MP Yousef Al-Fadhalah said on his Twitter account that he will file to grill the prime minister on March 5 if the government allows Health Minister Jamal Al-Harbi to quit, while leaving “suspected corrupt senior bureaucrats” in their positions. The lawmaker said that he had learned that Harbi offered his resignation on Monday during the Cabinet meeting after his demand to sack the undersecretary and a number of senior officials was not accepted by the Cabinet. The controversy over the health minister has been growing even before the November election, after reports that the cost of sending Kuwaitis for treatment abroad skyrocketed to new highs. Some MPs put it at as high as KD 750 million last year. Opposition MPs have alleged that a majority of those sent for treatment abroad were in fact not patients but sent on what they described as “medical tourism or politi- cal medication”, under which thousands of fake patients were sent abroad to appease certain MPs.

  • China Targets More Short Track Golds at Vancouver Olympics 10:53, January 27, 2008
China targets more short track golds at Vancouver Olympics 10:53, January 27, 2008 China would endeavor to claim more short-track golds at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, said the 40-year-old Li Yan, head coach of the short-track speed skating national team. Li made the remarks at the 11th National Winter Games held here from Jan. 18 to 28. China did not end its winter Olympic gold draught until the Salt Lake City Games in 2002 when Yang Yang (A) took women's 500 meters and 1,000 meters short track titles. Wang Meng won the women's 500 meters at the Turin Olympics and grew up to a leading figure in China's short track. Despite of the fact that China had advantages in women's short-distance events, Li pinned the medal hopes in more events. "Besides the women's 500 meters, we strive to make breakthroughs in the 1,000 meters and even 1,500 meters events," said Li. But Li kept a clear mind at China's short-track level. "There is a substantial gap between China and South Korea at the skills, vision and training. Except the short distance and relay events that China has certain advantages, the long distance events are dominated by the South Koreans," Li told Xinhua. Li believed the gap did not only exist in the national team force, but also in the reserve force. "We are lack of the reserve force. I cannot see the hopeful young players for the national team." "Besides South Korea, Chinese skaters still meet great challenge from Canada and the United States," said Li.

  • The Principles the Gospel Applied to Sports, Experienced Through Sports and Spoken in the Language of Sports
The Principles The gospel applied to sports, experienced through sports and spoken in the language of sports AUDIENCE OF ONE 01 Whom or What Do I Worship? INSIDE GAME 02 What Motivates Me? HOLY SWEAT/WHOLLY SURRENDER 03 How Do I Grow? HURTIN’ FOR CERTAIN 04 How Do I Deal With Suffering? VICTORY BEYOND COMPETITION 05 How do I live for God’s kingdom instead of my kingdom? A Christian involved in sports often has difficulty knowing how his or her relationship with Christ relates to sports. The principles you are about to look at will guide you in answering these questions and many more you may have. Each of the five principles takes a story from the Bible and applies the biblical principle from that story to sports and competition. They cover topics like idolatry, motivation, identity, growth, pain and perspective. As you study these principles and begin to live them out, your life can literally be transformed. Romans 12:1, 2 tells us that we should not try to conform to the pattern of the world, but instead be transformed by God’s renewing truth. The beautiful thing about these principles is that they are God’s principles from His Word, and they don’t just apply to sports.
