In front of an already quite significant crowd, the first start of the season was pretty chaotic to say the least. Poleman Will Stevens #28 () made it cleanly into the first bend in the lead, but in the thick of the main field several cars were involved in a coming together, forcing the safety car to be called out immediately. Javier Tarancon #1 (Tech 1 Racing), #6 (Koiranen Motorsport), Joni Wiman #7 (Koiranen Motorsport), Timmy Hansen #9 (Interwetten.com Junior Team), #20 Karl Oscar Liiv (MP Motorsport), #31 Pieter Schothorst (R-Ace Grand Prix) and #36 (KTR) all found themselves out of the race.

10:01:32 The safety car stayed out for three laps. At the restart, Will Stevens was the driver out front ahead of , Carlos Sainz Jr., Alex Riberas and Mathieu Jaminet #33 (). In the space of a few laps, these five drivers pulled clear of the rest of the field.

10:02:02 #5 / ITW Carlos Sainz Jr (ESP) – Koiranen Motorsport (in Spanish) It is one of the most important victories in my career, because we had a lot of problems yesterday since we could only do 8 laps before qualifying. We had also small issues in the official session. I want to thank my team because electronic problems can always happen, and they made me a very good car for the race, and I could achieve this good result.

10:02:31 At the end of action-packed race, Carlos Sainz Jr. shares the first podium of this season with Robin Frijns and Alex Riberas, the spaniard took his first race victory in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 here at Motorland Aragón, on the back of a solid performance.

10 :02 :50 Feature « My Career » : Carlos Sainz Junior

This young driver is already the man to beat : winner of Macao Formula BMW Grand Prix last season, and always in the top 5 during winter testing… In the Formula Renault 2 .0 starting list, his name stands out immediately : Carlos Sainz… Of course not the double world rally champion, and Dakar winner… But his son… Stepping up to Formula Renault with a lot of ambition…

10 :03 :11 ITV Carlos Sainz Junior (in spanish) It is the best place, here in Motorland to start the season : it’s my home race and we already tested here during the winter, so I come there with a lot of skills, and trying to do my best to start the season, even if we might have a lot of surprises but I’m very motivated… I’m the youngest driver in the field, but I already have a good experience from last season… I know that being Carlos Sainz Junior makes me also as a target for the others, but I want to fight for the title at the end of the season…

10 :03 :49 Around Carlos Junior - let’s call him, like everybody in the paddock : Carlito - two men have always been important since the start of his career : his manager, and his father. Constantly helping the young gun to grow up step by step as a man and as a driver.

10 :04 :09 ITV Carlos Sainz Senior (in spanish) I think that when you look at the career of a racing driver, you can define steps that you reach one after the other and help you to progress… In his case, since he is a very young driver, he is also constructing himself as a human being and improving as a driver at the same time… See him last year at 15 and today at 16, he doesn’t look the same at all. He grew up as a kid and as a driver... So, the most important is to improve himself and learn his job, but most of all as we said, that he becomes also a man with strong human qualities.

10 :04 :49 For both Carlos Junior & senior, the family business is also a sentimental story, between father and son and between men and motorsport… Carlos has already achieved many great things but Carlito is ready to make his dreams come true.

10 :05 :02 ITV Carlos Sainz He knows that it is very difficult, he knows that it is not a formailty, but somewhere in his mind he dreams of going into Formula 1… He knows that it is only for a few, but also that it remains important to keep his dreams alive and have difficult ambitions to strive for. And who knows, some day it could happen… But he also knows that it will only come after a lot of work and continuous effort over the years, day after day, after day…

10 :05 :35 Carlito won Formula 2.0 Race 1 on Saturday afternoon, let’s see how it happened during the second one…

10:08:16 Daniil Move was holding firm under the constant attacks from Alexander Rossi, who was himself coming under threat from Robert Wickens. Albert Costa, having shaken off Kevin Korjus, took advantage to regain contact with the lead trio.

The battle between these four, with lying in wait ready to pounce, went on for several laps. Meanwhile, the crowd were holding their breath in suspense and on lap 11 Alexander Rossi finally found a way through at the end of the pit straight. This put the American out front, with twenty minutes of the race to run, ahead of Daniil Move, Robert Wickens and Albert Costa.

10 :14 :02 Feature : Formula 1 ABC : Setting up a F1 car

On each and every World Series by Renault weekend, one of the highlights on track for the spectators is the Formula 1 Exhibition, and this year, the Lotus Renault Grand Prix team makes an outstanding contribution to the show… Let’s discover with them « Formula 1 ABC ». Chapter one : setting up the car…

10 :14 :24 ITV Gavin Anderson (in English) We have an adjustable front wing, we can adjust the angle of the flap on the wing, which affects the down- force on the front of the car, this is something that can only be adjusted by the mechanics in the garage or in the pit stops during the race. So the engineers will set up the car for the start of the event, and then by communicating and feedback with the driver they are able to adjust the balance of the car and they can tune the wing during the race for the tyres and the conditions, wet or dry, or the balance of the car as the fuel load reduces during the race.

