KERALA Patent Information Centre (PIC -Kerala),under Kerala State CouQcilfqr Science,Technology aQdEnvironment (KSCSTE) started functioning since 2003 as a satellite centre for Technology Information Fc.>recastingand Assessme.nt Coun.etl (TIFAC).The Centre aims to increase the Intellectual Property output of the State by facilitating and guiding patenting activitieSwithinthestate.The major objectives of the Centre are to create awareness among the people on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR,)through educational workshops, seminars, lectures, tal~s and' exhibitions, and thus nurturing research scholars, scientists,professionals,industrialists, students aQdgrass root innovators. The Centre also provides technical and legalassistance for filingPatents, techrticaland .financialassistaQcefor organiZing IPRawareness programmes, facilitates access to Patent related documents such as Patent laws,rules and amendments, and Patent. database search through online and CD-ROM databases. ACHIEVEMENTS ,.", .1 Patent Information 'Centre - Kerala, so far organized 46 lPR awareness programmes, in association with Govt. Departments/ Universities/R &Dlnstitut.ions /Industry / InstitutioQs etc. Since its inception, PIC -Kerala had received SOapplications for filingPatents. Prior art Patent database search provided in these applications. Among them, 16 applications were forwarded to TIFAC for further filing procedures. Six applicati.ons were selected for filing Patents. A one dayWorkshop on IPRin Biotechnology was organizedby PIC..Kerala.inassociation with RajivGandhi Centre for Biotechnology at Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology,Trivandrum on 3rd September 2003. Seventh Interactive Meeting of PateQtlQformatioQ Centre's Patoot Information Centre - Kerala organized the seventh interactive meeting of Patent Information Centres at Hotel Samudra, Trivandrum from 9th - 11th March 2005.The then H9h'ble Chief Minister;Shri.Oomen Chandf inaugurated the function. Dr.Saha,Advisor,Department of. Science and Technology & Chairman - PFC,TIFACdelivered the keynote address. Representatives of all PI<:s of different States in India participated in it. Later, a follow up meeting of Protection of GI on Pokkali Rice was organized on 25th May2006. Workshop on Patents PIC-Kerala organized a two day 'National Workshop on Patent Issues- its Rules & Regulations, Rights,Limitations &Applications' in association with National Institute of Personal Management (NIPM) at Mascot Hotel, Trivandrum on 20th & 21 st June 2006. The Hon'ble Minister for Health, Smt. Sreemathi Teacher inaugurated the - Workshop. " -~ PIC-Kerala organized a one day National Seminar on IPR and Higher Education in association with Mar Ivanios College at Trivandrum on I6th August 2006. InteractiveWorkshop on IPRthrough EDUSAT PIC-Kerala in association with IT@ School Project and Directorate of Technical Education organized a one day Interactive Workshop on IPRawareness through Edusat at Gorky Bhavan, Trivandrum on 17th October 2006. Dr. M .K. Ramachandran Nair (sitting in the middle), Vice Chancellor, University of Kerala, inaugurated the function. The programme waS launched from Gorky Bhavan and broadcasted to 18 Engineering Colleges in the ~ -- State havingsatellite interactive terminals.
