CONFRO 2021 DAY TWO - 29 JUNE Iona was disappointed to see an early closure to Confro 2021 following the Queensland Government’s lockdown announcement yesterday morning. We would like to thank all the players, coaches, referees, officials and volunteers who have all contributed to a fabulous (and memorable) carnival. You have all ‘let your light shine’! Please stay safe and well. QISSRL MESSAGE - TUESDAY 29 JUNE 2021 The 2021 Confraternity Carnival was cancelled yesterday due to the COVID-19 lockdown in southeast Queensland. The Carnival ended after the completion of the final boys’ pool matches. The final siren sounded at about 12.40pm. The committee of the Queensland Independent Secondary Schools Rugby League made the decision following the Premier’s announcement that a three-day lockdown would begin at 6pm for southeast Queensland and parts of the wider Townsville region. It is with much sadness that we end the Carnival, however the health and safety of our participants is our focus at all times. Schools are urged to decide on their next steps with many different scenarios among the 50 competing schools. Each school will make its own decisions on what’s best for their students and coaching staff. We thank everyone who has worked so hard for this Carnival. We have enjoyed an outstanding three days, beginning with Sunday’s opening Mass and ceremony. Iona College has been a brilliant host. It’s been a wonderful Carnival. The spirit of play across the last two days has been outstanding. The Spirit of Confraternity was upheld. While we are unable to play finals matches, we are grateful for the opportunities that more than 1,230 students had to become Confro players. You are now part of the Confro community and will always be part of that community. Travel safely to your destinations. See you at Confro 2022 in Mackay.
