Vintage Music, Old and New Benefit concerts for and at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House, 819 Main St., Chatham. TUESDAY SUMMER EVENINGS — 7:30 TO 9:30, with open folk jam session afterward. July 7 Polka Dan's Beetbox Band that plays high energy, original, village folk music from southern Poland as well as popular polka favorites. Dan Blajda's family in Poland's beet growing region, has been the village band for generations and composers of wonderful dance music and are renowned throughout the country. Band members: Dan Blajda (bwy'-dah) - violin, lead vocals; Clayton March - clarinet, flute, and tenor banjo; Robin Smith-Johnson - piano; Greg Johnson - Bass. July 14 Tripping Lily, an acoustic folk pop band, who draw their inspira- tion from within, Tripping Lily has deeply explored songwriting with their per- sonal and passionate work. Demetrius Becrelis (ukulele/guitar/vocals), brother Alex Becrelis (mandolin/vocals), Monica Rizzio (fiddle/ukulele/vocals) ,and Laird Boles (stringed bass). July 21 Forest Beach Ceili is a dynamic and exciting Irish tradi- tional band featuring veteran musicians that call Cape Cod home. Their music offers furious reels, powerful song, thoughtful arrangements, and humorous story. Band members: Eugene Clancy - lead vocal, guitar; Rose Clancy - fiddle, mandolin; Mark Oien - fiddle, penny whistle; Clayton March - fiddle, mandolin, banjo; Greg Johnson - guitar; Dan Blajda - bass. July 28 Jacqueline Schwab, Americana and Celtic piano She is heard on twelve of Ken Burns’ PBS documentaries, (‘The War’, ‘The Civil War’, ‘Lewis & Clark’, ‘Baseball’ and ‘Mark Twain,)’ and recently on CBS“Late Night with David Letterman accompanying Scottish singer Jean Redpath, in the words of Ken Burns, “Jacqueline Schwab brings more feeling and intensity to music than anyone I know. Her playing is insistent, physical, heartfelt and ... unusually moving.” August 4 All Worn Out Jug Band The resident folk band of the UU Meeting House, it is a post-revival jug band whose repertoire includes jug-band root music, blues, ragtime, old-time folk music and white-tradition gospel songs. August 11 Denis Meacham and friends Denis was hanging around the folk scene in Green- wich Village in the early 60's with the likes of Dave Van Ronk and Bob Dylan. A founder of the All Worn Out Jug band, he plays guitar, harmonica, mandolin and kazoo and sings up a storm on a variety of material. August 18 Jacqueline Schwab and Willie Sordillo “Soul, Spirit and Step: Vintage American Music for Steinway and Sax” (See July 28 entry for Jacque- line) Willie Sordillo has been performing as a solo artist and as a member of vari- ous ensembles for over 30 years in settings ranging from street corners in Nicara- gua to major festivals, concert halls and churches in the US and beyond. He loves playing with Jacqueline Schwab, whose intense spirit and creative wit bring out sides of his playing which he experiences with no one else. August 25 Billy Hardy and Beth Sweeney Billy Hardy and Beth Sweeney share an evening of music, performing on fiddles, guitar, tenor banjo, keyboard, concertina, musical saw, octave mandolin, and melo- deon, with songs in Irish and English. Their repertoire draws from the Irish, Scottish, French Canadian and the US fiddle traditions. Donation: adults, $12, seniors & students, $8. For info call 508-945-2075. .
