DAY 1: MONDAY, AUGUST 22 | DEPART USA Depart on overnight independent flights to Munich, Germany (MUC). DAY 2: TUESDAY, AUGUST 23 | ARRIVE IN MUNICH • SALZBURG Arrive in Munich International Airport and meet your English-speaking tour director. Transfer by private motor coach to Salzburg, a splendid city set on the banks of the Salzach River and the birthplace of Mozart. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and freshen up before an opening Mass. Enjoy a welcome dinner and overnight in Salzburg. DAY 3: WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 24 | SALZBURG • HOHENSALZBURG FORTRESS DINNER CONCERT Today, experience Salzburg, beginning with a guided walking tour of the city. Explore Residenzplatz, the center square of Salzburg, known for the dynamic sculpture of the Residenzbrunnen, the largest Baroque fountain north of the Alps. Learn the rich history of the Salzburg Cathedral dating back to 1614. Lastly, visit St. Peter’s Abbey, a Benedictine Monastery, with the cemetery portrayed in the film “The Sound of Music” and where most of Mozart’s religious works were premiered. Celebrate Mass within the Abbey. Spend the afternoon leisurely exploring Salzburg. Come back together for a special dinner concert atop the Hohensalzburg Fortress, with a bird’s-eye view of the city. Return to the hotel and overnight in Salzburg. DAY 4: THURSDAY, AUGUST 25 | SHRINE OF OUR LADY OF MARIA PLAIN • SEEFELD After breakfast, check out of the hotel and transfer to the Shrine of Our Lady of Maria Plain, home to a miraculous image of Virgin Mary located above the altar where St. John Paul II prayed. Celebrate Mass and explore the Shrine, along with a brief tour. Afterwards, enjoy a delicious coffee and treat at the sanctuary’s café, pleasantly located in the footsteps of Plainberg, overlooking the city of Salzburg. Then, depart for Hofbrau Kaltenhausen, Salzburg’s oldest brewery since 1475. Experience a private guided tour where you will learn about the brewery and the brewing process. A high point for many will be a visit to the brewery’s tasting cellar where you will be able to try their beer specialties. Group lunch at the brewery prior to transferring to Seefeld. Upon arrival, check into the hotel with time to relax and freshen up before a group dinner. Overnight in Seefeld. DAY 5: FRIDAY, AUGUST 26 | SEEFELD • INNSBRUCK • OUR LADY OF ABSAM This morning, enjoy morning prayer at St. Oswald Church, one of the most famous pilgrimage sites in Tyrol, because of the Seefeld Eucharistic Miracle. Afterwards, hear the story of the ‘Miracle of the Host’. See the hole in the ground where the knight sank to his knees and see his handprints which are still visible on the original stone altar. Then, depart to St. Michael the Archangel and venerate the Shrine of Our Lady of Absam. Meet the local pastor and receive an overview of the Miraculous image of Our Lady. Celebrate Mass prior to transferring to Innsbruck. Enjoy time at leisure and lunch on own. Then, either return to the hotel for time relaxing at the spa or stay in Innsbruck and enjoy a guided tour of the old city, the capital of Tyrol Province. Experience the culture and witness the top local attractions including the spectacular Imperial Church with the Emperor’s Tomb, famous Golden Roof, Innsbruck Cathedral, and the charming architecture of Old Town. Return to Seefeld for dinner on your own and overnight. DAY 6: SATURDAY, AUGUST 27 | OBERAMMERGAU • PASSION PLAY Breakfast at the hotel before departing for Oberammergau. Along the way, you’ll have a chance to admire Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany, home to three glaciers, and the highest ski resort in the country. Celebrate Mass upon arrival in Oberammergau. Lunch will be provided in the village. Attend the 1st Act of the world-famous Oberammergau Passion Play. The history of the Passion Play goes back to the year 1634. The quaint alpine village of Oberammergau was threatened by the deadly and contagious disease known as the Black Plague that scourged Europe, killing two-thirds of the population of Germany. The people of Oberammergau vowed that if the village could be spared, a re-enactment of the life and suffering of Christ would be performed. The village was miraculously saved from the ravages of the Black Death. Since that date, the play has been performed every ten years. During intermission, have a meal at a local restaurant and enjoy free time for souvenir shopping. Afterward, attend the 2nd Act of the Passion Play. Overnight in the Oberammergau vicinity. DAY 7: SUNDAY, AUGUST 28 | OBERAMMERGAU • WIES • NEUSCHWANSTEIN CASTLE • AUGSBURG After breakfast, transfer amidst green meadows and snowcapped mountains to visit and celebrate Mass at the magnificently decorated “Wiekirche” (Church of the Scourged Savior) perched atop a small rise in a meadow at the foot of the Alps. Learn the history of this undisputed highlight of Bavarian rococo architecture. Enjoy a group lunch, with the opportunity to taste the regional specialties. Then, visit Neuschwanstein Castle, the most famous of three royal palaces built for Louis II of Bavaria. The castle is the embodiment of 19th century romanticism. In a fantastical imitation of a medieval castle, Neuschwanstein is spectacularly sited on a high point over the Pollat River gorge. Continue to Augsburg and check into the hotel. Enjoy an evening of leisure to explore the city and have dinner on your own. Overnight in Augsburg. DAY 8: MONDAY, AUGUST 29 | MUNICH Begin the day by celebrating Mass at Frauenkirch, Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Munich, followed by a guided tour of the city. Visit Marienplatz, Munich’s central square with its historic Glockenspiel, and the twin-towered Frauenkirche. See the Town Hall with the magnificent boulevard created by King Ludwig I in the middle of the 19th century, as well as Residenz (exterior view), a palace of the kings of Bavaria. The remainder of the afternoon will be at leisure for last minute shopping. Farewell dinner at a famous local restaurant known for its exclusive hospitality and exquisite traditional German cuisine.
