KAMRUL HAQUE , SALEH AHAMMAD KHAN, SARDER NASIR UDDIN AND SHAYLA SHARMIN SHETU Department of Botany, Jahangirnagar University, Savar, Dhaka 1342, Bangladesh Keywords: Checklist; Angiosperms; Rajkandi Reserve Forest; Moulvibazar. Abstract This study was carried out to provide the baseline data on the composition and distribution of the angiosperms and to assess their current status in Rajkandi Reserve Forest of Moulvibazar, Bangladesh. The study reports a total of 549 angiosperm species belonging to 123 families, 98 (79.67%) of which consisting of 418 species under 316 genera belong to Magnoliopsida (dicotyledons), and the remaining 25 (20.33%) comprising 132 species of 96 genera to Liliopsida (monocotyledons). Rubiaceae with 30 species is recognized as the largest family in Magnoliopsida followed by Euphorbiaceae with 24 and Fabaceae with 22 species; whereas, in Lilliopsida Poaceae with 32 species is found to be the largest family followed by Cyperaceae and Araceae with 17 and 15 species, respectively. Ficus is found to be the largest genus with 12 species followed by Ipomoea, Cyperus and Dioscorea with five species each. Rajkandi Reserve Forest is dominated by the herbs (284 species) followed by trees (130 species), shrubs (125 species), and lianas (10 species). Woodlands are found to be the most common habitat of angiosperms. A total of 387 species growing in this area are found to be economically useful. 25 species listed in Red Data Book of Bangladesh under different threatened categories are found under Lower Risk (LR) category in this study area. -

The vegetation along the roads was disturbed and the erosion started immediately after the disturbance caused by the road construction. Our assumption is that biotechnical measurements should prevent the problems caused by erosion and improve stabilization of road edges. The knowledge of plant species which are able to grow in unfavourable conditions along the roads is important for correct selection of plants used for outplanting. The vegetation succession was observed using phytosociological relevés as a tool of recording and mapping assambblages of plants species along the roads as new linear structures in the landscape. Data from phytosociological relevés were analysed and the succession was characterised in different altitudes. The results can help us to select group of plants (especially shrubs and trees), which are suitable to be used as stabilizing green mantle in various site conditions and for different purposes (anti-erosional, ornamental, protection against noise or dust, etc.). -

Horticulture sector is the only panacea to curtail the global economic degradation. It is the discipline which absorbs maximum labor strength and can play pivotal role for elevation of poverty. It can boost up the economic and social conditions of humanity. It gives the highest economic returns which are 4 – 5 times more as compared to the other agricultural crops. It is a solution for poverty alleviation, job creation and to cater the problem of drudgery on the global level. It is crystal clear that developing countries like Pakistan can find the solution of existing economic downfall through commercial adoptability of the horticulture on scientific grounds. OVERVIEW Soon Valley at a glance. Soothing climatic conditions of soon valley area and its contiguous parts of the pothohar region present an attractive heartening hope for the development of smart agriculture and horticulture industry in the CPEC scenario. Govt. College Jhunjhunu Abstract: Plant diversity remains essential for human beings, providing numerous modern and traditional remedies to the healthcare system. The vast land of Rajasthan together with its vegetation and flora has a variety of medicinal plants growing in different habitats. The present study aimed to document the preliminary analysis of rare and threatened medicinal plants of Beer Jhunjhunu Conservation Reserve of Rajasthan. The study area is a protected forest area and considered as important in terms of biodiversity. The area harbors rich flora and fauna. However, the rich resources including medicinal plants are disappearing at an alarming rate due to over- exploitation. Therefore, the management of traditional medicinal plant resources has become a matter of urgency. Conservation of the species in natural habitat and artificial regeneration would be the best opinion to recover the species from near extinction. CABIDO Keywords: Diversity, Grasslands, Ploughing, Spatial organization, Succession Abstract: Spatial arrangement and diversity along a post-ploughing succession are analyzed in a plateau at 1800 - 1900 m altitude in Centra! Argentina. Four successional stages were simultaneously studied: I (1 year of abandonment after ploughing), II (3-5 years), III (25 years) and IV (40 years). Detrended Correspondence Analysis and diversity analysis, comprising species diversity, spatial diversity and mean spatial niche width, were applied. It is concluded that (i) Spatial organization of grassland changes with succession: during early stages vegetation distribution follows a topographical gradient from upper to lower positions on slopes, whereas mosaic patterns prevail in late successional stages. (ii) As succession advances, species diversity increases, making us reject the hypothesis that species diversity decreases with succession as a result of the dominance of the grass Deyeuxia hieronymi. This process is associated with a progressive reduction of mean spatial niche width. Introduction The aim of this investigation was to describe the variability in spatial distribution of grasslands along a post-ploughing succession in the mountains of Central Argentina. -

This review includes the chemical studies on different species mainly the isolation and identification of flavonoids, rotenoids and study of activity of some isolated compounds and also includes diffe-rent pharmacological activities like antioxidant, antimicrobial, antic- ancer, antiplas-modial, anti-inflammatory, larvicidal and toxicity studies of extracts and fractions. Natural product chemistry, especially phytochemistry, has become a topic of interest for most of the research- hers due to the advantages of the plant derived medicinal compounds over the traditional ways of using herbal plants. Ethnopharmacology plays an important role in the discovery of new biologically active compounds. The process usually starts with searching of useful plants from different records to the development of methods for the industrial production of drugs (Rout et al., 2009; Farnsworth et al., 1985; Koehn and Carter, 2005).
