S. Dharan PRESIDENT JOTTINGS It was another exciting week of fellowship and meetings in August, starting with our weekly meeting on the 11th. Membership Director Rajiv shared with us our internal survey data on the health of our club. Overall, I am happy to report a happy and healthy club striving to further improve. A visiting Rotarian was fascinated by our findings and requested we share our key learnings with them, which we were happy to provide. Next, Vice President Nicholas took to the stage to talk about his line of work as well as how Rotary seems to run in his blood from the days of his grandfather who founded the Rotary Club of Kuching. Unexpectedly, Dorsett Hotel suffered a power outage half way into Rajiv’s presentation, which lasted until the meeting was over. Nevertheless, Rajiv finished his presentation in darkness without a flinch. Similarly, VP Nicolas was cool to go through his entire presentation calmly. I was impressed and proud by how professional they can be. On our second meeting of the week on Tuesday 18th August, we had Ms Renu Bhaskaran addressing issues generally over- looked in society, viz. financial abuse of the elderly. She showed examples of how elderly people were taken hostage by their own family and how such victims were reluctant to report such abuse when confronted by the authorities. This is an issue widely overlooked as laws and regulations cannot be applied if victims refuse to testify. Ms Bhaskaran appears as a soft- spoken lady, but we could feel her passion on the subject as soon as she spoke. Indeed, she appears to be a good candidate for Rotary membership! The following week’s evening meeting had Mr. Stephen Fernando as Guest Speaker. Like Ms Bhaskaran, he projected an image of a soft- spoken man, but when he took to the rostrum, he brought us all to tears with laughter. With just a few slides he had us laughing through a spectrum of issues from martial arts, politics, smoking to prevent dengue to space landing on the Sun ‘at night’. Stephen fitted in well with our expectation of a good evening fellowship once a month. I definitely encourage more members to attend and enjoy our fun filled evening meetings. I PRESIDENT JOTTINGS Our club major for the month was fellowship at my fish Culturally, I always had the habit of not troubling farm at Semenyih.
