This identity helps members provide answers to questions such as “who are we?”, “how are we different from similar organizations?” and “how are we alike?”. Thomism: Philosophical school of thought that follows the work and legacy of Saint Thomas Aquinas, who was a philosopher and theologian. One of his major works is the Summa Theologica, which depicts medieval theology at its best and is considered to be very influential to the Catholic Church. Rosarista identity: The organizational identity of the Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Senora del Rosario, known today as Universidad del Rosario. Academic Inbreeding: It refers to the recruitment practice where universities hire their own PhD students after graduation, who subsequently remain at the institution to work for their entire careers. This work will use an expanded definition of this concept which will be explained in latter pages. 3 Resumen El presente trabajo describe la identidad organizacional de una antigua Universidad Colombiana – Universidad del Rosario – desde 1890 hasta 1991. Esta descripción detallada se realizó con el propósito de hacer preguntas y señalar algunos de los desafíos que esta universidad se encontrará al educar las nuevas generaciones de la nación para la sociedad del conocimiento. Este documento también describe brevemente las características más importantes de la sociedad del conocimiento, así como las características de las universidades que desarrollan sus actividades en ella. También, se hace una síntesis sobre el estado de desarrollo de la sociedad del conocimiento en Colombia. Finalmente, se extraen algunas conclusiones a acerca de las oportunidades de cambio que tendrá la identidad Rosarista para continuar siendo relevante en el siglo XXI. Palabras Clave Identidad Organizacional, evolución organizacional, sociedad del conocimiento, Colombia, universidad Abstract The present work describes the organizational identity of a longstanding Colombian university – Universidad del Rosario –from the 1890’s until 1991. Such detailed description is performed with the aim to pose questions and point to the challenges that this university will face in educating the nation’s new generations for a developing knowledge society. The document also briefly outlines the main features of the knowledge society the characteristics of the universities in such society and Colombia´s current state towards it. Finally, some conclusions are drawn on the opportunities of change that the Rosarista identity will have to address in the 21st Century in order to maintain its relevance. Key Words Organizational identity, organizational evolution, knowledge society, Colombia, university 4 INTRODUCTION “The prime strategy of an organization is the maintenance of its cultural identity in terms of prevailing values. A virtuous circle from the collective experience of success through stabilized values to cohesion and efficiency sustains the continuity of culture. But if the alternatives allowed for by the culture are unsuited to new problems, then the virtuous circle becomes a vicious circle impeding change.” (Gagliardi, 1986, pg.117) In many cases, change is the answer to survival and in the best case; it is an opportunity to excel. We believe that given Colombia´s current circumstances -to which we will come back- the University of Rosario may find itself in the best of cases, only if change aims for core transformation. This is the case of the University of Rosario, a 360 year old Colombian university, who claims that its organizational identity, the Rosarista identity, is a fundamental pillar in its educational project and it is a source of value added when compared to peer institutions. The only problem is that the meaning of being Rosarista that has lasted over 360 years no longer exists in 2014. In spite of the University´s discourse and its efforts to impress upon its students such identity, there are, so far, no institutional documents issued by the university’s government from the past forty years that contain such definition

Portier This dissertation examines the theological work of John Hugo by looking at its roots within the history of Ignatian spirituality, as well as within various nature-grace debates in Christian history. It also attempts to situate Hugo within the historical context of early twentieth-century Catholicism and America, particularly the period surrounding the Second World War. John Hugo (1911-1985) was a priest from Pittsburgh who is perhaps best known as Dorothy Day‟s spiritual director and leader of “the retreat” she memorialized in The Long Loneliness. Throughout much of American Catholic scholarship, Hugo‟s theology has been depicted as rigorist and even labeled as Jansenist, yet it was embraced by and had a great influence upon Day and many others.

Foreword In our pluralistic age we recognize many traditions have special gifts to make to a rich, well-balanced spirituality for our time. My own life has shown me the spiritual tradition stemming from St. Dominic, like that from his contemporary St. Francis, provides ever fresh insights. No tradition, however, can be understood merely by looking at its origins. We must see it unfold historically in those who have been formed by that tradition in many times and situations and have furthered its development. To know its essential strength, we need to see it tested, undergoing deformations yet recovering and growing. Therefore, I have tried to survey its eight centuries to give some sense of its chronology and its individual personalities, and of the inclusive Dominican Family. The same thing, which was asserted by this renowned Pontifex — one of the most renowned of the Church — is championed today by those who fight against Jewish Imperialism and for this reason are called anti‐ Semites, i.e., to prevent that the Jews rule the Christians and as a result vilify [344] Pope Gregory VII.

Using the gospel as a theological leitmotif - an approach to Christian doctrine that begins with the gospel and sees each locus through the prism of the gospel - this text represents a truly evangelical theology, unlike the usual systematic theologian written by an evangelical theologian.     BOOK REVIEWS CHRIST, THE SACRAMENT OF THE ENCOUNTER WITH GOD. By E. Schillebeeckx, O.P. Foreword by Cornelius Ernst, O.P. N.Y.: Sheed and Ward, 1963. pp. 222. $4.50. "The problem is one of communication!" A cliche, yes, but relevant to countless situations: the relations between unsympathetic Father and recalcitrant Son, between vested clergy and resentful laity, even between Orthodox East and Catholic West. And the reference seems always to be to mutual isolation. As a cliche, however, the statement is meaningless until we have es­ tablished what the basis of the "communication" in question is. A case in point is the theology of the sacraments. Here is a "problem of com­ munication," for the sacraments are meant to be just that, communication between God and man, in fulfillment of the promises of the New Covenant. Fr. Schillebeeckx's terse little volume is essentially an attempt to uncover the basis of this singular communication, which we may call with him, an encounter with God. The source of all sacramental encounter-i.e., of man's every personal meeting with God under a visible form-is the Redemptive Incarnation. Christ is the primordial sacrament in the sense that in his personal activity the measure of God's love for man is revealed. The mystery of his passage through death to life and exaltation on the right hand of the Father, where, as Kyrios (the Lord), he sends the Spirit to enliven the Church-this mys­ tery is the revelation in human form of Trinitarian life. The Incarnate Son obediently offers his life that the world may know that he loves the Father, and that they who are initiated into the mystery may know that the Son of God has nothing which is not the Father's.
