PRESS KIT Brussels, 17th April 2013 Fête de l'Iris 2013 “See you on 4th and 5th May next for the Fête de l’Iris ! This key occasion in Brussels life reminds us how proud we can be of our identity and reveals the wonderful treasures and joie de vivre of our Region. » Charles Picqué Minister-President of the Government of the Brussels-Capital Region The Brussels-Capital Region celebrates Europe and unveils a new image to the general public On 4th and 5th May 2013, the Brussels-Capital Region celebrates its 24 summers. The perfect opportunity to reaffirm its identity, hopes and ambitions. This key occasion in Brussels life reminds the people of Brussels how proud they can be of belonging here and shows visitors the wonderful treasures and joie de vivre of our Region. « be.brussels » The new «be.brussels» brand, chosen by the Region for its communication purposes, emphasises the role of the federal capital of the Brussels Region by adding the «be» of Belgium, thus symbolising the coming- together, coexistence and ongoing cooperation of the three national communities throughout the region. But «be» also reminds us of the opening-up of Brussels onto Europe and the rest of the world. From summer 2014, this new brand will also become the Internet address of the Region. Therefore, the Web extension «.brussels» will, gradually, towards the middle of next year, replace «.be» for all the key regional players as well as for all those who, whether business enterprises or individuals, wish to associate their name with that of their region. The iris, flower of the marshlands where Brussels came into being The Fête de l’Iris is the opportunity for the Region to highlight its creativity, sociability and incredible cultural effervescence! For two days, the Mont des Arts district will play host to free shows, organised activities, workshops and concerts. This year, the Fête de l'Iris joins forces with Europe Day, which takes place the same weekend, adopting the theme of "Brussels and Europe". Place des Palais concerts Saturday 4th May 2013 19 : 00 The Annarbor Rock and pop galore from this Belgian band, whose latest album "Fireworks", released in February this year, is a big hit. A powerful, slightly rasping, captivating voice. A guitar sometimes folk (I want to slow down), sometimes pop (Satellite Wings). Thrilling piano playing, a double bass for warmth, and assertive drums. Some whistling that makes us want to hit the deserted roads of America in search of adventure. Bound for Ann Arbor, a small town in Michigan : geographical and musical influences very much in evidence. 20 : 30 The Hooverphonic with Orchestra This cult Belgian band has pulled off rock, pop and trip hop. After 15 years at the top of their game, two platinum records and the Ultratop Download Award in 2012, Alex Callier, Raymond Geerts and Noémie Wolfs are realising their dream: to give their music the dimension it deserves by performing it with a big symphony orchestra. A gigantic concert in prospect. Sunday 5th May 2013 18 : 00 Le Grand Jojo Le Grand Jojo embodies a certain idea of ‘belgitude’ : fond of a laugh and full of fun, out of step with our rather gloomy times. He reminds us advisedly of the lighter side of life. After practising a series of different occupations, commercial artist and strip cartoonist, juke box salesman, record shop owner and musician, he began producing atmospheric songs in the early seventies and it was then that the character of the Grand Jojo was born. Many hits followed with popular songs and superb tangos with surreal and offbeat lyrics. With his album "Grand Best Of" in the Top 10 best-selling records for several weeks, he’s making a successful comeback with his big hits rooted in the collective unconscious, such as ‘On a soif’, ‘Jules César’, ‘Victor le footbaliste’ and ‘E viva Mexico'. 20 : 00 MisterCover A band that takes you on a journey through the world of Rock, Soul, French chanson and Pop from the fifties to the present-day.
