Wilhelm Mundle Vorbemerkung Wilhelm Friedrich Mundle wurde am 28. April 1892 als Sohn des Missionsinspektors Gottlob Mundle in Stuttgart geboren. Nach dem Studium der Theologie und Geschichte in Tübingen, Berlin und vor allem Marburg und dem Kriegsdienst 1915-1917 promovierte er bei Adolf Jülicher. Nach der anschließenden Habilitation war Mundle 1919-1925 als Dozent für neutestamentliche Theologie an der Universität Marburg tätig und wurde 1925 noch zum a. o. Professor ernannt. Er trat dann in den Pfarrdienst als Hilfsprediger in Eller-Wersten und amtierte seit 1927 als Pfarrer in Marxloh. 1942 wechselte er nach Boppard. 1961 trat er in den Ruhestand und zog wieder nach Marburg, wo er am 20. Dezember 1971 verstarb. Aus seiner 1923 geschlossenen Ehe mit der Ärztin Hanna Meinhof gingen vier Töchter hervor. Der Bestand umfaßt den Zeitraum 1907-1971 (mit einigen Vorstücken bis 1884 und Korrespondenzteilen der Witwe bis 1988). Er wurde vom Unterzeichnenden geordnet und verzeichnet und wird nun als Depositum im Archiv der EKiR in Boppard aufbewahrt. Theologiegeschichtlich interessant sind vor allem die Vorlesungen, Publikationen und Korrespondenzen Mundles aus den 1920er Jahren. Mundle machte sich als Paulus-Kenner einen Namen, wobei er sich zu einem scharfen Antagonisten Rudolf Bultmanns entwickelte. Zahlreiche Predigten dokumentieren den Pfarralltag vor allem aus der Bopparder Zeit und auch die privaten Seiten seiner Biographie gewinnen durch die erhaltenen umfänglichen Korrespondenzteile deutliche Konturen. Die zahlreichen Briefe seines Vaters Gottlob Mundle befinden sich in dessen Nachlass ebenfalls im Bopparder Archiv. -

The first is the Worshipful Company of Arts Scholars, which in February became the 110th Livery Company in the City of London. It was begun in 2005 as the Guild of Arts Scholars and its membership includes those engaged in the study, curation, collection and trade in antiques, antiquities and objects of decorative and applied art, as well as in associated support businesses such as restoration and conservation, insurance, event organisation, tax and legal advice, packing and shipping. On their website at http://www.artsscholars.org there are reports and photographs of their events past and future, many of which portray formal dinners. They raise charitable funds and encourage appreciation and knowledge of the decorative arts, fostering future excellence through scholarship, and provide a number of educational awards up to about £1,500 a year, as well as supporting publications, exhibitions and other projects. Also in February this year, the Institute for Archaeologists was granted a Royal Charter of Incorporation. Their objective is to act as the professional body for archaeologists, and so their petition focused on showing that they already offer the components of any professional body seeking recognition: accrediting individuals and organisations, measuring compliance with standards, and investigating allegations of unprofessional practice, all through demonstrably robust and fair processes. -

A Playground’s Outdoor Design Helps Children Play with Water Atelier Dreiseitl Children area, Buga, Koblenz, Germany; photo Buga Koblenz GmbH/Guth A Playground paradise for children of all ages featuring DuPont™ Corian® solid surface, Koblenz, Germany Between April 15 to October 16, 2011, Germany’s National Garden Show (Bundesgartenschau 2011) in Koblenz invited children to explore a variety of playgrounds in the park. Many of them were planned as a permanent site and will continue to remain open. One of the areas of the park which is near the “Deutsches Eck,” an artificial promontory near the river Rhine, is dedicated to the topic of water in its many forms. The park was split into different themed areas ensuring that children, teenagers, and all visitors were able to experience water in its different moods. A dynamic splash of color was created in the water park area by using DuPont™ Corian® for the wind roses, spheres, and slide elements featured in the different playing stations. “Water is everywhere at “Deutsches Eck,” the junction of the two rivers Moselle and Rhine.” Gerhard Hauber, from the architectural office Dreiseitl in Überlingen, explained the concept of this particular water playground, by asking the question “How can the visitor be challenged? He states “it was our aim to develop an area where all our visitors could experience the central features of rivers and water. At the same time we wanted to inform and educate all children about this scarce resource: water.” The water playgrounds included dramatic leaping fountains, completely calm surfaces and many other features such as weirs, waterwheels and water channels with vortexes, so that the children could enjoy themselves in a safe environment. -
Castles Along the Rhine; the Middle Rhine
CASTLES ALONG THE RHINE; THE MIDDLE RHINE The Middle Rhine is between Mainz and Cologne (or Köln) but the section of maximum interest for river cruisers is between Koblenz and Rűdesheim. This section is where they keep some of Germany’s best kept medieval keeps - 20 of them, some ruins, some preserved, all surrounded by vineyards and with quaint medieval towns. Around every bend another stone edifice stands watch over the endless parade of freight barges and cruise boats. Each castle has its own spot in Germany’s medieval past. Your river cruise will spend at least an afternoon cruising this section with everyone on deck with a cup of bullion, tea, coffee or a beverage depending on the weather and the cruise director providing commentary on each castle/town you pass. The Rhine gorge castles are bracketed by Germanic / Prussian monuments. At the south end is Rűdesheim with the Niederwalddenkmal monument, commemorating the foundation of the German “Empire” after the Franco- Prussian War. The first stone was laid in 1871, by Wilhelm I. The 38m (123 ft) monument represents the union of all Germans. The central figure is a 10.5 m (34 ft) Germania holding the crown of the emperor in the right hand and in the left the imperial sword. Beneath Germania is a large relief that shows emperor Wilhelm I riding a horse with nobility, the army commanders and soldiers. On the left side of the monument is the peace statue and on the right is the war statue. At the north end in Koblenz is Deutsches Eck (German Corner) where the Mosel and Rhine Rivers meet. -
