ABBorr2 ABSTRACT: Peleophycus multiprocarpium is described as a genus and species new to the red algal family Gloiosiphoniaceae (Cryptonemiales), in which a given supporting cell may bear one or more carpogonial branches and one to several auxiliary cell branches. Though several gonimoblasts could thus be formed on the same supporting cell, this condition has not been observed. Nonetheless it suggests a possible phylogeneticpathway from less complicated to more complex relationships of reproductive branches. In its structure of reproductive organs, Peleophycus seems most closely related to Gloeophycus, described from Korea and northwestern Japan. Peleophycus is one of several new genera and species that occurred in an unexpected subtidal (ca. 10-12 m depth) spring marine flora in the subtropics off Hawaii. Abstract: The present report presents the surveys of marine flora 2013 – 2014 in the San Ignacio Lagoon of the, representing the 50% of planned visits and in where we were able to identifying 19 species of macroalgae to the area plus 2 Seagrass traditionally cited. The analysis of the number of species / distribution of macroalgae and seagrass is in progress using an intense review of literature who will be concluded using the last field trip information in May-June 2014. During the last two years we have not been able to find large abundances of species of microalgae as were described since 2006 and the floristic lists developed in the 90's. This added with the presence to increase both coverage and biomass of invasive species which makes a real threat to consider. -

Abbott1 Summary Dumontia contorta (Gmelin) Ruprecht is the earliest available name for the widely distributed northern hemisphere red alga, D. incrassata (Muller) Lamouroux, which has also been incor- rectly known as D. filiformis (Hornemann) Greville and D. filiformis (Lyngbye) J. Agardh. The genus Duimontia (Dumontiaceae, Cryptonemiales) was created by Lamouroux (1813: 133), with four species included, D. incrassata, D. sobolifera, D. ventricosa, and D. triquetra. Of these, only D. incrassata (Muller) Lamouroux is retained in the genus as currently understood, and must be considered as the residual lectotype species of the genus. -

The MAAT approach used DNA sequence data as a first pass to assess species diversity followed by additional study including detailed morphological observations to delimit species. In addition, type specimen sequencing was conducted to apply existing species names to genetic groups. Four Bossiella species were recognised in the eastern Pacific Ocean based on morphology, but a genetic screen using a DNA barcode marker, mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COI-5P), showed 17 genetic species groups. Due to the large number of species requiring taxonomic assessment, we focused this study on species with predominantly dichotomous branching, that is, the recognised morphospecies B. californica and B. orbigniana. DNA sequences from three loci, psbA, rbcL and COI-5P, resolved five species: B. californica, B. dichotoma, B. schmittii, Bossiella heteroforma sp. nov. and B. orbigniana (the only species with a type locality not in the northeast Pacific). Morphology alone was an inadequate discriminator of these species, but incorporating distribution and habitat data facilitated identification of some species without DNA sequencing. -

DOI: 10.2216/09-46.1 This paper contains the first reports of Veleroa magneana in the Atlantic Ocean, Chylocladia schneideri outside of its type locality in Puerto Rico, and Verdigellas peltata and Cladocephalus luteofuscus from shallow water. Also reported are new northern limits of distribution for Chondria leptacremon, Dasya antillarum, Laurencia caraibica, Lomentaria corallicola, Myriogramme prostrata and Udotea caribaea as well as the first four mentioned. Fertile gametophytes are documented for Ptilothamnion speluncarum for the first time from the type locality. Molecular evidence shows that Halymenia pseudofloresii, a species with its type locality in Bermuda, is sister to Halymenia floresii, the generitype, in the present analysis. More critically, molecular data establish that H. pseudofloresii has a broad range of morphological variation encompassing that displayed by true H. -

These orders are mainly distinguished by .detaiis of repro- ductlon, although vegetative features are commonly also of significance. The male reproductive organs of the Florideae are less known than either the female or the tetrasporic ones. The character of the male reproductive organ will throw light on the question of systematic relationships, since these have so far been mainly determined on the characters of the female and tetrasporic plants. From 1953 to 1962 the writer has been systematica}ly studying the male repro- ductive organs of the Florideae under the guidance of Prof. Y. YAMADA in the Botanical Institute, Faculty of Science, Hokkaido University. The present work was carried out to clariiy in detail the development and structure oi the male reproductive organs in some species of F!orideae.
