We are looking into getting a waste bin relocated to the entrance of Bathing House Wood to make this easier. But please remember, every piece of plastic litter you are responsible for [email protected] will remain in the environment for hundreds of years, contaminating the food chain and potentially killing wildlife and poisoning the food you eat. [email protected] So please just hang on to your litter until the next bin you come across. Our newly established Plastic-Free Fife network held a successful first meeting at the end of June. We are already engaging with our local MSPs to get Fife Council to step up its efforts to reduce unnecessary single-use plastics. Fife will also become the second region in the UK to pilot Surfers Against Sewage’s new regional hubs. As part of the SAS #LessPlasticPlease campaign, we are encouraging everyone to take photos of unnecessary plastic packaging and post them on our Facebook page. It is important to understand that plastic packaging of e.g. fresh produce offers absolutely no protection against Covid-19. 5 Greg Kenicer was ready to give us a presentation on 7th August 2020 but it was cancelled. We will have him in August 2021 instead. He was going to speak about Plants in Witchcraft. You may have seen Greg do a bit of presenting on Landward. He is very good. The DBHS Annual Show, the highlight of the DBHS year is cancelled this year. Anyone who knows me will realise how devastated I was to have to cancel the show. Of course, it was not just me who decided, it was a Committee decision. It will be sorely missed from the Dalgety Bay calendar this year. There was a mountain of correspondence sent out to all those involved with the show to tell them it was off. The sponsors and advertisers, judges, exhibitors, other gardening clubs, stewards, the DBHS engraver, the girl who makes the rosettes, the schools of Dalgety Bay, a whole host of people needed to be informed. We will be back in 2021. The “Jobs for” part of the DBHS report is now on the DBHS website at www.dbhs.org. Click on the “Jobs for” button to see what jobs you should be doing at this time of year. Did you know that Dalgety Bay Horticultural Society (DBHS) normally runs meetings on the first Friday of each month of the year, at 7:30pm in Dalgety Bay Community Centre and usually with a guest speaker, followed by light refreshments and a raffle? You are welcome to come along to our meetings when they restart, and who knows, you may be convinced to join us. Alternatively go to our website at www.dbhs.org, click on downloads, then membership form, fill it in then send it back. Membership is good value at £5. If you think you may be interested in joining, please phone, Michael Gourlay on 01383 823425. He will give you all the information you require. Michael Gourlay - Chairman, DBHS

13 HILLEND CAMERA CLUB

On 6th August the club had its first outdoor photo shoot. 13 members met (observing social distancing guidelines) at St Bridget’s Kirk with the brief - images for future projects around landscapes and buildings for processing into monochrome. The club started after lockdown restrictions were imposed and so for the first 16 weeks it was conducted on line with contact between members limited to Facebook and Flickr posts and comments. It was therefore good to meet in person. The following week the first meeting at the Hillend Tavern took place under strict social distancing on 13th August with 14 attendees. Peter Stanford, club Technical Director, said that it was difficult in terms of social distancing with some nervousness expressed by members. Three members had cancelled just prior to the meeting, all feeling they were not ready to meet indoors. Club President John Hutton introduced people to the meeting reiterating the strange circumstances we find ourselves in. He thanked Peter for his diligence in putting together the online programme and supporting members generally. Peter then gave a presentation highlighting how the club had arrived and the changes that took place because of the pandemic. He accepted that some people had joined the online programme from art and photographic clubs that had nothing similar. He continued by saying we were now arriving at a point where we could realise our real membership. After a break Peter showed photographs and took the meeting through the sixteen week programme. Members were then offered the chance to show their own photographs and to discuss their own experiences behind their cameras. Before the meeting closed it was emphasised that the meting next week would be a photo shoot and that the following meeting would be an opportunity for members to enrol for next year. To facilitate those who still feel unable to meet in the Tavern it was agreed that membership forms would be emailed next week giving the members the opportunity to enrol through email replies if they wanted to. Contact can be made through the club’s Technical Director

Peter Stanford at 01383825606 or 07368629933.

St Bridget’s Kirk - 6th August Photo Shoot

The Covid pandemic is having a dramatic effect on the livelihoods of Fairtrade farmers and producers across the globe and much work has been going on behind the scenes to try and make some redress. The Fairtrade Foundation has won two out of eight grants launched today by the UK Government to support agricultural producers and garment workers in developing countries during the coronavirus pandemic, and to build longer-term resilience in their core supply chains. The grants have come from a new £6.85m Vulnerable Supply Chains Facility (VSCF), established by the Department of International Development (DFID) in partnership with the Department of International Trade. A total of £2m of the match funding included in the VSCF was contributed by UK businesses. Of this £2m, Fairtrade Foundation helped to raise over a third: its partner Mondelēz International contributed £640,000 for cocoa producers, while Co-op, M&S and Tesco offered £25,000 each (£75,000 in total) for flower producers. The VSCF aims to help nearly a million people by ensuring vulnerable workers and suppliers overseas - and their families - are prepared for the economic and social shocks of COVID-19, and to help keep popular products like chocolate and flowers on high street shelves in the UK. Using this funding, the Fairtrade Foundation will work closely with its business partners to support some of the most vulnerable flower and cocoa producers in Kenya and Ghana, partnering with MM Flowers, Mondelēz International, Co-op, M&S, Tesco, Coventry University, FNET, Women Working Worldwide and Partner Africa. Louisa Cox, Director of Impact at the Fairtrade Foundation, said: 'We are excited that the Fairtrade Foundation has been awarded two out of the eight grants available: these will go a long way to helping some of those hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, and who supply us with some of our favourite products. This demonstrates the strength of our projects and partnerships, and our innovative approach that involves working hand-in-hand with businesses to ensure resilient supply chains. You, too, can help - just keep supporting Fairtrade and buying Fairtrade products. If you would like to become a Fairtrade supporter or would like more information about Fairtrade, please contact Winnie Wood, Chair (822516) or Robin Arnott, Secretary (822293). Have a look at our web site (www.fairtrade-dalgetybay.org.uk); check out our local Fairtrade Directory and read about Fairtrade 'Beyond 2015 and towards 2030'.

Why are we changing our Appointment System? ● As lockdown measures continue to change, we have had to follow the Health Protection Scotland Guidance and adapt the way we deal with patients' medical problems. To keep patients and staff safe, we will have to deal with patients remotely wherever possible. ● Working differently will help us to free up capacity, offer a sustainable service, and ensure that our patients access the right person in the right place at the right time in a safe way. We have a range of clinical and professional staff available to offer health care to patients to help us to do this.

What if I do not have a computer, smart phone, tablet/iPad? ● Online Consult does not require registration logins or password so a family member or friend can complete the online form on your behalf, even if they do not live at your address. ● Patients with no means to access the online form can telephone the Surgery. Your details will be taken and you will be placed on a list for a call back from a member of staff who will complete the form for you, with your input.

What if I am under 16? ● Please ask a parent or guardian to fill out the form on your behalf. ● If you do not wish a parent or guardian to know you are contacting the Surgery then please telephone Reception.

How quickly will someone deal with the form? ● We will aim to deal with the form as quickly as possible throughout the day but no later than 2 working days (excluding weekends and public holidays) after receipt.

Will I be able to telephone for an appointment on the day? ● The best way to seek medical help is to complete the online form. ● If you are looking for advice on the day, the earlier the form is completed, the more likely you will receive advice on the day.
