Mighty battlefleets cross the daemon-infested miasma of the warp, the only route between distant stars, their way lit by the Astronomican, the psychic manifestation of the Emperor’s will. Vast armies give battle in His name on uncounted worlds. Greatest amongst his soldiers are the Adeptus Astartes, the Space Marines, bio-engineered super-warriors. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Imperial Guard and countless Planetary Defence Forces, the ever-vigilant Inquisition and the tech-priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from aliens, heretics, mutants - and worse. To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruellest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war.

En los primeros años su música se calificaba como black metal, desde 1994 como pagan metal, usando grabaciones de guitarra acústica. Posteriormente, la banda comenzó a tocar death metal, sustituyendo la temática pagana por el ocultismo y la mitología de Oriente Medio. El nombre del grupo es el de un demonio de la mitología hebrea, llamado Behemot. Ellos han sido considerados una parte importante dentro de la escena polaca del metal extremo,[3][4] junto con bandas como Vader, Decapitated, Vesania y Hate. Behemoth (banda) 2 Biografía La banda ha variado el estilo a lo largo de su carrera, al principio tenía un estilo totalmente black metal, pero fue cambiando hasta convertirse en blackened death metal. Nergal es el único miembro original de la banda. Empezó el proyecto en 1990 con unas grabaciones de escasa calidad como Endless Damnation y The Return of the Northern Moon, el más significativo fue From the Pagan Vastlands hecho en 1993, el cual mostraba el potencial de Nergal como escritor y compositor. Después de firmar con una discográfica poco conocida de Italia llamada Entropy, la banda grabó su primer mini álbum titulado And the Forests Dream Eternally en el año 1994, seguido de su debut oficial con el disco Sventevith (Storming near the Baltic), hecho junto a la discográfica polaca Pagan.
