Liberty Bitcoin Youth Foiling World Cup Liberty Bitcoin Youth Foiling World Cup Gaeta - Italy 24th February – 12th March 2021 Liberty Bitcoin Youth Foiling World Cup 69F Team, Yacht Club Gaeta, Italian Sailing Federation (FIV), Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC), proudly invites your Yacht Club and your Country to participate in the inaugural event of the Liberty Bitcoin Youth Foiling World Cup in Gaeta - Italy from 24 February to 12 March 2021. We are inviting mixed/female teams of 3 or 4 people, age 18-25 from across the world to participate. With the latest generation fast foiling monohull boats, the Persico 69F, an innovative race format, jury on the water, professional content production and social media sharing, we believe key ingredients are in place to create a globally leading arena for World's best Youth Foiling sailors. The event will take place over almost three weeks. The first week will feature training sessions. The two following weeks will feature 8 days of racing. The top 6 teams will qualify for the finals. The finals will consist of fleet races, scheduled to be completed over two days. The team entry cost is 10.500 Euro which includes all racing over the period and training sessions onboard the Persico 69F ahead of the events. With strong support from the 69F shore team all boats will continuously be maintained and ready to sail. We expect most of the teams to arrive early February in Gaeta. With so many sailing events being cancelled, including the Youth America's Cup, we aim to make this a unique event where youth sailors from all over the world come together, to share and learn from each other and develop long lasting friendships. This event will be run with the strictest safety measures for the safeguard of all participants. Mixed/female youth teams with 3 or 4 sailors We invite sailors born on or between 1 January 1996 and 31 December 2003 Teams will be mixed/female, either 3 or 4 sailors The boat is recommended to race with 3 people There is no minimum or maximum weight restrictions for the crew Teams should represent a Yacht Club and or clearly be identified with one Country The registration process will close on the 25th of December Max 18 team slots will be allocated on a first come first serve basis There will be minimum 12 teams b Persico 69F The Persico 69F is an amazing new foiling boat design for 3-4 crew. It is is made of pre-preg carbon fiber. All boat parts, including sails are fitted with RFID tags to verify weight & quality and guarantee one design over time. • The boat can foil from 7-8 knots of wind speed. It is capable of 18-20 knots boat speed upwind and up to 35 knots downwind. • 6 Persico 69F boats will be shared during the event. • 69F organization will provide a shore team with spare boat and spare parts. Boats will continuously be professionally maintained throughout the event; onshore and offshore. The Persico 69F and the new race concept has been proven with a fleet of 6 boats during 7 major regatta events in Italy in July - October 2020. 32 youth teams from Switzerland, Italy, Netherlands, Denmark and Hong Kong are among the teams that have trained and raced the Persico 69F at some of these events. Feedback from the Youth teams is strong and consistent; The Persico 69F is fast, fun, safe and of very high build quality. There has not been any personal injuries during Persico 69F training and racing. However, helmets and life jackets are mandatory, while wetsuits and impact gear are recommended. The 69F Team will cover this event with dedicated media professionals. Every race day will be captured using drones and photography, from which edited material such as videos, interviews and pictures will be shared with specialist press, sport bodies and clubs, which have been starved of exciting and dynamic content. Regular updates and summaries will be fed through dedicated channels to provide attractive reach to both teams and their supporting sponsors. Participants will be encouraged to use their own network and preferred platforms to enhance and support the event’s efforts. We aim to communicate the positive impact of a youth driven event, combined with strong societal and environmental messages. https://69fsailing.com/ https://www.facebook.com/69Fsailing/ https://www.instagram.com/69fsailing/?igshid=1ce7icyr1ykv1 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNDWPr2QXWNVhCIqRHy4-ZA Unique sponsorship branding opportunities for your team The Liberty Bitcoin Youth Foiling World Cup will give large visibility for sponsors. It will be covered by a team of dedicated professionals who will master the content, production, editing and sharing of videos and photos throughout the event. Production will be distributed free of charge into various social media channels and made available to mainstream media in countries represented. The Persico 69F spectacular speed, dynamic visual foiling and team action will increase the appeal to regular and social media. Cancellation of major sporting events combined with YFWC taking place during a lull in America’s Cup racing is expected to further increase the media attractiveness. Teams may want to bring their own sails and will, for selected training days and finals (if qualified), be allowed significant coverage for sponsors on mainsail, jib and kite. Teams can choose to buy their own 69F sails for participation in this event and future Persico 69F events. Additional training in Gaeta Our aim is to create an event where all sailors and coaches are sharing their learnings and supporting other teams in any way possible. We have included training slots for all teams in the entry fee. During these sessions we will try our very best to ensure that all teams get some time supported by 69F coaches or experienced 69F sailors. Some teams may choose to come to Gaeta earlier to get more training and to get a feel for local sailing conditions. A fleet of 6 Persico 69F boats will be available for training from 15th of January in Gaeta for any teams who would like to come in early. The daily rental price for boat only is 1.000 Euro plus VAT. The Chartering Party undertakes to use the boat only if assisted during navigation by a RIB. Charter fee for one Persico 69F per day incl. RIB (fuel included) and a RIB driver (69F expert) is 1.400 Euro plus VAT. The Chartering Party will pay the sum of 1.500 Euro as a security (insurance deductible) to the OA, which will be returned at the end of the rental, in the absence of damage to the boat/sails/accessories. Covid and risk mitigations All Teams will be fully responsible to comply with the Covid-19 regulations in force during the training and racing periods in their home country, in the hosting venue and in the travelling. 69F team and YCG also enforces strict measures; the Youth Foiling World Cup will be organized in full compliance with the national, regional Governments and of FIV strict Covid -19 measures. This copy has been supplied on the understanding that it is copyright material and that no quotation from the thesis may be published without proper acknowledgement. Acknowledgements I would like to express my thanks for the help of so many different people, without which there would simply have been no thesis. The funding of the AHRC (formerly AHRB) and the support of the School of History at the University of Leeds made this research possible in the first place. I am grateful too for the general support, and advice on reading and sources, provided by Dr. A. J. Metcalfe, Dr. P. Skinner, Professor E. Van Houts, and Donald Matthew. Thanks also to Professor J-M. Martin, of the Ecole Francoise de Rome, for his continual eagerness to offer guidance and to discuss the subject. A particularly large thanks to Mr. I. S. Moxon, of the School of History at the University of Leeds, for innumerable afternoons spent pouring over troublesome Latin, for reading drafts, and for just chatting! Last but not least, I am hugely indebted to the support, understanding and endless efforts of my supervisor Professor G. A. Loud. His knowledge and energy for the subject has been infectious, and his generosity in offering me numerous personal translations of key narrative and documentary sources (many of which are used within) allowed this research to take shape and will never be forgotten.
