Becky Buller is the first person in the 27-year history of the International Bluegrass Music (IBMA) awards to ever win in both an instrumental and vocal category. That’s right, folks. EVER! In fact, this fiery-haired fiddling St. James, Minn., native has garnered FIVE IBMA awards in the last two years: the 2016 Fiddler and Female Vocalist along with 2015 Songwriter, Emerging Artist and Recorded Event Of The Year for her version of Bill Monroe’s “Southern Flavor”. She heads up the Becky Buller Band and has written songs recorded by some of the best in the industry, including Ricky Skaggs, Rhonda Vincent, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, and the Infamous Stringdusters, just to name a few. She penned the title cut of Special Consensus’ album Scratch Gravel Road, a 2013 Bluegrass Album Of The Year Grammy nominee. Becky’s other notable honors include: featured in the July 2015 issue of Bluegrass Unlimited magazine; featured on the Spring 2012 cover of Fiddler magazine; awarded the 2006 IBMA Recorded Event of the Year nod for her work with the Daughters of Bluegrass; and named the 2001 bluegrass category winner at MerleFest’s Chris Austin Songwriting contest. In early 2017, Dark Shadow Recording will release Becky’s fourth solo record, which prominently features her fabulous road band. Her other recordings include: ‘Tween Earth And Sky (Dark Shadow Recording, 2014); Little Bird (Bell Buckle Records, 2004); and Rest My Weary Feet (SRS 2000). Becky can also be heard on Pickin’ Like A Girl (Blue Circle, 2013), by the Daughters of Bluegrass as well as Flying (Organic, 2013) and Snapshots (Mountain Home, 2015) from Darin & Brooke Aldridge and multiple recordings from Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike. After graduating from East Tennessee State University in 2001, Becky spent ten years on the road with Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike and two years with Darin & Brooke Aldridge. In her spare time, Becky teaches vocal, instrumental music, and songwriting in her adopted hometown of Manchester, Tenn, and online around the world; publishes her own compositions; and serves on the IBMA Board Of Directors. Members are Mack Arrington (Banjo, Guitar), Ray Knight (Guitar, Mandolin), Charles Long (Bass, Dobro), and Sue Roush (Mandolin, Guitar, Fiddle). The core of this group goes back to the 1970’s when Mack and Ray played together in a group called Harvest which they describe as a bluegrass band. Harvest had the expected guitar, banjo, and bass instruments, but also included some bluesy tunes with harmonica, flute, clarinet, and electric guitar. Since then Mack and Ray have focused on bluegrass ballads and gospel. In 2005 Sue started attending Covenant Fellowship Church at Bur Mill Park where she met Mack. Mack and Sue began working together on music for congregational singing. This inspired Mack to get Sue, Ray, and himself jamming informally every week at Ray’s hair salon. It wasn’t long before Sue felt the group needed a bass player for a fuller sound and to keep everyone together! She invited her friend Charles to join and Sweetwater was born. The four have grown together since the summer of 2007, concentrating on a repertoire of music that reflects not only traditional bluegrass but a little of everything; Classics, Country, Folk, Rock, and Gospel.

Effects Pedal for a Mandolin or Banjo??? Don't gimme no pedals, no special effects... Turning acoustic music into audible train wrecks... Maturity is a thing that oft comes with age... Why not spend your dime and your time, “learning to play”? When I was fourteen, I was all about FUZZ... And also BIG DECIBALS and all that that does... Now that I'm 60 and my hearing's impaired... I prefer ACOUSTIC MUSIC to all others compared... Harmony and melody sound better from wood... But I traded it for FUZZ, DECIBALS and other things not good... Eventually, I smartened and studied the 'notes'... I learned scale and chord theory and loud music I smote... Now much older, I can see through the noise... I no longer need to spend hard-earned money on 'toys'... Pedals, effects and loud amps set your nerves ajar... I prefer my acoustic mandolin, banjo, fiddle or guitar... Traditional music brought me around... The Norman Blake, Doc Watson and Tony Rice sound... Them fellers can play and they do it so good... They got me to practicing so that some day, I could! 2 PRESIDENT’S REPORT BMI’s just–concluded fiscal year was one of the most challenging and most rewarding in the company’s recent history as we successfully REVENUE PER EMPLOYEE (THOUSANDS) refocused and realigned the company’s strategic vision and our operational infrastructure for a new era in rights management. Across every segment of the company’s operations, BMI has rededicated $1668 itself to be “the future of performing rights.” We are building upon our core competencies to ensure BMI’s continued relevance in a dynamic market, guided by principles of continuous improvement and innovation. For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2012, BMI reported revenues of $898.7 million and royalty distributions to our affiliates totaling $749.8 million. These results represent a decline over the prior year, due primarily to the impact of the industry–wide settlement with the radio industry, which was announced in June. Excluding the impact of this settlement, BMI revenues would have increased by 4.1%. $529 BMI operates under GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and was required to absorb in FY 2012 the full amount of a one–time refund to RMLC stations of $70.5 million related to prior years. As a ‘94 ‘96 ‘98 ‘00 ‘02 ‘04 ‘06 ‘08 ‘10 ‘12 result, BMI moves into fiscal year 2013 unencumbered by prior financial obligations related to the agreement. Going forward, BMI projects PRODUCTIVITY HAS TRIPLED IN THE PAST 20 YEARS. a company–wide return to revenue and royalty distribution growth, resuming an unbroken 20–year record of year-over-year increases.
