Black Market Brass Fri. 4/24 – Midnight Broken World Records (back room) (21+) , Afrobeat, Brass Band – Minneapolis, MN Drums & horns of all kinds crowd the stage at this 10-piece’s shows. Funk scratches, horn line blasts, trumpet riffs fill the air with a sound smuggled in from somewhere much warmer than here. The congas & bass settle into a groove and let the horn players take turns at making the crowd roar in amazement. Bring your dancing shoes!

They’ve even been known to pay homage to their namesake with the 90s-rap-style dance hit, Wiggle Ya Bones. Jug Band Hokum, a film featuring will be previewed before their performance at the Arts Center.

A hard working member of the Polkadot Mayhem collective, Botzy is a constant collaborator whose banging party tracks feature tongue-in-cheek rhymes that are intermixed with jazzy tunes & earnest lyrics about old love & self destruction.

From Etta James to Paul Westerberg, he has sung and recorded with or for an eclectic bunch. His crack 3-piece band likes to play them loud and as No Depression claims, ride “a sturdy cross between and .”

Imagine a jazzed-up version of a parade band, playing everything from hard-swinging tunes reminiscent of a New Orleans street group to the orchestral woodwind whirls of a klezmer ensemble. Just when you think you’ve settled in, you may even hear a break out into the opening of ’s War Pigs.

Chastity Brown Thurs. 4/23 – 9:30pm Historic Masonic Temple (All Ages) Neo-Soul, Blues, Roots - Minneapolis, MN Rooted in gospel & soul, country & blues, Chastity is a 2013 alum of MWMF. This multi-instrumentalist — guitar, , banjo, saxophone — with four albums under her belt (& a fifth due out this spring) has also made a name for herself in Europe, where she toured again earlier this year.

Pieta Brown Thurs. 4/23 – 8:00pm Historic Masonic Temple (All Ages) Folk-Blues, Roots - Iowa City, IA Red House Records artist and daughter of Grammy-nominated folk/bluesman Greg Brown, Pieta’s languid, ethereal vocal delivery has weathered numerous comparisons to such singers as the ’ Margo Timmins. Her latest release, “Paradise Outlaw”, was recorded at ’s April Base studio in Wisconsin.

Noah Short Sat. 4/25 – 10:30am Blooming Grounds (All Ages) Experimental, Folk, Pop, Jazz – Winona, MN A seasoned songwriter and multi-instrumentalist also known as Mista Clue that has a keen knack for catchy tunes. Much like the canvasses he paints, his music stands out through the layering of clean acoustic guitar, complex lyrics, rich vocal melodies and the use of a variety of instruments.

Jay Simonson Sat. 4/25 – 8:00pm Broken World Records (front room) (21+) Lo-Fi, Indie-Rock, Psych-Pop – Minneapolis, MN Solo effort from the lead instigator of the band France Camp. His 2014 release “Free Trash” is an understated and under-rated lo-fi gem complete with cascading psych guitar and full of fresh hooks and catchy lyrics.

The Slamming Doors Fri. 4/24 – 7:00pm VFW (21+) Alt-Country, Roots Rock, Americana, Jam Band – Duluth, MN An eclectic mix of thoughtful lyrics, rocksteady drum beats, pounding rhythms and articulate leads, this 6-piece’s sound meshes jam band dynamics with a soul. 48 Small Town Anthem Thurs. 4/23 – 7:30pm The Eagles Club (18+) Roots Rock, Folk Rock - Minneapolis, MN Founded in small town Redwood Falls, MN by twin brothers in 2008, this quartet takes rock music and mixes it with reggae, funk, blues and folk to create an original, groovy sound with a driving pulse.

Savannah Smith Sat. 4/25 – 1:00pm Blooming Grounds (All Ages) Singer-Songwriter, Ukulele – Minneapolis, MN Ukulele-slinging, jazz-informed vocalist, originally from Eau Claire, WI, that displays a natural talent for lyrical density that raises her simple melodies.

Southside Desire Sat. 4/25 – Midnight Ed’s (no name) Bar (21+) R&B, Soul – Minneapolis, MN Angelic four-part harmonies ride under heated croons at their third straight MWMF, bringing neo-soul to a new standard with a wall of golden, femme-fronted voices and a thick, unstoppable groove.

Stereo Confession Sat. 4/25 – 8:45pm Wesley UMC (All Ages) Surf-Rock, Post-Punk, Shoegaze – Minneapolis, MN Unrelenting, uncompromising, coming-of-age rock ‘n’roll scrawled out on a notebook among doodles of skateboards, punks, and reckless ambition. Their late 2014 album, No Coast, has grabbed the attention of Twin Cities taste makers, as well as this quintet’s high school teachers.

With a shift more into his 60s and 70s influences, 2014’s Shapes That Kiss The Lips offer a familiar sound and his lofty voice in sepia tone.

Their musical amalgamation slams listeners into a world of medicinal bass lines, teeth whitening guitar solos, & ecstatic songs that awaken our inner child. Singer & Nicole Rae turns heads belting out gritty & bluesy vocal lines while banging her head between lyrics, with whipping in the air. All told, this energetic act is simply mesmerizing.

Dave Valdez has captured intelligently written songs with a layer of comforting dust in his 2013 release, Natural Habitat. This is music that is lyrical & melodic, but easily memorable amongst over-saturated airwaves.

We Are The Willows Fri. 4/24 – 7:30pm Historic Masonic Temple (All Ages) Indie-Rock, Chamber-Pop – Minneapolis, MN Returning to a MWMF stage for the fourth time with their new 2014 album Picture [Portrait], based off of over 350 letters written to front-man Peter Miller’s grandmother from his grandfather during his tour in the South Pacific during WWII. This orchestral sextet spells indie-rock at its most beautiful and honest state.

The Weathered Heads Sat. 4/25 – 6:30pm Historic Masonic Temple (All Ages) , Jam Band – Winona, MN Charismatic 6-piece inspired by & John Mayer with emotional vocals, jazz influenced improvisation, and vibrant pop melodies led by eponymous frontman Craig Weatherhead. Pangaea, his collaborative album with producer Big Cats, was released in 2014 to critical acclaim. Their polished live sets feature a progressive strain of hip-hop that owes as much to Flying Lotus’s free-form textures as it does to Yeezus-style aggro-rap.

Yellow-Bellied Sapsuckers Fri. 4/24 – 6:00pm The Eagles Club (18+) Roots, Country, Vaudeville, Folk – Viroqua, WI Charming & adorable duo performing both original and traditional old-time fiddle tunes with tight harmonies, while bringing a light musical touch and a great sense of humor. Their newest album was recorded by veteran Minneapolis engineer Tom Herbers on analog one-inch tape in a 125-year-old chapel.
