In harmony with His Word and blessed with the company of His 'true devotees', they appear radiant, both physically and spirit ually; in contrast, they, afflicted with ego, immersed in the material world and oblivious to the real worth of this companionship, appear abandoned and alone on this path to spiritual glory. They, forever attached to His Word, remain alert, whilst others, deserted and forsaken on this path, soon fall victim to the designs of the five cardinal urges or instincts and suffer consequently. Nanak eagerly seeks to follow the footsteps of His 'true devotees', eternally consonant with His Word, and whom the Gracious Lord has adorned with treasured virtues. Thus attuned to Divine Will, Order and Word, one enjoys release from the cycle of 'birth and death.
