Al Mezan Centre for Human Rights Al Mezan Centre for Human Rights Field Report on Israel’s Attacks on Gaza Violations of international human rights and international humanitarian law committed by the Israeli occupation forces in the reporting period: 14 November 2012 –21 November 2012 1 Introduction In this detailed field report Al Mezan Centre for Human Rights (Al Mezan) reports on military attacks carried out in the Gaza Strip in the period 14 November 2012 – 21 November 2012. The attacks listed were researched and verified by Al Mezan’s team of fieldworkers who are based in each of Gaza’s five districts. The attacks are listed in chronological order. Hostilities commenced with the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) shot dead a 13-year-old boy as he was playing football in the town of Khuza’a in Khan Younis district on 8 November 2012, during an incursion into Gaza that lasted for two days.1 In another IOF attack, at approximately 5 pm on Saturday 10 November 2012, the IOF fired artillery shells at a water reservoir, also in the town of Khuza’a eastern Khan Younis. The reservoir was about 800 meters from the separation fence between Gaza Strip and Israel. The shelling injured 11 Palestinian civilians, including four women and two children. On 10 November 2012, Palestinian fighters fired an anti-tank rocket at an Israeli military jeep, reportedly injuring four Israeli soldiers. The IOF responded immediately by firing artillery shells on a crowd of Palestinian civilians in a wake tent in the east of Gaza City. When the people in the area, including several children who were playing football in a nearby field, went to help the wounded, the IOF fired an artillery shell into the crowd, killing and injuring dozens.2 Hostilities escalated since then and the IOF and by 11 November, the IOF had killed Seven Palestinians; three Children; and Injured 54, including 12 Children.3 On 12 November 2012, a truce was informally announced, but not confirmed. At approximately 15:50 on 14 November 2012, an Israeli airstrike targeted a car in which Ahmed Al- Jaa’bari, 52, leader of Hamas’ military wing was travelling, killing him and his companion, Mohammed Al-Hams. The IOF launched dozens of air and artillery attacks on Gaza during the hours following this attack, killing another five people including: one infant, 11 months; a girl, 3; and a woman, 19. When a ceasefire was negotiated and agreed on, on 21 November 2012, the Israeli attacks on Gaza have had already devastated it. Al Mezan’s monitoring indicates that between 14 November 2012 and 21 November 2012, at least 162 Palestinians have been killed in IOF attacks. Of those, 37 were children and 13 were women. Another 1,039 people were injured, including 315 children and 191 women. At least 963 houses have also been damaged or destroyed, including 92 completely. Of those 92 houses, 52 were directly attacked; including 35 were direct roof-knocking attacks. Another 179 houses sustained serious damages. Moreover, IOF attacks caused varying damages to 10 health centres, 35 schools, 2 universities, 15 NGO offices, 30 mosques, 14 media offices, 92 industrial and commercial facilities, 1 UNRWA food distribution Centre, 8 ministry buildings, 14 police/security stations, 5 banks, 34 vehicles, 3 youth clubs, 3 cemeteries, and 2 bridges.4 Al Mezan stresses that its initial findings, detailed below, provide compelling evidence that IOF attacks on the Gaza Strip included attacks on civilian targets and other attacks which failed to observe the relevant principles of international law. It is also important to note that the IOF’s attacks were carried out in the context of Israel’s closure and naval blockade of the Gaza Strip, which have now been in place for more than five years. The closure and blockade have seriously undermined the provision of essential 1 See http://www.mezan.org/en/details.php?id=15609&ddname=incursion&id_dept=3&id2=9&p=center, 2 See http://www.maannews.net/eng/ViewDetails.aspx?ID=535855. 3 See http://www.mezan.org/en/details.php?id=15632&ddname=IOF&id_dept=9&id2=9&p=center. 4 See As ceasefire holds, more hurt to civilians and civilian objects is revealed, 162 Palestinians killed and 1,039 injured. 2 services in Gaza, especially in the health, water and sanitation sectors. As the new destruction to homes occurred, tens of thousands of Gazans remain displaced as a result of the destruction of property by the IOF and Israel’s ban on the bringing of construction materials into the Gaza Strip. This report details the IOF attacks on the Gaza Strip by district between the period 14 and 21 November 2012. The report aims to provide the media, diplomatic missions and humanitarian organizations with information that will enable interventions aimed at preventing further human rights violations or assisting the affected populations in the Gaza Strip. 