    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JURIES ANNOUNCED FOR 2015 TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL *** Jurors Include Dylan McDermott, Cobie Smulders, Whoopi Goldberg, Gloria Steinem, Vanessa Williams, Steve Buscemi, Shelia Nevins, Debi Mazar, HanK Azaria, Mamie Gummer, MarK Boal, and Joana Vicente New York, NY [April 6, 2015] – The 2015 Tribeca Film Festival (TFF), presented by AT&T, today announced its jurors – a diverse group of 34 industry leaders, including award-winning filmmakers, producers, acclaimed actors, authors and entrepreneurs. The jury will be divided among the seven competitive Festival categories. The winning films, filmmakers and actors in each category will be announced at the TFF Awards Night ceremony on April 23 at Spring Studios. The 2015 Festival runs from April 15 –26. “The group of unique voices and perspectives that make up this year’s jury are sure to spark thoughtful discussion – and perhaps some friendly debate – around this year’s films,” said Jane Rosenthal, co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival. The seven TFF juries will award $150,000 in cash and prizes. This study focuses on categorization and function of the characters in the movie and conflicts in the main character (external and internal conflicts). The data of this study were taken from a movie entitled Doctor Strange. The data were collected through documentation method. In analyzing the data, the study used qualitative method. The categorization and function were analyzed based on the theory proposed by Wellek and Warren (1955:227), supported by the theory of literature proposed by Kathleen Morner (1991:31). The conflict was analyzed based on the theory of literature proposed by Kenney (1966:5). The findings show that the categorization and function of the characters in the movie are as follows: Stephen Strange (dynamic protagonist character), Kaecilius (static antagonist character). Secondary characters are The Ancient One (static protagonist character), Mordo (static protagonist character) and Christine (dynamic protagonist character). The supporting character is Wong (static protagonist character). Then there are two types of conflicts found in this movie, internal and external conflicts. But I disagree with those critics, and I actually think his efforts are inspiring. He has always given everything in their roles, to create some kind of realism to the character and the movie itself. Just as his enthusiasm for doing his own stunts, so I see this as no more than an artistic way to sell the illusion that what we see in the film, is real. Abstract Established in 2008 with the release of Iron Man, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become a ubiquitous transmedia sensation. Its uniquely interwoven narrative provides auspicious grounds for scholarly consideration. The franchise conscientiously presents larger-than-life superheroes as complex and incredibly emotional individuals who form profound interpersonal relationships with one another. This thesis explores Sarah Hagelin’s concept of resistant vulnerability, which she defines as a “shared human experience,” as it manifests in the substantial relationships that Steve Rogers (Captain America) cultivates throughout the Captain America narrative (11). This project focuses on Steve’s relationships with the following characters: Agent Peggy Carter, Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow), and Bucky Barnes (The Winter Soldier).

Melalui analisis menggunakan kode-kode televisi John Fiske ditemukan bahwa film Doctor Strange mengukuhkan permasalahan Whiteness terkait hegemoni kulit putih atas kulit hitam. Secara intelektual dan akademik kulit putih lebih cerdas dan logis, dalam perekonomian kulit putih lebih kaya dan makmur, secara sosial kulit putih lebih diterima, dan dalam aspek politik kulit putih berpeluang lebih akan hak kekuasaan dibanding kulit hitam. ABSTRACT Semiotics research on Doctor Strange (2016) that had a change in its storyline and cast was done by using descriptive qualitative approach, in order to view the portrayal of Whiteness as a problem that happened in America society. Through an analysis using John Fiske's codes of television, it is found that Doctor Strange (2016) strenghtened the problem of Whiteness was related to hegemony of white people over black people. Doctor Strange (2016) represented that intellectually and academically, the white people were more intelligent and logical, economically richer and more prosperous, socially more acceptable and in the political aspect they had more chance toward the right of power than the black people.

    CHAPTER II REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE This chapter is the explanation about the theoretical description which is used in the research. There are four major points of this chapter; theoretical description, previous studies, conceptual framework and movie review. 2.1 Theoretical Description In this part, the researcher presents two important parts of this research, pragmatics and speech act. Pragmatics is scope of linguistics which concern about sentence meaning. It has 6 branches, and one of them is speech act. Speech act is the utterances which are performed by the speaker in the conversation. 2.1.1 Pragmatics 2.1.1.1 Definition of Pragmatics Semantics and pragmatics are scope of linguistics which study about meaning, but those two fields are different. Semantics focuses on meaning as a diadic relation whereas pragmatics relate with meaning as a triadic relation. In pragmatics, the study of meaning is related to the speaker or the user of language in that present time (Leech, 1983:5-6). In line with Leech, Yule (1996:3) explains that pragmatics has four definitions or scopes. The first, pragmatics deals with speakers’ meaning of communication. The second, pragmatics is the study about contextual meaning or the interpretation of what people mean in the context. Then, the third is the study of how the language more communicated that it’s said. The last definition of pragmatics is the study about the expression whether it is said or not of relative distance of communication. Griffiths (2006:1) adds “Pragmatics is concerned with the use of these tools in meaningful communication”. The word tools in his sentence refer to tool in of meaning which is known by people as a language.
