It has created “Ningguo Miracle” since 1990s. Its general economic capacity has been ranked #1 (the first) among all the counties or cities in Anhui Province since 2000. In order to analyze the influencing factors of competitive advantages of Ningguo City and explain “Ningguo Miracle”, this article have evaluated, analyzed and classified the general economic competitiveness of 61 counties (cities) in Anhui Province in 2004, by 14 indexes of evaluation index system. The result showed that compared with other counties (cities) in Anhui Province, Ningguo City has more advantages in competition. The competitive advantage of Ningguo City is due to the productivities, the effect of the second industry and industry, and the investment of fixed assets. Then the influencing factors of Ningguo’s competitiveness in terms of productivity were analyzed with authoritative data since 1990 and a log linear regression model was established by stepwise regression method. The results demonstrated that the key influencing factor of Ningguo City’s competitive advantage was the change of industry structure, especially the change of manufacture structure.

China Abstract This study examines the homogenized development of three closely related cities in Guangxi Province of China. The cities are Beihai, Qinzhou, and Fang Chenggang (otherwise called Beiqinfang ), as an important part of Beibu Gulf urban agglomerations in China. The paper explored the current situation of Beiqinfang urban industries through quantitative research methods, applied correlation degree measurement index to conduct effective measurement on the isomorphism of Beiqinfang urban industrial development, in order to understand the current situation of industrial isomorphism among those areas, establish industrial dislocation development among Beiqinfang cities, and how to achieve sustainable development. We recommend that the three cities should actively avoid the mutual competition among them, so as to achieve effective resource allocation and prevent industrial homogenization. • Predicting Suitable Habitat of the Chinese Monal (Lophophorus Lhuysii) Using Ecological Niche Modeling in the Qionglai Mountains, China
View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by Crossref Predicting suitable habitat of the Chinese monal (Lophophorus lhuysii) using ecological niche modeling in the Qionglai Mountains, China Bin Wang1,*, Yu Xu2,3,* and Jianghong Ran1 1 Sichuan University, Key Laboratory of Bio-Resources and Eco-Environment of Ministry Education, College of Life Sciences, Chengdu, China 2 Guizhou Normal University, College of Life Sciences, Guiyang, China 3 Pingdingshan University, School of Resources and Environmental Sciences, Pingdingshan, China * These authors contributed equally to this work. ABSTRACT Understanding the distribution and the extent of suitable habitats is crucial for wildlife conservation and management. Knowledge is limited regarding the natural habitats of the Chinese monal (Lophophorus lhuysii), which is a vulnerable Galliform species endemic to the high-montane areas of southwest China and a good candidate for being an umbrella species in the Qionglai Mountains. Using ecological niche modeling, we predicted current potential suitable habitats for the Chinese monal in the Qionglai Mountains with 64 presence points collected between 2005 and 2015. Suitable habitats of the Chinese monal were associated with about 31 mm precipitation of the driest quarter, about 15 ◦C of maximum temperature of the warmest month, and far from the nearest human residential locations (>5,000 m). The predicted suitable habitats of the Chinese monal covered an area of 2,490 km2, approximately 9.48% of the Qionglai Mountains, and was highly fragmented. 54.78% of the suitable habitats were under the protection of existing nature reserves and two conservation gaps were found.

  • Chinese Oral History Collections at Columbia: Toward Better Access1
Journal of East Asian Libraries, No. 140, Oct. 2006 CHINESE ORAL HISTORY COLLECTIONS AT COLUMBIA: TOWARD BETTER ACCESS1 Chengzhi Wang Columbia University Introduction Source materials keep their scholarly value unabated with the passage of time. This is true of the Chinese Oral History collections at Columbia. Most of the collections were created, acquired in association with the Chinese Oral History Project undertaken about three decades ago, but they are still frequently inquired about and consulted by students and scholars researching modern China. All the original Chinese oral history collections are kept at the Rare Book and Manuscript Library (RBML) at Columbia. Some difficulties in accessing the collections from afar and at Columbia have been reported by new users. Among other problems, new users assume that records for these Chinese-language oral histories have been completely entered into CLIO (Columbia Libraries Information Online), Columbia’s online catalog, and converted to LC pinyin system, and so are searchable in CLIO, but in fact this is not true. Many authors and titles of the oral histories, if known, are not directly searchable. Some general titles of oral history projects are searchable, and the search results offer substantial useful information in great detail. Yet, few users would search CLIO using the correct general titles, and some specific personal papers and archives cannot be located this way.2 Moreover, it seems the Journal of East Asian Libraries and other library professional periodicals have not carried any articles focusing on this important oral history collection.3 The Chinese Oral History project at Columbia officially started in 1958 and ended in 1980.
