But two DigiTrack Reviews... page 6 factors stood out to me that were in its control, Noize Suppressor Interview... page 8 “elitism” and “moshing.” Th e Visual Art of Trauma... page 9 Some hardcore afi cionados in the 1990’s Q&A w/ CIK, CAP, YOKE1... page 10 would denounce things as “not hardcore enough,” Darkmatter 14 Years... page 12 “soft ,” etc. Th is sort of elitism was 100% anti- thetical to the rave idea that generated hardcore. Next, we move onto the Los Angeles delegates, Symtek outdoors, and Delu- sion indoors, a ruthless blend of Raw Hardstyle and Mainstream Hardcore sounds. Later that aft ernoon, there’s more people, more sun, more BPM as Los Angeles keeps picking up the pace on the Outdoor Stage while Phoenix dele- gates are insidiously making their way onto the stages. DJ Phox is the fi rst we see on the inside, bringing the Hardstyle sounds, perfectly paving the way for the AZ heavyweights, DJ CIK, Cap, and K.O.R.E. of the Arizona Hardcore Junkies on the outdoor stage—the highlight of the day. Th e summer temperatures have reached their peak, and hundreds of thousands of people are traveling from all over the world to arrive in one of the hottest cities in the US—Las Vegas, Nevada; the infamous and notorious “City of Sin”—to indulge in their deepest-rooted vices and enjoy the summer spec- tacles. Th ere are a select few however that have arrived looking for their mecca, their celestial home away from home, the meeting ground for delegates from all over the nation, to come together to embrace and empower the US Hardcore scene. Th is mecca has become known 4 ELECTRIC DAISY CARNIVAL year, with artists like Brennan Heart, Da Tweekaz, LAS VEGAS 2015, BASSCON TNT, and Ran-D (just to name a few). You almost couldn’t leave the area without missing something. After the disintegration of Yugoslavia in 1991 to the moment of the official end of communism in 2000, Serbia was experiencing turbulent situations. On one hand, it was one of the most difficult periods in contemporary history of the country. On the other – it was one of the most original. In that period, EDM officially made its entrance upon the stage of popular culture and began shaping the new scene. My explanation sheds light on the fact that a specific space and a particular time allow the authenticity of transposing a certain phenomenon from one context to another. Transposition of worldwide EDM culture in local environment in Serbia resulted in scene development during the 1990s, interesting DJ tracks and live performances. The other authenticity is the concept that led me to research. This concept is mostly inspired by the book “Death of the Image” by philosopher Milorad Belančić, who says that the image today is moved to the level of new screen and digital spaces. The other authenticity offers another interpretation of a work, or an event, while the criterion by which certain phenomena, based on pre-existing material can be noted is to be different, to stand out by their specificity in a new context.

The study intended to critically review the literature surrounding festivals and festival marketing theories, in order to provide conclusions supported by theory when evaluating the effectiveness of the promotional strategies. It aimed to discover how modern or digital marketing affected Green Man’s promotional techniques, to assess any identified promotional techniques and identify any connections with marketing theory, to investigate how they promote the festival towards their target market, and to finally provide recommendations for futuristic methods of promotion. The dissertation was presented coherently, consisting of five chapters. The first chapter was the introduction, providing a basic insight into the topics involved. The second contains a critical literature review where key themes were identified; the third chapter discussed the methodology used whilst the fourth chapter presents the results that were discovered, providing an analysis and discussion. The final chapter summarises the study, giving recommendations and identifying any limitations of the study.

    “Praying Angrily” Psalm 69 Erica Cooper Assistant Minister August 4, 2019 The Ninth Sunday of Pentecost In 1993 I attended my very first rock concert. Or concerts, I should say. In the early 90’s Lollapalooza was a budding 4-day outdoor music festival touring the U.S. with top billing bands like Sonic Youth, the Breeders and Green Day. I was thirteen years old, still in middle school, and really had no business being there, but I had some older high school friends who invited me to go, with their mom chaperoning in the background of course. It was hot and humid that day, as is always the case in Atlanta in July. I had been chugging water all afternoon to stay hydrated, and soon needed to use the bathroom. Between bands, I took my friend Nori with me as we headed out on a thirty-minute journey across the field, weaving a bobbing through 20,000 sweaty, sunburned Gen-Xers. We made it to the bathroom finally, and were delighted that the next band had not yet gone on stage, we didn’t miss out on anything. So we headed back across the field to our area where the rest of our friends were. But, somewhere in the middle of our journey, Nori and I lost one another. I looked around but couldn’t find her, and at this same time, another band started to play, so I stopped where I was to listen. This band was unfamiliar to me, a band called Rage Against the Machine. At first I didn’t notice the group of 20- something shirtless men gathering around me.

    SATAN’S TRANCE MEDIA & MAGIC FINAL EXAM https://vimeo.com/55339082 COLLEEN VIANA 12/11/12 Sensation can be defined as the mediation of body and world. It enforces and impacts a premonition of what our bodies experience upon some type of contact. Thus, it allows the body to be opened up to other forces and becomings that affirm in and as the future. This concept, posed by Elizabeth Grosz in Chaos, Territory, Art: Deleuze and the Framing of the Earth, is quite eminent in the subject of magic. The quandry of it as the mediation of object and experience, or science and religion, is what drew me to this video experimentation of the mediations created by media in occult and horror film. While sensation is, perhaps, the only state of consciousness that is impossible to scientifically measure, as are the limits of magic, I find it more valuable to visually see how it can be created/manipulated. The juxtaposition of horror film/television clips, and electronic music (with cosmological and haunting characteristics), and documentary footage from raves/electronic music festivals (that possess qualities of the occult) is experimented in this project. The latter adds an extra layer to this research, paralleling a cultural music phenomenon with the magical representations and rites defined by Mauss. With these media devices combined, I hope to embody this sensory experience that Grosz explains “as the contraction of vibrations...the forces of becoming-other” (Grosz, 80-1). Essentially, how can we experience Hollywood-defined magic and the magic associated with music and rave culture differently? In this video montage, I aim to highlight the three components of magic presented in Mauss’ A General Theory of Magic, in relation to the electronic dance music (EDM) culture.

    Copenhagen Business School 2014 MSoc.Sc.Service Management MASTER’S THESIS Sponsorship Effects on Music Festival Participants Victor Guedon David Gramm Kristensen February, 5th, 2014 Supervisor Helle Haurum 111 Pages / 267.755 Characters Abstract While worldwide investments in sole sponsorship fees were expected to reach $53.3 billion in 2013, findings from the academic research on sponsorships’ ability to impact customers’ perception of a sponsor are inconsistent; ranging from positive, small or ambiguous effects to negative or no effects at all. Thus, the objective of the current research was to contribute by researching if participation in a music festival, NorthSide 2013, would influence festival participants’ perception of the main sponsor Royal Beer. To do so, the chosen research design was a pre-post event quasi experimental design with independent samples. It was crucial to have both pre and post event measurements of event participants to investigate a potential change. Moreover, the quasi-experimental strategy was deemed relevant since it features the use of a control group to identify the source of an effect. Identified as one of the reasons for the inconsistent academic findings, the aim was to avoid conscious processing of the respondents by eliciting sponsorships or the two entities together, so that answers collected would account for the effects rather than respondents’ opinions about how this sponsorship affected them. In pursuance of this research several practical steps have been undertaken: a thorough literature review, a face-to-face interview of the Royal Beer brand manager, creation of a beer brand personality scale fitted to the Danish setting, a focus group to translate the brand personality facets and most importantly; the design and data collection of three distinct questionnaires that resulted in a total of 950 valid responses.
