All bred mares must have a veterinary certificate within 30 days of the sale stat- ing that the mare is in foal. Flu and rhino shots are required to be administered and documented before the sale. Any buyer of a bred mare who is uncertain of her being bred must have her vet checked by the sale vet before she leaves the grounds. If she is bred the cost of checking will be paid by the buyer. If not, it will be paid by the seller. Hay, Straw, and Feed Hay and straw will be available to purchase at market prices. Under the terms of the Farm Show Building, no shavings are allowed. Registrations All consignments to the Mid-Atlantic Sale are required to be registered. The sale requires that all original registrations and transfers be in place before the animal goes into the sale ring. Catalog number of horse is sale number. Buyers: All sales are final. The seller guarantees the identity of each animal as it appears on the reg- istration certificate. All horses will be transferred to the person indicated on the sales slip. Cost to transfer ownership of the consignments to new owners will be deducted from the sale proceeds. Title passes at the fall of the auctioneer’s ham- mer, at which time all risk and responsibility for the horse passes to the buyer. - 3 - Terms All consignments must have a new halter and lead rope, otherwise the sale committee will supply one and charge the seller for the cost. No horse will be allowed to leave the barns without a checkout slip indicating full payment. All horses must be removed from the barns by midnight Saturday evening, the last day of the sale. All sellers are responsible for their horses up until the time that the gavel falls, after which the buyer is in full respon- sibility. The sale committee of the Mid-Altantic Breeder’s Sale, LLC reserves the right to reject any horses for any reason including but not limited to: Unsoundness, poor condi- tion, and improper documentation of registration or health papers. Sales Tax Horses sold are subject to the 6% Pennsylvania sales tax. This tax must be paid by the buyer in addition to the purchase price, unless the sale of the horse qualified for exemp- tion under the rules and regulations of the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue and the buyer furnishes the sale certificates of exemption in the form approved by the Department of Revenue. Exemption forms with instructions will be available in the sales office and may be executed by the buyer at time of settlement. Buyer’s Payment Buyer shall pay for the horse(s) prior to the conclusion of the sale by one or more of the following means: cash, approved personal check (with letter from bank guaranteeing pay- ment), money order, cashier’s check, traveler’s check or credit card (VISA/Mastercard). US funds only. Checks are to be made payable to Mid-Atlantic Breeder’s Sale. A $75 service charge on all bad checks (NSF, Stop Payment, etc.). Warranties Ages, heights, markings and physical conditions are approximated and not guaranteed. It is the responsibility and obligation of the buyer to examine the horse before he bids, as all sales will be final. In case typographical errors or other errors are discovered, the auction- eer will announce them, which will take precedence over the printed catalog. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to the auctioneer’s announcements. Guarantees No guarantees whatsoever, expressed or implied, are made by the sale committee, the auctioneers, pedigree readers, bid spotters, or anyone associated with the Mid-Atlantic Breeder’s Sale, LLC as to title, quality, unsoundness or soundness of any consignments. Presentations given in writing by the consignor to the sale committee will be announced at the time of sale as though by the consignor. Any claims made based upon said presenta- tions, guarantees, or omissions, shall be made against the consignor only and not the sale committee or any persons related to the sale. Seller’s statements of soundness or unsound- ness will be announced at the sale. Liabilities Everyone is urged to use caution and care while attending the sale.     Boys and Girls by Alice Munro My father was a fox farmer. That is, he raised silver foxes, in pens; and in the fall and early winter, when their fur was prime, he killed them and skinned them and sold their pelts to the Hudson's Bay Company or the Montreal Fur Traders. These companies supplied us with heroic calendars to hang, one on each side of the kitchen door. Against a background of cold blue sky and black pine forests and treacherous northern rivers, plumed adventures planted the flags of England and or of France; magnificent savages bent their backs to the portage. For several weeks before Christmas, my father worked after supper in the cellar of our house. The cellar was whitewashed, and lit by a hundred-watt bulb over the worktable. My brother Laird and I sat on the top step and watched. My father removed the pelt inside-out from the body of the fox, which looked surprisingly small, mean, and rat-like, deprived of its arrogant weight of fur. The naked, slippery bodies were collected in a sack and buried in the dump. One time the hired man, Henry Bailey, had taken a swipe at me with this sack, saying, "Christmas present!" My mother thought that was not funny. In fact she disliked the whole pelting operation--that was what the killing, skinning, and preparation of the furs was called – and wished it did not have to take place in the house. There was the smell. After the pelt had been stretched inside-out on a long board my father scraped away delicately, removing the little clotted webs of blood vessels, the bubbles of fat; the smell of blood and animal fat, with the strong primitive odour of the fox itself, penetrated all parts of the house.

