We are honored to have him join us this year to kick off the 12th Annual Connecticut Catholic Men’s Conference. Bishop Betancourt will bring his knowledge of scripture and spirituality in his opening talk, setting the table as it were for the rest of the day, enlightening us as to what our path to holi- ness entails, what are the challenges that we face, and how to overcome them. But becoming a saint is the whole purpose of your existence. Based on his book, Navigating the Interior Life: Spiritual Direction and the Journey to God, Dan will talk about the universal call to holiness, prayer, and the three Ways of the Interior life (stages of growth and how to get through them). Dan reveals why so many saints were religious and specific prac- tices that religious use to help in their spiritual growth that help them to say “yes” to God and how they can be easily applied to non-religious alike. The objectives and directions for timing your nailing prowess are posted there. Using manly hammers, it is a test of skill! The fastest time to sink 3 nails will compete onstage against our CCMC Chaplain, for- mer carpenter, Fr. James Sullivan, using a one-of-a-kind golden hammer for the final contest. The winner receives their picture with Father on stage. Through- out the day, men will receive unique, donated CCMC logo t-shirts as they are shot out of an air cannon from the stage. Biography of Bishop Juan Miguel Betancourt, SEMV Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, in 1970, Bishop Betancourt is the son of Mi- guel and Gloria Betancourt. He is a member of the Society of the Servants of the Eucharist and Mary (Esclavos de la Eucaristia y de Maria Virgen), which he joined after graduation from college. He has served as Vicar Gen- eral of the community. Bishop Betancourt was ordained a priest on April 21, 2001. At the time of his appoint- ment as Auxiliary Bishop of Hartford, he was serving on the faculty of The St. Paul Seminary School of Divinity in St. Paul, Minnesota, as Vice Rector of Formation, Associate Academic Dean and Assistant Professor of Sacred Scripture, and as the Pastor of the Church of St. Francis de Sales of St. Paul in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico with a Bachelor in Natural Sciences, and received a Master of Divinity degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico in Ponce.