The rear wing is very important for the race this year, because it is also adjustable but only into two positions. That’s called a drag reduction system and it’s to aid overtaking, so, during the race, when a driver is following another car closely onto the straight, he can push a button on his steering wheel which adjust the angle on the rear wing and reduces the down-force and the drag of the car and aids in overtaking the car in front…

10 :15 :24 This is the technical aspect of things but on a practical point of view, the driver is the key man… Fayruz Fauzi gives us the opportunity to understand the job a little better:

Renault Sport Technologies Tél. : +33 (0)1 76 82 82 00 Z.A. Courtaboeuf Fax. : 33 (0)1 76 82 83 75 14, avenue des Tropiques Internet : www.renault- 91 978 Courtaboeuf Cedex - France sport.com

10 :15:37 ITV Gavin Anderson (in English) This is the steering wheel that the driver uses, it has many fonctions to allow him to adjust the car and communicate… On of the most important buttons is the radio, which enables him to communicate with his engineer during the race or the practice. And they can talk to each other and discuss the balance of the car and the tyres. En they can recomand settings that he can make on the steering wheel which affects the balance of the car and its behavior during the race, they can recomand to change the fuel consumption of the engine to aid the amount of fuel, he can change the setting down here by switching to maps that are loaded into the car before the race and enable different engine settings…

10 :16:19 For the driver, it is more and more things to do while driving at 300 Km/h, but following Fairuz Fauzi the third driver of Lotus Renault GP, coming out from Formula 3.5 last season, you get used to it easily…

10 :16 :27 ITV Fairuz Fauzy (in English) When you go to the office, you know what you’ll been dealing with, you know, for us as a driver, it is the same… The cockpit is our office and you know how to operate, you talk with your engineer, set up the car, in the same time, you need to concentrate 110 %, that why I think as driver you need to have very strong reactions and also consistancy is very important.

10 :16 :51 From Formula Renault 3.5 in 2010 to the seat of the Lotus Renault GP Formula 1 car, Fairuz Fauzi already did a big step up. As a lot of other young drivers did before him.

10 :17 :15 Feature : « A world of Show » : 2011 Novelties in WSR

The World Series by Renault started its seventh season this week-end in Motorland. With another huge crowd, more than 120 drivers on track and very spectacular races, it remains one of the most successfull racing formulas in the last decade. And 2011 will renew this status.

10 :17:34 ITV Patrice Ratti - Renault-Sport (in French)

This season we have an outstanding starting list, with a 40 driver field who will fight for the title in Formula Renault 2.0, coming from all over the world. And in Formula Renault 3.5, which is the main category, two of our drivers already have contacts in Formula 1, and Jean-Eric Vergne, we have two British F3 champions, two italian F3 champions, two Formula Renault 2.0, so the level will be very high… Plus, we have created the Eurocup Clio, taken the best 10 drivers out of 4 national championships, there will be a lot of battles during the races, since we offer the champion a full season in Megane Trophy. SO we really have, I think a very good level. May I remind you that in the Formula 1 field today, 50 % of the drivers come out of Renault Formulas, who jumped directly from the 3.5 to Formula 1 and being World Champion after two seasons… And also , … So we are very happy with the success of the World Series by Renault…

10 :18:37 So, professional skills at a high level, but also an incredible atmosphere in the paddock offering outstanding diversity during the race week-end. 10 :18:47 ITV Patrice Ratti - Head of Renault-Sport (in French)

Of course there is a very friendly atmosphere, but at the same time we maintain a specific level of expertise. We have marshalls and technical observers all dedicated to control the sport during the race weekends. They are very strict and that level of exigency means that our Formulas are considered as a reference point, attracting a lot of drivers, and producing a very good show for the spectators. This is all a complete and strong package, and the nice atmosphere is the icing on the cake.

10 :19:17 That all makes the world series an appointement for the whole family mixing motorsport, exhibitions, discovery in the paddock and kids activities.

10 :19:27 ITV Patrice Ratti - Head of Renault-Sport (in French)

We created the World Series for the drivers and for the audience. It is the one and only occasion for people to come on a track for free, see a good show and get close to the cars and drivers. It is the only place where you can get as close to a Formula 1 car, see and hear it running around the track. One can also go in the paddock or in the pit lane, which is very rare nowadays in F1, for example. It is really a sport and a spectacle designed for the fans, and that we consider also as an outstanding marketing tool - to make people discover the Renault Range, and invite our clients and sales- force. It is really a big fest for all the Renault family.
