  • Emily Hanrahan Howell Warner
Emily Hanrahan Howell Warner October 30, 1939 - July 3, 2020 Captain Emily Howell-Warner passed away on July 3, 2020. She was preceded in death by son Stanley, husband Julius, brother Jack and his wife Jan. Her surviving family members are brother Dennis Hanrahan (Jeane), brother Miles (Pat) Hanrahan (Delores), and brother Richard (Dick) Hanrehan; sister Eileen Hanrahan Spillane. She also is survived by several stepchildren and their children: John and Carre Warner, David and Kris Warner, Julia and Paul (Cook), Elizabeth and Joe (Cowan), and Suzanne (Hagen). Emily had too many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews to name, although they all referred to her lovingly as "Auntie Em." Born on October 30, 1939, in Denver, Colorado, and graduated from Holy Family High School. At 16, and before learning to drive, Emily embarked on a journey that would earn her a place in history and empower women all over the world to follow their dreams. As a young woman, Emily bought a ticket on Frontier Airlines to visit a friend working in Gunnison, Colorado. During that trip, she was invited into the cockpit to look around, and from that moment, was hooked. She knew she no longer wanted to be a passenger, and she wanted to fly! After that first trip, Emily asked her parents if she could take flying lessons. The Hanrahan's, had six children and could not provide Emily with her coveted flying lessons. Emily, always determined, said, "Don't worry, I will pay for the lessons myself." Both parents agreed, And that is how her now-famous career began.

An inquest into a police shooting near Tailem Bend looked into the death by shooting of Al- exander Kuskoff at his farm on September 17. Kuskoff, 50, had fired guns at police during the five-hour standoff, which ended in him being fatally shot by an officer from a range of 139m. During the standoff, Mr Kuskoff allegedly fired a number of shots at officers and the police helicopter, which had been hovering above the property. The helicopter was forced to move away from the scene and settings on an in-flight recording system were altered, leading to footage of the incident being compromised.

  • 2004 Airline Competition Plan Update
2004 AIRLINE COMPETITION PLAN UPDATE Submitted for the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport On behalf of the Metropolitan Airports Commission February 22, 2004 INTRODUCTION Under the Wendell H. Ford Aviation Investment and Reform Act for the 21st Century, or “AIR- 21”, large and medium hub airports that meet a certain threshold of concentration are required to submit competition plans. The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (“MSP” or “Airport”) meets the standards set out in AIR-21, as it is a large hub airport with more than 50% of its traffic served by a single carrier, Northwest Airlines. In 2001, MAC filed an update to its 2000 Airline Competition Plan to present its ongoing efforts to expand airport facilities necessary for vibrant competition and to secure competitive air service in its major markets. The efforts described in the 2001 Update largely represented MSP market conditions and efforts prior to September 11, 2001. The purpose of the 2004 Update will be to provide information pertaining to post September 11 market conditions at MSP as well as MSP’s post September 11 efforts to foster competition. Therefore, the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) hereby submits this update to the 2000 Airline Competition Plan and 2001 Update. I. AVAILABILITY OF GATES AND RELATED FACILITIES A. Number and identity of any air carriers that have begun providing or stopped service In December 2001, locally based Sun Country Airlines ceased operations after nearly 20 years of successful operations at MSP. The effects of a slumping economy and September 11 took a significant toll on Sun Country’s ability to sustain operations and essentially forced the carrier into Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

  • Poverty Pay and Food Stamps at American Airlines Survey of Passenger Service Agents at American-Owned Envoy Air Reveals Reliance on Public Assistance Programs
Poverty Pay and Food Stamps at American Airlines Survey of passenger service agents at American-owned Envoy Air reveals reliance on public assistance programs Poverty Pay and Food Stamps at American Airlines Survey of passenger service agents at American-owned Envoy Air reveals reliance on public assistance programs Executive summary Envoy Air is a wholly-owned subsidiary of American Airlines, the largest passenger airline in the United States. Envoy employs more than 3,800 passenger service agents whose responsibilities range from guiding planes on the tarmac to de-escalating tense situations among customers. Envoy agents work at some of the nation’s biggest and busiest airports as well as smaller regional airports that connect flyers to travel destinations around the country. Wages for Envoy agents are among the lowest in the airline industry and start as low as $9.48 an hour. Many agents say they must rely on public assistance programs because of the low pay. This report explores the use of public assistance and the effects of low wages among Envoy passenger service agents, drawing on data from a survey of 900 employees across the country, as well as first-hand accounts of their experiences. The online survey was conducted by the agents’ union, the Communications Workers of America (CWA). Approximately one quarter of all Envoy agents participated. The survey’s major findings include: » Twenty-seven percent of survey participants reported relying on public assistance to meet the needs of their household » Food stamps were reported as the most commonly- used type of public assistance (20 percent of all survey participants) The Communications Workers of America (CWA) represents 700,000 » Among agents not receiving public assistance, 82 percent workers in private and public sector of respondents said they rely on help from family and employment in the United States, friends, often in the form of financial assistance, childcare Canada and Puerto Rico.
