 519-971-9699 4 Jan/Feb Soundings 2011 5 Summary of AGM November 30, 2010 27 members attended the meeting and the condensed version of the executive and committee reports were as follows: Treasurer : Jan Graybiel Expenditures for the year came in as budgeted with 2 exceptions, however some items are impossible to anticipate with any accuracy. Under repairs and maintenance one expense over budget was to clean up the area on the southeast section of the property. This year due to the generosity of the other boaters on Pike Creek, South Port was able to cover additional dredging costs and increase our dredging reserve. We continue to payoff the mortgage and will be free and clear of this external debt in just over one year . We have started the year in a healthy financial position. Harbourmaster : Wesley Arthur Keeping good water depth is most important and will be the focus again this year. A member questioned the actual dredging depth and it was confirmed they dredged 1/2 way down the channel 6 feet, scooped out some wells to accommodate the 27’ boats which are the most difficult to fit. Thanks were extended to all who assist at Launch and Haulout. Property : Tim Aseltine There were 3 work parties this year. Items carried out in addition to yard work and painting included replacing the furniture, replacing the road sign, trimming trees, purchase of a few new picnic tables, front step replace- ment and recharging the fire extinguishers and testing the lighting system at the request of our local Fire Department.. Racing : Brad Roy The 2010 racing season was very successful even though there were fewer PHRF boats out on Wednesday nights, but the Monday night Jog series saw 27 boats make the rounds. The Gesings hosted the 505 Regatta again this year, and the Women’s Challenge continues to grow. Regatta participation by our membership was very disappointing. 13 South Port boats entered the Invitational, 13 for Harvest Moon and only 9 for Sail for Hospice. These regattas will continue to be a financial burden on the club unless participation increases. There are no major changes planned for 2011. Junior Sailing : Bob Fuller The Sailing School saw another successful season. There was 1 Kidsail session, 3 Adult Sessions with 30 sailors participating in one Learn to Crew and 2 Learn to sail. This was down from 36 in 2009. With our Keelboats the school offers more range of sailing conditions, as the dinghies are not usually sailed in strong winds for safety reasons. The adult program does show some growth and we may offer additional programs. It all depends on demand. There were 4 - CYA Certified youth sessions with 77 sailors instructed to CYA standards.

The BOAT TYPE should also be entered. 4. To simplify the scoring process ALL times are based on TIME of DAY (TOD) This should be taken from either the Race Committee's watch or where applicable the large clock on the committee boat. Message from the Commodore Lynn Baker We have been very lucky this summer to have relatively high water levels... and some financial assistance with dredging from our neighbours down the creek. However inevitably a number of people have run aground or hit bottom in the channel.....probably in areas that have silted in after the dredging was complete. There are a couple of initiatives now underway which could assist with water levels in future years. On September 9, 2008 Lakeshore Council will hear a proposal to form a new Council Committee...called the Lakeshore Marina Advisory Committee. The mandate of the committee will be to advise council such issues as sediment control, ice management, navigation issues, and habitat protection in the five rivers of Lakeshore. ERCA and the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority will both be part of the committee. With the support of Council, it will be easier to access provincial and federal funding for projects to keep all the waterways open and navigable with a goal of promoting tourism (boating, eco, etc) and outdoor recreation.
