Ins. matsum. n. s. 75: 1–18, 5 figs. The status of two taxonomically problematic species, Enochrus (Methydrus) uniformis (Sharp, 1884) and E. (M.) vilis (Sharp, 1884), are studied. Enochrus vilis is affirmed as a distinct species and restored from synonymy of E. (M.) affinis (Thunberg, 1794). The lectotype of E. uniformis is designated. Enochrus uniformis and E. vilis are redescribed. Enochrus vilis exhibits geographical variation in body size and the shape of the median lobe of the aedeagus. Two morphologically differentiated populations of E. vilis (northern and southern populations) were detected in Japan. Genetic distance of the COI gene between the specimens collected from Hokkaido (northern population) and Yamaguchi Prefecture (southern population) is 1.67%. Occurrence of E. affinis in Japan is confirmed and diagnostic information of the species is provided. Author’s address. Peck Department of Biology, Carleton University, 1125 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa, Ontario K1S 5B6, Canada stewart_peck@carleton. ca Abstract. The beetle fauna of the island of Dominica is summarized. It is presently known to contain 269 genera, and 361 species (in 42 families), of which 347 are named at a species level. Of these, 62 species are endemic to the island. The other naturally occurring species number 262, and another 23 species are of such wide distribution that they have probably been accidentally introduced and distributed, at least in part, by human activities. Undoubtedly, the actual numbers of species on Dominica are many times higher than now reported. This highlights the poor level of knowledge of the beetles of Dominica and the Lesser Antilles in general. Of the species known to occur elsewhere, the largest numbers are shared with neighboring Guadeloupe (201), and then with South America (126), Puerto Rico (113), Cuba (107), and Mexico-Central America (108). The Antillean island chain probably represents the main avenue of natural overwater dispersal via intermediate stepping-stone islands. The distributional patterns of the species shared with Dominica and elsewhere in the Caribbean suggest stages in a dynamic taxon cycle of species origin, range expansion, distribution contraction, and re-speciation. The project has three primary objectives, which have been met. The objectives are: 1) Prepare an inventory of the Meramec River basin to provide background information about past and present conditions. 2) Facilitate the reduction of riparian wetland losses through identification of priority areas for protection and management. 3) Identify potential partners and programs to assist citizens in selecting approaches to the management of the Meramec River system. These objectives are dealt with in the following sections titled Inventory, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyses, and Action Plan. Inventory The Meramec River basin is located in east central Missouri in Crawford, Dent, Franklin, Iron, Jefferson, Phelps, Reynolds, St. Louis, Texas, and Washington counties. Found in the northeast corner of the Ozark Highlands, the Meramec River and its tributaries drain 2,149 square miles. -

SGMA seeks to achieve sustainability, which is defined as the absence of several undesirable results, including “depletions of interconnected surface water that have significant and unreasonable adverse impacts on beneficial users of surface water” (Water Code §10721). The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is a science-based, nonprofit organization with a mission to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. Like humans, plants and animals often rely on groundwater for survival, which is why TNC helped develop, and is now helping to implement, SGMA. Earlier this year, we launched the Groundwater Resource Hub, which is an online resource intended to help make it easier and cheaper to address environmental requirements under SGMA. As a first step in addressing when depletions might have an adverse impact, The Nature Conservancy recommends identifying the beneficial users of surface water, which include environmental users. This is a critical step, as it is impossible to define “significant and unreasonable adverse impacts” without knowing what is being impacted. To make this easy, we are providing this letter and the accompanying documents as the best available science on the freshwater species within the boundary of your groundwater sustainability agency (GSA). -

Se presenta por primera vez una lista de las especies de coleópteros acuáticos que habitan en el parque nacional Chaco y en el refugio de vida silvestre El Cachapé, dos áreas protegidas pertenecientes a la ecorregión Chaco Húmedo. Se identificaron 122 especies incluidas en 45 géneros y 10 familias. Dos especies se citan por primera vez para la Argentina: Ora atroapicalis Pic y Ora semibrunnea Pic (Scirtidae). -

Notes on Anacaena, Crenitulus and Paracymus (JH Epler, March 2015) Crenitulus has been considered a synonym of Anacaena for some time, but was recently reinstated as a full genus by Fikáček & Vondráček (2014). Recent work by Fikáček & Vondráček (2014) and Archangelsky & Fikáček (2004) has provided a better understanding of the separation of the larvae of Anacaena, Crenitulus and Paracymus. Komarek (2005) separated the widespread (Canada to Argentina) Anacaena suturalis and four other Neotropical spe- cies into a “suturalis-group”; Fikáček & Vondráček (2014) reinstated the name Crenitulus for this group. It is doubt- ful that Anacaena occurs in Florida, but the single possible species, A. limbata (Fabricius), is keyed on p. 12.17. Just remember that the first taxon keyed there is now called Crenitulus suturalis (LeConte). Archangelsky & Fikáček (2004) found that the larvae of Anacaena and Paracymus have been misidentified for a con- siderable time, going back to Richmond (1920), who interchanged the larval descriptions of the two genera. Other authors had followed suit; see Archangelsky & Fikáček (2004) for a more complete listing of these errors. Note that the larva described as Paracymus subcupreus in Archangelsky (1997: 124-125) is that species, but the larva illustrated as “Anacaena infuscata” (pp. 130-131) is a Paracymus. Thus my couplet 18 (Epler 2010: 12.8) just keysParacymus twice! A corrected key separating the larvae of Anacaena, Crenitulus and Paracymus is provided below. An additional caveat - do not confuse Crenitulus with Crenitis Bedel, a genus that does not occur in Florida. Archangelsky, M. 1997.
