EG Kight Five-Time WC Handy Nominee! EG KIGHT Singer Songwriter Guitar Player Entertainer The recipient of the 2013 Georgia Music Legend Award, which honors people from Georgia who have contributed to the state's musical heritage, EG Kight is honored to represent her home state, bringing her diverse musical menu to the fans at clubs, theaters, festivals and corporate events across America and in Europe. Kight has been nominated for the 2015 Blues Music Awards Koko Taylor Award, she landed on the AXS.com list of Top 5 Best Blues Artists of 2014, and her latest album landed on the Blues Bytes 2014 Top 10 Albums list, and the Roots Music Report's Top 100 Blues Album Chart for 2014. She was also nominated for two Blues Blast awards, and has had six previous Blues Music Awards nominations, twice for Song of the Year. Many artists have recorded her songs, and she’s had songs on two Grammy-nominated albums, and on two compilations that maintained Billboard chart positions for over a year. Kight’s style transcends musical boundaries. With a blend of americana, southern rock, blues, pop, jazz, gospel and funk, Kight continues to help shape contemporary blues. Early in her career Kight was dubbed “The Georgia Songbird,” and today she is considered one of the few true blues vocalists. With a rich and velvety voice that’s been compared to a cross between Phoebe Snow and Bonnie Raitt, and a mastery of the guitar that has her holding her own next to any other player, Kight mesmerizes audiences of all ages, as a solo, a duo (as the Peach Pickin’ Mamas), and with her Blue South band. And Taylor Guitars proudly provides her with the tools of her trade. In recent years, Kight has shared the stage with artists across the genres, such as B.B. King, Gregg Allman, Phoebe Snow, Merle Haggard, Little Feat, Lee Roy Parnell, and Delbert McClinton. Americana/blues artist Lisa Biales tapped Kight to produce two albums, and Biales’s 2013 release, “Belle of the Blues” was nominated for a Blues Blast Award for Acoustic Album of the Year. Kight has been involved in international fundraising in Germany, Japan, and Mexico, and did a brief tour in the states with her German band. She has appeared on NPR’s A Prairie Home Companion, and an original song from her segment was re-broadcast on the Listener’s Choice Program. Her original songs have appeared on the Children’s Miracle Network, Nick at Nite, and on ABC Family’s “The Fosters.” And one of her photographs was licensed for the cover of a book about the life and times of Robert Johnson. Kight is grateful to be alive, and to continue making music. A near-death illness a few years back transformed her music into a more positive shade of blue. The songs she writes now come from a deeper place, with a broader reach. “A New Day,” released in September to rave reviews, debuted at #9 on the Living Blues Chart. This album infuses her “country-flavored southern-fried blues” with a little gospel to create her most inspiring venture to date. Personable and charming, EG engages the audience with true southern hospitality and steals their hearts like a first love, and leaves them feeling like they’ve just walked down a country road with an old friend.” - Joe Leverence, Baker Allegan Studios/Griswold Auditorium, Allegan, MI “EG is an amazing singer, performer and storyteller! We fell in love with her and her voice when she played at an employee appreciation event for us. It was the best reward for our employees – we were mesmerized! And, if that weren’t enough, she is downright genuine and has the best heart. We enjoyed her so much that we’ve had her back twice in six months.” - Dana More, Luke Family of Brands, Hobart, IN “EG Kight is a unique blend of southern comfort and down home goodness. Her performance invites the audience to come in and sit a spell while she and her band entertain with witty and clever songwriting and top notch musicianship. EG knows how to make her fans feel right at home.” - David Hughes, Spa City Blues Society, Hot Springs, AR “A magical evening in so many ways. Our audience was mesmerized with her voice, her music and her authenticity.