(album) Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? is the soundtrack to the game show of the same name that ran from 1991 to 1995. Rockapella, the house band on the show throughout its entire run, performed six of the ten songs on the album. Contents. Development Track listing Personnel References. Development. Rockapella had been hired as the game show's house band when the show's producer saw the group on the special Spike Lee & Company: Do It a Cappella and felt their sound could appeal to a young audience. The group was surprised by their success, given the show's target audience of children, in contrast to their previous target market of adults in their 20s-40s. Rockapella toured prior to releasing the album. Following the premiere of the game show, some of the songs in the album are related to geography, such as "Capital", which lists the state capitals of the United States. However, other songs have no geographic basis, and many include witty humor aimed to adults. Rockapella member Barry Carl said of the lyrics: "We don't wish to talk down to teens - they're more sophisticated." [1] The album features multiple genres, including ska ("Beautiful Place"), salsa ("Amazing World"), rock ("Feeling Fine"), and Celtic pop ("The Violin"). Also available on the CoCo 3 (Radio Shack), as a pair of diskettes booting OS9 level II. However it looks like it was a quick port from a 4-color TV mode on another computer such as CGA PC, because it's almost the worst that could be done on a CoCo 3 without being compatible with the CoCo 2. The CoCo 3 is more like a low-res EGA (320x200 in 16 colours, custom palette from 64 colours). Mr Vampire 2019-02-17 0 point Commodore 64 version. Great game from the 80's. I was a kid when this game was hot. It was popular because it could make it's way into schools. It was extremely unique. It was the first video game I remembered that made my jaw drop in amazement. Teachers loved the educational aspect, it was clean, and funny too. Very clever game. I learned geography and how to use an encyclopedia with this game. The TV show came after a few Carmen games were released, but continue to re-release them when the show was on the air. jim 2014-03-15 2 points DOS version. paperbrain 2012-07-20 0 point DOS version. I've done some research, and discovered that there were even more versions of this than I thought. There were three, not two, VGA version(Normal, Enhanced, and Deluxe) a Super Nintendo version, a Commodore 64 version, and an Apple II version in addition to all the versions listed above(They did make a Macintosh and Amiga version too, like I thought.) Dang this game was popular. paperbrain 2012-07-18 0 point DOS version. I just remembered that the NES game is a port of "Where In Time Is Carmen San-Diego?" not "Where in The World. " I've had so many of these games(everything but the Macintosh and Amiga Versions), and have a hard time keeping them apart. To show you how much of a geek I am, they were all legally purchased by me in their original boxes(Some of them used.) paperbrain 2012-05-31 0 point DOS version. Dang, this has to be one of the most remade games out there. Not only was there this CGA Version, but there were also two VGA versions, a SVGA CD ROM version, and an NES port. I think there may have been Macintosh and Amiga versions as well. I guess that's what happens when you base a popular TV show on a video game. Write a comment. (Educational) Undoubtedly the most successful edutainment franchises, the Where in [xxx] is Carmen Sandiego? is Brøderbund 's flagship series that has spawned numerous sequels, TV shows, and even board games. Premiered in 1985 with Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? , subsequent releases have sold millions of copies collectively worldwide. But until multimedia CD-ROM versions of the game appeared in 1995, the individual Carmen Sandiego titles were not all blockbusters. The premise behind every Carmen Sandiego game is identical: starting out as a rookie detective, your job is to track down a gang of thieves who are stealing the world's (or the galaxy's/USA's/Europe's/history's as the case may be) most precious treasures. After each assignment briefing, you are given a deadline to capture the thief. Then it's off to the travel screen, where you pick the next destination to track the thief. At each location, you must interpret various clues from a number of sources (informants, etc.) to figure out the thief's next stop, as well as his/her identity. Your mission is a success when you track the thief to the right final hideout (plus time period, if you are playing Where in Time version) with the arrest warrant issued for the correct suspect before the deadline. Missions are progressively more difficult as you solve cases and win promotions. Every Carmen Sandiego game contains hundreds of clues, attractive graphics and cartoons, and fun gameplay that will captivate kids and adults alike. Between the original 1985/86 CGA versions and after 1995 (where CD-ROM era began), Carmen Sandiego games can be categorized into 2 groups, each based on the underlying engine: the first group comprises "VGA enhanced versions" releases between 1989 and 1992. In this group, in the order of release, belong Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?, Where in Europe is Carmen Sandiego?, Where in America's Past is Carmen Sandiego?, Where in The World is Carmen Sandiego? (Enhanced), and Where in The USA is Carmen Sandiego? (Enhanced). The second group are games released between 1992 and 1994 that are based on the improved game engine that offers high-res VGA graphics, thousands of clues (as opposed to hundreds), and a more polished interface. These include Where in The World is Carmen Sandiego? Deluxe Edition, Where in Space is Carmen Sandiego?, and Where in The USA is Carmen Sandiego? Deluxe Edition. Of all these games, Where in Europe is Carmen Sandiego? and Where in The USA is Carmen Sandiego? Deluxe Edition are the hardest to find. All 8 aforementioned releases are now available for download from this site, as a tribute to one of the best edutainment series ever made.