3 1. Also, there is a growing concern about many social, economic, physical, environmental and urban problems that have been attributed to many circumstances. Therefore, an exhaustive development process has to be implemented and significant efforts have to be made toward reforming sustainable development. Gaza city is taken as study area to model a new pattern of sustainable urban developmental planning, which supports land use, transportation planning, environment and all fields of growth management. While more empirical evidence is needed to verify cause and effect, and while all urban and technological aspects turn to reshape the starting point in planning process, Transit Oriented Development (TOD) is seen as efficient and energetic trend to resolve the existing hard situations and actualize sustainable urban developmental planning. The thesis defines indicators, strategic transactions and scenarios that support the approach and help decision makers to identify priorities and develop quality of live. Also, it encourages community and stakeholders collaboration in developmental process. Besides, it explores new points for future development suggestions for further researches. The approach toward smart and sustainable urban development, and Transit Oriented Development that presented in this study is different from a transportation planning that envisions a comprehensive and complete plan as the final product of the process.

The number of violations committed by the Israeli occupation authorities/ forces, various Palestinian parties and social media companies against media freedoms in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, including the occupied city of Jerusalem, during the first half of 2021 reached a total of 384 violations, compared to a total of 237 violations documented during the first half of 2020. That is, an increase of 147 violations or 62% over the last year 2020. This increase came as a result of four major events, in which large-scale field confrontations took place in most parts of Palestine, which was accompanied by widespread and violent repression of the media outlets, male and female journalists, in order to obscure the crimes and practices that are taking place on the ground. Social Media Networks… Palestinian Parties… Israeli Occupation 66% VIOLATIONS DURING THE FIRST HALF OF 2021 These events were as follows: First: The Israeli occupation authorities/ forces escalated their attacks in the occupied city of Jerusalem through the displacement decisions that targeted and are still targeting the residents of Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan neighborhoods, and the accompanying provocative incursions into Al- Aqsa Mosque during the blessed month of Ramadan.

  • Hamas and the Terrorist Threat from the Gaza Strip
Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center March, 2010 Hamas and the Terrorist Threat from the Gaza Strip The Main Findings of the Goldstone Report Versus the Factual Findings II Introduction: main findings 1. This document provides the main findings of a study which examined how the Goldstone Report dealt with the nature and activities of Hamas in the Gaza Strip before and during Operation Cast Lead. 2. The first part of the study examines how the Report relates to the terrorist threat as it developed in the Gaza Strip in the years before Operation Cast Lead. The subsequent parts deal with the various aspects of Hamas’ strategy and combat tactics during the operation, emphasizing the massive use it made of Gazan civilians as human shields. The study does not deal with specific cases of IDF actions, which the IDF has examined separately. 3. The study compares the findings of the Goldstone Report with the actual events on the ground. It is supported by a vast amount of reliable, varied information which originated in the Israeli intelligence community, as well as open-source information, including statements made by Hamas elements. 4. The comparison clearly indicates four basic flaws in the way the Goldstone Report relates to the period before Operation Cast Lead: A. The Report does not deal with the nature of Hamas, particularly its terrorist aspects. It focuses on severe criticism of Israel and presents an openly pro- Palestinian version of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It does not deal with Hamas’ ideology, its strategy, the military-terrorist infrastructure it constructed, its radical Islamic nature, the way it relates to the West and the pro-Western Arab regimes, the brutality with which it treats its Palestinian opponents, the direction and aid it receives from its headquarters in Damascus, and its record as the terrorist organization which led suicide bombing terrorism against Israel and fired rockets at its civilians over a period of many years.