Harold Wayland, 1979 ARCHIVES CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY Pasadena, California Subject area Engineering and applied science Abstract An interview in six sessions, December 1983–January 1985, with J. Harold Wayland, professor emeritus of engineering science in the Division of Engineering and Applied Science. Dr. Wayland received a BS in physics and mathematics from the University of Idaho, 1931, and became a graduate student at Caltech in 1933, earning his PhD in 1937. After graduation he taught at the University of Redlands while working at Caltech as a research fellow with H. Bateman until 1941. Joins Naval Ordnance Laboratory as head of the magnetic model section for degaussing ships; War Research Fellow at Caltech 1944-45; heads Navy’s Underwater Ordnance Division. In 1949, joins Caltech’s faculty as associate professor of applied mechanics, becoming professor of engineering science in 1963; emeritus in 1979. He describes his early education and graduate work at Caltech under R. A. Millikan; courses with W. R. Smythe, F. Zwicky, M. Ward, and W. V.     THURSDAY, 26 NOVEMBER 2020 PINHOOKERS= PARADISE AS BIZAKOV TO UNITE STUDS UNDER SUMBE BANNER FOAL SEASON BEGINS Nurlan Bizakov will unite his British and French studs, Hesmonds Stud and Montfort et Preaux, under the same name: Sumbe, for his birthplace in Kazakhstan. Bizakov said, ATo understand this decision, you have to go back in time. I was born in Kazakhstan in the city of Sumbe. Nestling at the foot of the country's highest mountain, it's a region famed for its agricultural produce and the quality of its horse breeding. I think that these 'country' roots--embedded in an environment where the horse was very present--naturally influenced my decision to breed racehorses. AAt Hesmonds Stud, I was initially able to rely on a very high-class team. Over a period of around 20 years, and under the stewardship of stud manager Tony Fry, it became one of the most modern studs in Britain. Further down the line, but in Normandy, I had the opportunity to acquire Montfort et Preaux: a stud farm run by another man of repute, Mathieu Alex.     Degree on English Studies 2016-2017 Anthropomorphic Imagery of Animals (Dragons and Horses) in the Works of Michael Ende and C.S. Lewis. Ágata C. Teixeira Salgado Supervisor: Cristina Jarillot Rodal Department of English and German Philology Abstract For several centuries, anthropomorphism has been a common feature used in fantastic literature; our interest in giving animals and objects human traits – clothing them, making them talk – has influenced the arts. Hence, animals have been typically used to perpetuate morals and humour the readers. Moreover, anthropomorphism’s role in children’s literature has made possible to call for its readers’ attention to grown-up matters allowing them to maintain a certain distance and explore the concerns at hand without getting too involved. Bearing that in mind, the purpose of this study is to explore the role of two kinds of anthropomorphic animals, fantastic and real, to see how these animals intervene in the quest and learnings of the heroes and to understand what lessons they might convey to the readers. In order to do so, the following dissertation will contrast and examine two dragons and two horses from three novels; Artax and Falkor from The Neverending Story by Michael Ende and Bree and Eustace from C.S. Lewis’ collection The Chronicles of Narnia: The Horse and His Boy and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Subsequently, the scrutiny of the relationship between animals and heroes – observing how it develops and affects either the quest, the hero or both - will show that dragons and horses equally serve their masters/friends, function as a guiding voice of reason and encouragement and are incredibly loyal.