“ – Pat Armstrong, Athens Art Council, Athens TN “Her warm personality, humor, and countrified southern blues give her shows a down-home flavor. She’s a fine blues vocalist as well as an excellent guitarist and extraordinary songwriter and entertainer. Her distinctive style, humor, stage presence and band always combine for a great show.” – Gary Anton, Bradfordville Blues Club, Tallahassee, FL “EG Kight played southern-fried, country-flavored, rockin’ and rollin’ blues with an engaging and entertaining stage presence. Her songs are accessible. And her personality is irrepressible. In short, she’s a truly soulful and satisyfing listen.” – Scott Skeabeck, DownTowne Listening Room, Cincinnati, OH “EG has performed at least once at all of our festivals. She has performed both solo and with her band, and our audiences loved her both ways. On top of being a great performer and a true talent, EG Kight is a wonderful person…” – Rags Ragsdell, producer of Eureka Springs, AR Blues Weekend; Gladstone, MO’s SummerTime BluesFest; Springfield, MO’s Greater Ozarks Blues Festival. “A few months ago I booked EG for an event, and it was wonderful getting to know her personally. Recently I hosted a house concert and invited enough people to fill my downstairs. EG delighted the entire audience, and we were all having such a good time that, although she had begun at 7:30, she kept on playing until midnight! One woman told her, “When you sang, it was as if God were speaking right to me through you.” Her lyrics range from bawdy to poignant – some make me laugh; others make me cry. Her voice and her guitar playing are stellar. And besides all that, she’s a wonderful, caring person. I can’t wait to hear her again!” – Karen Claypool, Across the Languages, Chattanooga, TN www.egkightmusic.com EG KIGHT DISCOGRAPHY A NEW DAY Produced by Paul Hornsby and EG Kight Debuted at #9 on the Living Blues Radio Chart. • Warner/Reprise Loss Leaders Booklet
THE WARNER BROS. LOSS LEADERS SERIES (1969-1980) Depending On How You Count Them, 34 Essential Various Artist Collections From Another Time We figured it was about time to pull together all of the incredible Warner Bros. Loss Leaders releases dating back to 1969 (and even a little earlier). For those who lived through the era, Warner Bros. Records was winning the sales of an entire generation by signing and supporting some of music’s most uniquely groundbreaking recording artists… during music’s most uniquely groundbreak- ing time. With an appealingly irreverent style (“targeted youth marketing,” it would be called today), WB was making lifelong fans of the kids who entered into the label’s vast catalog of art- ists via the Loss Leaders series—advertised on inner sleeves & brochures, and offering generous selections priced at $1 per LP, $2 for doubles and $3 for their sole 3-LP release, Looney Tunes And Merrie Melodies. And that was including postage. Yes… those were the days, but back then there were very few ways, outside of cut-out bins or a five-finger discount, to score bulk music as cheaply. Warners unashamedly admitted that their inten- tions were to sell more records, by introducing listeners to music they weren’t hearing on their radios, or finding in many of their (still weakly distributed) record stores. And it seemed to work… because the series continued until 1980, and the program issued approximately 34 titles, by our questionable count (detailed in later posts). But, the oldsters among us all fondly remember the multi-paged, gatefold sleeves and inviting artwork/packaging that beckoned from the inner sleeves of our favorite albums, not to mention the assorted rarities, b-sides and oddities that dotted many of the releases.

  • Randall Bramblett Pine Needle Fire When Singer-Songwriter and Multi
Randall Bramblett Pine Needle Fire When singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Randall Bramblett began compiling the songs that would eventually make up his 12th and newest studio album, Pine Needle Fire, it wasn’t with any particular musical or lyrical direction in mind. But viewed through the lens of the dozen tracks on the now completed set, it’s apparent there was a theme there all along. “I recognize a thread about time passing, or at least grappling with the realization that you don’t have an infinite amount of time left like you think you do when you're young,” says Bramblett, who in addition to his solo work has over the course of his illustrious 40-plus-year career recorded, performed and composed alongside rock luminaries like Steve Winwood, the Allman Brothers, the Band’s Levon Helm, Bonnie Raitt, Widespread Panic and many others. “So there's that mortality part of it. And then another part has to do with our current situation in this country. I grew up protesting in the ‘60s and ‘70s, so I’ve always felt connected to politics. Now I'm really hung up on it. And you look around and there’s a lot of people that are kind of desperate for change and for justice…or maybe they’re just desperate. They’re trying to hang on in this world. I’m one of them. Most of us are, to some degree.” These everyday people populate Pine Needle Fire, on which Bramblett provides a clear-eyed and engagingly detailed study of lives ordinary and unconventional, loves resilient and vanished and moments that have passed and are also yet to come.
