HAPPY MOTHERS’ DAY to the mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers in the parish.

We also remember OUR MOTHERS living far from us or departed.

The WOMEN’S EVENING GROUP MOTHERS’ DAY RAFFLE will be drawn today, during the coffee hour after the 9:30AM service. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5.

Thank you to all who made the ANZAC COMMEMORATION SERVICE a success. Sue Dunston kindly brought a large basket of rosemary sprigs from her garden. Music was provided by The Parish Choir, 8AM Singers, Voces Joannis and The Singers. Leanne Winter ably handled the enormous job of refreshments after the service.

EVENSONG this month celebrates the Feast of St John the Evangelist, our patron saint. The music and liturgy is thus of a festal nature. The Office is sung by the Brabyn Singers, who with their director, Bransby Byrne, we welcome to St John’s for the first time. A light meal and sherry are served after the Office. Evensong is a great way to welcome new faces to Anglican liturgy.

The WOMEN’S EVENING GROUP May meeting is tomorrow morning. “The Lady Novelist: A 19th Century Career Option” is Jennifer Hubbard’s talk topic. She says “This is not about Jane Austen.” All are welcome.

From Alicia Tucker, daughter of Nadean and David Tucker, grand-daughter of Jennifer and Graham Tucker:

Hi I am Alicia Tucker, in Year 11 and on the 26th of June I am going on mission trip to YARRABAH, a small Aboriginal community up past Cairns. It will be my second trip and I am really looking forward to re-establishing the relationships that I have already made and creating new ones. We are going up to teach the Aboriginal kids and teens about God and help them with their faith. I will be involved in the teens team; this involves helping the teens with their walk with God and passing the message of His love to them. We have done a lot of training and spending time with God to help prepare for the trip. However, I still need to raise some money to help with the costs of going to Yarrabah and it would be greatly appreciated if you could assist with that.

The church will have a RETIRING OFFERTORY on 12 June to aid Alicia and her parents with travel expenses to Yarrabah. If you know you will be out of town over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend and would like to help fund this mission trip, you may send a contribution to the church office, clearly marked for that purpose.

4 The OP SHOP has a sale on Saturday the 14th. Come for bargains on books, housewares, clothing, decorations and gifts.

WEAR RED next Sunday, if you can, for PENTECOST.

Fête Chairman Pat Gaudry advises the FÊTE DATE HAS BEEN MOVED TO 15 OCTOBER to be the Saturday after school goes back.

You may recall at the 2013 Annual Vestry Meeting WE VOTED FOR AN OPEN CHURCH so people can step in for prayer during the day, but to date, even with a great many advertisements, we have VERY FEW VERGERS. Parishioners are needed to be a quiet presence at the back of the church or in the narthex on weekdays, nodding a greeting to visitors and perhaps answering their questions about Sunday service times. One verger dons a black while others wear street clothes. An open church requires security and the best security is a physical presence. Will you commit to help provide the coverage we voted for? A recurring time slot every week or fortnight is preferred. See Chris Russell at church or e-mail him at [email protected].

Let the church know when you are in the HOSPITAL so you may be VISITED by and added to the PRAYER LIST. You could also be added to the CAN’T GET TO CHURCH LIST and receive the pew bulletin by mail while you are in the hospital, in rehab or at home.
