Macomb County Cte Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes Human Services MACOMB COUNTY CTE ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES OCTOBER 27, 2010 Macomb Intermediate School District HUMAN SERVICES PATHWAY 13.0000 Education General (Teacher Cadet) 19.0700 Child and Custodial Care Services COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT: Steve Osborne Anchor Bay High School [email protected] Theresa Osborne Anchor Bay High School [email protected] Yolanda White Anchor Bay High School [email protected] Patricia Muller Anchor Bay High School [email protected] Cheryl Zisler Anchor Bay High School [email protected] Lisa Carr Chippewa Valley High School [email protected] Carol Hartson Clintondale High School [email protected] Terri Kubiny Dakota High School [email protected] Bonnie Awery-Kaulfuss L’Anse Creuse - Pankow Center [email protected] Kathy Dier L’Anse Creuse - Pankow Center [email protected] Suzanne Dzieciolowski Roseville High School [email protected] New Business: The evening began with Guest Keynote Speaker Kim Meltzer, State Representative for the 33rd District of Macomb County and Entrepreneur / co-owner of CAMmand Machining LLC, Romeo, Michigan. She presented her “optimistic” view for all careers and pathways around Macomb County keeping in mind that she is coming from what all consider the most difficult career or pathway to recover from, Manufacturing. Dinner was served after her keynote address followed by our breakout session. Breakout Session: Welcome: Facilitator: Yolanda White Meeting Called to Order: Chairperson: Carol Hartson Introductions: Scribe: Cheryl Zisler Round table introductions by all present 1. Business Partner Question: Carol Hartson A. How have “Renewable Energy” issues (Sustainable and / or Green Technology) impacted your business endeavors ? Response: “Recycle Art” This is a main method of products being used for activities. Preschoolers are also being taught to recycle. Green cleaning solutions are used. B. How do you believe our secondary school curricula should address those issues ? Response: Get students to bring recycle articles for use in the preschool. They can collect through clubs (Key Club). Teachers of America Club can do to fulfill requirements. Use old shirts for smocks, dress up cloths and props for dramatic play, tennis shoes to learn how to tie shoes, etc. 2. Post-Secondary (if Present): What can our secondary programs do to provide a better connection to post-secondary programs ? Response: Get Post-Secondary involved as part of our advisory committee. Most of us have articulation agreements with colleges as Baker and Macomb. There can be duel enrollment programs established as well. Have representatives come from the colleges to our advisory meetings and tour our facilities and speak to the students in our programs. 3. Discretionary Question or Discussion: Spoke on the merge of the two classes of Child Care and Teacher and how to do it. It was suggested to do it as a two year program. Question was on funding doing it this way. It was found out to be ok by Bonnie Awrey-Kaulfuss. Another suggestion was using next year as a transition year with teaching Child Care and filtering them into the new “Education” course. Questions arose about VG endorsements and teaching the merged course. Several were told by Norma Tims that having the South Carolina course and a masters degree and teaching for 5 years is the equivalent to the VG. Names were discussed for the new course. Teacher Education was a suggestion. Discussion took place on the teacher being on site with the teacher cadets. Meeting Adjourned: 8:01 pm Respectfully Submitted, Scribe: Cheryl Zisler MAKE PLANS NOW !!! Next Regional Meeting MISD OCTOBER 19, 2011 Time TBA FN:MacombCountyCTEAdvisoryMinutesGeneralEducation2010 .
