The new president will take office Aug. 6. To date, five presidential candidates are participating in the race: Hugo Banzer, representing the coalition of the Nationalist Democratic Action (Accion Democratica Nacionalista, ADN) party and the Revolutionary Left Movement (Movimiento de Izquierda Revolucionaria, MIR); Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada, representing the Revolutionary Nationalist Movement (Movimiento Nacionalista Revolucionario, MNR); Carlos Palenque, representing the Conscience of the Homeland (Conciencia de Patria) party; Max Fernandez, representing the Solidarity Civic Union (Unidad Civica Solidaridad, UCS) and Antonio Aranibar, representing the Free Bolivia Movement (Movimiento Bolivia Libre, MBL).
