Hello and welcome to the combined July / August Diary. Let me start by expressing our thanks and a huge ‘well done’ to the Gala team for all the hard work put into the preparation and running of the Gala. Despite the weather, once again it was a successful day enjoyed by all who attended. Good news all round for play parks too. The new Jubilee Park play park is nearing its construction phase. There’s an update on this progress in this issue. It’s been a long haul for the Dalgety Bay Play Park Project team and its members’ staying power and achievement has to be commended. There is also a move to revitalise other play parks around our town. In this issue of the Diary there’s an interesting article from Bay Playparks, complete with map, about the other play parks. Please give them your support. I hope you have a good summer. Next Diary is September. INVERKEITHING MEDICAL GROUP SURGERY NEWS I imagine that if I had dementia, I’d be devastated. But I hope I’d find the courage to make the best of things. I’d take the medication. I’d try to lead a normal life. I’d want my love ones to know that I love them, to remember that the love I have for them and the memories we had are real and will not change. Accept this cruel disease that has corrupted the last chapter of my life. Recognise that it is OK to accept help and put me into a home. I will not blame you, I know you care and you have tried. It is a hard journey losing a loved one to dementia and we all need a helping hand. This is an exciting opportunity for a small group of patients with similar needs to meet together with a selection of health care professionals, including GPs, Practice Nurse and Practice Pharmacist to receive education which will enable self management of their long term condition. The meeting will last approximately 1½-2 hours. The group consultation will be a structured, facilitated and confidential session held in the Practice. Patient interaction within the group will be encouraged. The benefits from these longer consultations will include more time to discuss what matters to each patient, establishing connections for peer learning, opportunities and support resulting in patients feeling more in control of their long term condition and to self manage more effectively. The first group consultation is planned for the end of June. Availability of Appointments July/August During the months of July and August the Practice will be operating with reduced staffing levels. This may result in longer waiting times for routine appointments. The Triage Emergency Service will be available for dealing with URGENT problems that cannot wait. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Despite forecast of heavy rain, the Gala team and the community soldiered on. Kicking off with a magnificent parade with an estimated 2,000 people taking part it got everyone in the Gala mood. Led by the sponsor MDN Autocare and Blairadam and Kelty Pipe Band, the procession included groups from the two primary schools – Dalgety Bay and Donibristle, Geilda’s Dance School, Robertson’s Dance Academy, Sea Cadets, Scouts, Brownies, Guides, bikers, The Blood bikes and much, much more. 17 Dalgety Bay Beach Cleans Our next beach clean will take place at Barnhill Bay on 7 July 2019. We will meet in the Shell Braefoot Terminal car park (NT182839) at 10am. Barnhill Bay is the beach along the bottom of Aberdour golf course. Fife Council will supply litter sticks and single-use gloves, but please bring your own heavy-duty gloves if you can. Wellies and old clothes are also recommended. Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult and their parent or guardian will need to sign a consent form. The event is covered by the MCS public liability insurance and the collected waste will be removed by Fife Council. After we have cleaned the beach, those who wish to can stay on for a (BYO) picnic lunch so we can have a bit more of a chat than is usually possible when we’re all hard at work picking up rubbish. It would be a big help if anyone planning to attend would let me know so I can get an idea of numbers and order the right amount of equipment from FCCT. Over the last few weeks, I have picked up around 100 kg of wet wipes and other sanitary items from a 100 m stretch of shoreline by Ross Plantation. That’s right, 100 kg! And every tide brings in more. Wet wipes that have been flushed down the toilet escape from sewers into the sea, adding yet more synthetic fibres to an already badly stressed marine environment. The FoE page on the subject is well worth a read (https://friendsoftheearth.uk/). The basic message is that even if they claim to be biodegradable, they should be binned, not flushed down the loo. It’s not asking much, really, is it? Apparently, the Thames’ riverbed is now entirely covered in wet wipes and it wouldn’t surprise me if the Forth is similar, given what I have found. So please bin them – it’s something easy that everyone can do to help our environment. Facebook: Dalgety Bay Beach Cleans; e-mail: [email protected]
