[email protected] 0412545121 Smoked bishop for Sandra Oldis Kruger doll by Sandra O. Lou’s “Look in the Library” Greetngs Smockers, Have you been enjoying the wet weather? At least it is a good opportunity for some smocking. This month I have for your perusal the next two issues of AS&E. Thank you also for the great feedback for this segment.

ISSUE 37 Those who are into dolls will enjoy the issue as it has a young girl’s drop waist dress with a matching doll’s dress. Both the paterns are included and as always the instructons are clear and easy to follow. It features some , bullions and pintucks; such a wonderful combinaton of techniques for any smocked garment. Are you interested in counterchange smocking? The two sundresses on pps 4-7 are a lovely combinaton of red and navy blue. They are front opening dresses with piping and one is embel- lished with a white collar. I think they look very modern. The next outit is made from twill and is beautfully smocked around a front panel of embroidery. It is exquisite. A variety of gorgeous dresses are featured along with a boy’s outit featuring smocked panels.

ISSUE 38 Featuring a beautful bishop dress , this mag is flled with lovely smocking ideas. Do you re- member Sandra talking about smocking with knit fabric? Take a look at the dress on page 4 It is quite simple but trendy and would be a good alternatve to the usual coton type dresses. Smocking provides us with the opportunity to make lovely gifs. Have a look at the coathanger and baby cushion on page 19. These paterns would suit those of us who love to embroider. Clear instructons for shadow work is also provided. Have you ever thought about smocking on knited fabric? It is very similar to smocking on a singlet. The patern is a classic style of a 1940’s cardigan with smocking and bullions. Once again clear instructons are included. A very unusual bag patern with a smocked doll applique is also featured. The doll is clothed in a smocked bishop dress and atached to the bag. Interestng concept?

We are now really looking forward to our weekend away at Ferndale. Oh what joy to be away from the vexatons of life.

Happy Smocking. Lou Tedesco.

Donaton to Carefight

In 2016 the Guild made a donaton to Carefight to purchase Intubator trainers. These are the CareFlight clinicians using the neonatal intubaton trainer during a training session. www.careflight.org Fun at “Ferndale” Weekend

Wow, what a weekend we have just experienced!!

UFOs emerged from craf cupboards and culminated in an Aggregaton of Aliens, Darth Va- ders, constellatons & planets for a Saturday night celebraton, which was much enjoyed by everyone present.

Our resident weather girl, Ann-Maree, and her apprentce Trish, kept us well informed on the many informed on the many faces of the weekend weather: mist, showers, torrental rain and fnally, just as we were leaving Ferndale, sunshine!!

We experienced a terrifc partcipaton in Maries quiltng class with 19 completely diferent quilts emerging from one identcal patern. An amazing variety of work coming from a group of su- perbly creatve women. Beautful colour variatons and a couple of space themed ones too.

Many, many thanks to the Apex Alien Sue aka Darth Vader, and her trustworthy side-kick Sheridan (Obi-Wan Kenobi) who put in hours and hours of planning to make our space adventure such fun and safely returned us back to earthly reality on a sunny Sunday afernoon.

New spacey informaton was learned from our quiz - did you know that Venus has a retrograde rotaton around the sun? Many beautful gifs were won and space themed fat-quarters shared.

As previously, Kee & Chris fed us superbly. Three delicious & varied meals complete with delicious home-made morning and afernoon teas with everyone’s special needs catered for. My personal favourites – san choy bow, dumplings, jam drop biscuits and chocolate mousse. Yum!!
