Expect intense, passionate, and radical stuff from this blog. mardi 13 avril 2021 Drumcorps - Better Days (2021) Better Days is in my opinion the best release from Drumcorps, having the radicality and impact of "Grist" (the frst album from 2006) but less samples-based and with a more condensed and better songwriting, while the melodic/shoegazy element that appeared on "Falling Forward" is feature in the Better Days song, with a good result. And if you don't know yet Drumcorps it is an Aron Spectre project mixing breakcore and metal, jungle loops and beats and hm-2 guitars and blast beats. Aaron Spectre is also doing the vocals for the first time (it's not sampled vocals any more). Cyber grind? junglecore? Grindbreak? Drum & grind? Has been tried before but rarely so successfully. Popular I could say i have a sort of love/hate relationship with grindcore, mostly because when its well made, it’s Kingcrow ‑ Insider completely and utterly awesome, but most of the times its just an amalgam of noise and not in the good sense, December 20, 2013 also i could say i have the same feeling with electronic music in general, so when Aaron Specter‘s Drumcorps no comments pulls this “Grist” saying it’s a mixing of grindcore and breakcore… i tend to take it with a grain of salt. It all starts up with “Botch Up and Die” and it’s pretty grindcore, kinda of a homage to Botch, with the eccentric Dark Tranquility and Sonata guitars over a grind blast beat, its not only amusing but quite groovy, nicely done, “Down” is kinda dance meets Arctica joined forces for Heavy noisecore with distorted samples and guitars into the mix, okkk, “Pig Destroyer Destroyer” has some nice Metal Poker Tournament drumming building to a slowed down chopped distorted noise filled beat … are we making fun of Pig Destroyer?, December 12, 2013 is this supposed to be a compliment or a satire, anyway it all builds up to a distorted guitar breakcore fest, no comments mixing real life drumming with beats and distortion….

    The Other by Itself: Authenticity in electronic dance music in Serbia at the turn of the centuries Inaugural dissertation submitted to attain the academic degree of Dr phil., to Department 07 – History and Cultural Studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz Irina Maksimović Belgrade Mainz 2016 Supervisor: Co-supervisor: Date of oral examination: May 10th 2017 Abstract Electronic dance music (shortly EDM) in Serbia was an authentic phenomenon of popular culture whose development went hand in hand with a socio-political situation in the country during the 1990s. After the disintegration of Yugoslavia in 1991 to the moment of the official end of communism in 2000, Serbia was experiencing turbulent situations. On one hand, it was one of the most difficult periods in contemporary history of the country. On the other – it was one of the most original. In that period, EDM officially made its entrance upon the stage of popular culture and began shaping the new scene. My explanation sheds light on the fact that a specific space and a particular time allow the authenticity of transposing a certain phenomenon from one context to another. Transposition of worldwide EDM culture in local environment in Serbia resulted in scene development during the 1990s, interesting DJ tracks and live performances. The other authenticity is the concept that led me to research. This concept is mostly inspired by the book “Death of the Image” by philosopher Milorad Belančić, who says that the image today is moved to the level of new screen and digital spaces. The other authenticity offers another interpretation of a work, or an event, while the criterion by which certain phenomena, based on pre-existing material can be noted is to be different, to stand out by their specificity in a new context.

    Review: Roadburn Thursday 19th April 2017 By Sander van den Driesche It’s that time of the year again, the After Yellow Eyes it’s straight to the much anticipated annual pilgrimage to Main Stage to see Dark Buddha Rising Tilburg to join with many hundreds of perform with Oranssi Pazuzu as the travellers for Walter’s party at Waste of Space Orchestra, which is Roadburn. As I get off the train the another highly anticipated show, and in heat kicks me right in the face, what a this case one that won’t be played massive difference to the dull and rainy anywhere else (as far as I know). What morning I left behind in Scotland. This happened on that big stage was is glorious weather for a Roadburn phenomenal, we witnessed a near hour Festival! Bring it on! of glorious drone-infused psychedelic proggy doom. In fact, it felt a bit too early for me personally in the timing of the festival to experience such an extraordinarily mind-blowing set, but it was a remarkable collaboration and performance. I can’t wait for the Live at Roadburn release to come out (someone make it happen please!). Yellow Eyes by Niels Vinck After getting my bearings with the new venues, I enter Het Patronaat for the first of my highly anticipated performances of the festival, Yellow Eyes. But after three blistering minutes of ferocious black metal the PA system seems to disagree and we have our first “Zeal & Ardor moment” of 2018. It’s Waste of Space Orchestra by Niels Vinck not even remotely funny to see the On the same Main Stage, Earthless Roadburn crew frantically trying to played the first of their sets as figure out what went wrong, but luckily Roadburn’s artist in residence.

    Hildegard Transfigured: a medieval trance for the 21st century Hildegard Transfigured is a collaborative piece of concert-theatre by vocal trio Voice, visual artist Innerstrings, and composer Laura Moody that celebrates St. Hildegard of Bingen through song, psychedelic lights, and live visuals. The performance at SJE includes the world premiere of Moody’s Hildegard Portraits. St Hildegard of Bingen (1098 - 1179) joined the monastery in Disibodenberg (in German Rhineland) when she was just eight years old and would stay there for nearly forty years, eventually becoming abbess in 1136. She founded her own abbey at Rupertsberg near Bingen in 1147 and a second monastery in nearby Eibingen in 1165. Throughout her life, Hildegard was a great spiritual leader, theologian, mystic, scientist, and composer. Revered as a saint for centuries, Pope Benedict XVI canonised Hildegard of Bingen on 10 May 2012. Hildegard experienced intense visions, recorded in her major work Scivias (Know the Way), (1141-51), and it is this aspect of her life that the collaboration with visual artist, Innerstrings, will bring to life in Hildegard Transfigured, transfiguring her beautiful music into a new sensory experience. Laura Moody’s research for the show brought her to The Personal Correspondence of Hildegard of Bingen, translated by Joseph L Baird and Radd K Ehrman (OUP 2006). She has set extracts and fragments of Hildegard’s letters in her composition Hildegard Portraits, written especially for this programme. You will hear Moody's music interspersed throughout in the form of miniatures, culminating in the finale The Living Light. “It is some kind of miracle to have the kind of access to a female creator of the twelfth century that we have with Hildegard, her output only having been permissible during her lifetime because of her sacred status.

    Cross-Dressing to Backbeats: The Status of the Electroclash Producer and the Politics of Electronic Music Feature Article David Madden Concordia University (Canada) Abstract Addressing the international emergence of electroclash at the turn of the millenium, this article investigates the distinct character of the genre and its related production practices, both in and out of the studio. Electroclash combines the extended pulsing sections of techno, house and other dance musics with the trashier energy of rock and new wave. The genre signals an attempt to reinvigorate dance music with a sense of sexuality, personality and irony. Electroclash also emphasizes, rather than hides, the European, trashy elements of electronic dance music. The coming together of rock and electro is examined vis-à-vis the ongoing changing sociality of music production/ distribution and the changing role of the producer. Numerous women, whether as solo producers, or in the context of collaborative groups, significantly contributed to shaping the aesthetics and production practices of electroclash, an anomaly in the history of popular music and electronic music, where the role of the producer has typically been associated with men. These changes are discussed in relation to the way electroclash producers Peaches, Le Tigre, Chicks on Speed, and Miss Kittin and the Hacker often used a hybrid approach to production that involves the integration of new(er) technologies, such as laptops containing various audio production softwares with older, inexpensive keyboards, microphones, samplers and drum machines to achieve the ironic backbeat laden hybrid electro-rock sound.
