The merging of Akron’s first two Catholic schools, St. Mary and St. Vincent, is portrayed in the official crest of STVM. Featured in gold on a green background are a cross, a torch, and a plow and sword. The cross symbolizes the religious foundation of the school. The torch, symbolizing learning, differs from traditional designs in that it is held by two hands, one representing each school. The plow and sword symbolize commitment to social justice and were part of the crest of the late Bishop Clarence Issenman, who directed the formation of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. 15 North Maple Street, Akron, Ohio 44303 Phone 330.253.9113 • Fax 330.996.0020 Page 3 Page 4 St. Vincent-St. Mary 2019 | ADMINISTRATION & MINISTRY Thomas M.
