Year 7 Scholarship Students

Callum Hunter Macmillan Coffee Appeal Morning Academy Sports Careers Update HOUSE Reports CHESS COMPETITION Bexhill Beacon 2 3 Bexhill Beacon s the first term came to an end we can certainly say that Scholarship Students Awe have made an excellent start to the new academic Congratulations to 25 students from Year 7 who were awarded Scholarship year. programmes to acknowledge their outstanding ability or talent across a wide range of subjects. Well done to you all. Students came back refreshed and keen to learn. As this Academic Scholars new year began we have experienced yet another great leap forward in the positive attitudes and behaviour demonstrated by our students. Our new Year 7s have made a really good start, all 304 of them! They are demonstrating that they understand the importance of engaging with their learning and are getting to grips with the daily routines of their new school day.

We began the year with GCSE Information Evenings in both Year 10 and 11, and a Settling In Evening for our Year 7 parents. All of which were reasonably well attended, although we would like to see even more parents at these events . Working together in partnership was the focus of these evenings and ensuring that parents are aware of the Music Scholars Drama Scholars challenges that their children would face as this academic Heidi Brown - Principal year progresses.

We are stressing the importance of developing students as ‘independent’ learners. Students need to adopt really good learning habits from Year 7 if they are to be able to achieve their full potential in the new style GCSEs they all face. We have also stressed the importance of doing homework and I would like to remind parents that we do have a homework club which operates Mondays to Thursdays from 2.50 – 4.30pm in the library to support students.

Last Wednesday we held a very successful Open Evening and welcomed over 600 Art Scholars Sports Scholars people to this event. In addition we have also held Open Mornings where prospective parents had the opportunity to have a look around the school during the working day.

As this term draws to a close I would like to remind parents that we have our first set of Mock Exams the week beginning 13 November involving both Yr11 and Yr10 students.
