Title: Across the Sea of Time Close to Ellis Island he gets off and thus starts his journey to America the same way as all immigrants in former times. Thomas is searching for the family of one of his ancestors, who had emigrated decades ago, but once sent a letter home together with a sample of his new profession: 3D-Photography. The boy follows his relative's traces by counter-checking the old 3D-Photographs of New York using an antique viewer with the same places and how they look today. This The Sea of Time, the audience gets to see the Big Apple in former times as well as today. Its visual effects may seem a little outdated - although this certainly adds to the charm - but it conveys its sweet little plot with a sense of grandeur. I'm shocked and disappointed that it clearly wasn't popular enough to sustain an audience, as it is now virtually impossible to find a cinema anywhere that is showing it. So sad. If IMAX want to save themselves, they need to commit to getting great filmmakers and allowing them to tell their stories on the big screen, as was clearly their policy when they created this. Nantucket series - Wikipedia The Nantucket series also known as the Nantucket trilogy or the Islander trilogy [1] is a set of alternate history novels written by S. The novels focus on the island of Nantucket in Massachusetts which was transported back in time to The Sea of Time due to something called "The Event". Shortly thereafter a conflict develops between the democratic Republic of Nantucket and a group of renegade Americans led by the ex— Coast Guard lieutenant William Walker. The series was nominated for the Sidewise Award for Alternate History in The Nantucket series is a variant on a well-known theme in time travel literature, in which a modern person is hurled back into the past and is able to introduce modern technologies, inventions and institutions, and completely change the past society. Sprague de Camp 's classic " Lest Darkness Fall ". Poul Anderson disputed the plausibility of such scenarios in his " The Man Who Came Early ", in which a man marooned in the past finds that - however capable and skilled in modern-day engineering - it is not The Sea of Time for one person to introduce modern technologies all by himself, since he would not have "the tools to make the tools to make the tools". The Nantucket series gets around this difficulty by having not a single isolated person The Sea of Time into the past, but a whole island, with several thousand people of various backgrounds and skills, and in possession of a considerable amount of the physical and written resources of modern civilization - making their success much more plausible. Eric Flint used a similar literary device in his series. In the three novels of the Nantucket series, a cosmic disturbance characterized by an The Sea of Time dome of fire called "The Event" in the series transports the island of Nantucket and its inhabitants back in time into the Bronze Age. The world of circa BC, which corresponds to the late Heroic The Sea of Time of Greek mythologyis populated by a large variety of hunting, nomadic and agricultural people, as well as well-documented Bronze Age cultures including Ancient Egyptthe Hittitesand Mycenaean Greece. The trilogy describes the day-to-day problems of adaptation and survival and the emotional and social trauma of losing connection with The Sea of Time modern world. Much of the plot deals with ongoing conflicts between the different factions of the island's population. Some Nantucket residents wish to dominate the world for their own benefit, others wish to interact with local populations through trade and cultural development, while most just want to survive, work hard, and claw their way back to something approaching their pre-Event way of life. They have the extreme good luck to have, transported in time together with the island, the US Coast Guard barque Eaglecaptained by a tough, experienced Coast Guard captain, who provides leadership for Nantucket's armed forces. She insists upon using the term " Coast Guard " rather than " Navy ", though what she eventually builds up is a worldwide naval force. However, the ambitious and totally unscrupulous The Sea of Time lieutenant William Walker is also transported back with the ship. He seizes the opportunity to form a band of renegades, and flees the island with The Sea of Time ultimate goal to found a dynasty amongst the Bronze Age peoples of Europe and the Middle East. Walker—who, unfortunately, is as smart as he is callous—exploits the 'magic' of gunpowder and iron- forging to build up an empire of his own, one that he believes will inevitably conquer and enslave the entire world. Therefore, as the series progresses, it becomes clear to Nantucket's scaled-down Government that sitting The Sea of Time and reinventing isolationism is no real option, and that the people of Nantucket have no choice but build an army, a navy, and a set of foreign alliances of their own and take the fight to Walker - and in the process, build up what amounts to an empire of their own. By the end of the third book, Nantucket is The Sea of Time dominant member of a sizable and expanding network of allies, rather reminiscent of the British Empire though Britain itself is called "Alba" in the novel, one of Nantucket's protectorates and a source of "warrior tribes" to be enrolled as mercenaries in its armiesand the Nantucketars "Eagle-People", "Islanders", "Nan-Tukh-Tar", etc. The The Sea of Time Alliance rules the British Isles where Walker initially tried to carve out a kingdom, and are a close ally, a source of labor and military recruits, and, as its people absorb more of the New The Sea of Time, look like being at the heart of a very early Industrial Revolution. BabylonHittite Empire and Mitanni a vassal of Babylonare also allies. At the end of the third book, these allies are already laying plans for carving up the Caucasus and Persia between them. • Part Iii. Nantucket and the World's People
PART III. NANTUCKET AND THE WORLD’S PEOPLE Foreword Nantucket’s English settler families were not the first inhabitants of the island, nor has there ever been a time when their progeny, the “descended Nantucketers,” were the only residents. Sarah P. Bunker, who serves as the leitmotif for these Nantucketers, lived in a house built hard by a Wampanoag burial site and inherited a basket made for her father by Abram Quary, Nantucket’s “last Indian.” When she was a girl, her father—a sea captain in the China trade—was in the habit of receiving crewmen and foreigners at home, and he employed live-in “help” to assist with the care and upkeep of what was grandly known as “the Pinkham estate.” Years later, in the straitened circumstances of her widowhood, Sarah P. supported the household by nursing injured, sick, and dying people of “all sorts” as Nantucket’s bone-setter Zaccheus Macy had done a century earlier.1 As she lived out the last decade of her life in her upstairs room, what reached her ears from downstairs day in, day out was the incomprehensible conversation of her grand- daughter-in-law’s relatives from Finland. Sarah P. knew full well that on Nantucket there were strangers to be found wherever one turned, not just in sailors boarding houses and the servants quarters of descended Nantucketers’ houses. Parts I and II have followed the history of the Wampanoags who were in possession of the island before the English came; the Africans who were brought here by the English; and many people who came from other islands in the employ of Nantucketers.

THE ALL-IN-ONE AUDIOBOOK In the tenth year of the Change, the survivors in western Oregon have learned how to live in a world without technology. The city-state of Corvallis has preserved its university, and trade flourishes via riverboats and horse-drawn railways. Under the strong hand of Michael Havel, the Bearkillers hold the lands west of Salem in peace and order. And in the eastern half of the Willamette Valley, the Clan Mackenzie flourishes under the charismatic leadership of Juniper Mackenzie, bard and High Priestess. Together, they have held the Lord Protector, Norman Arminger—the warlord of Portland— at bay. With his dark fantasies of a neofeudal empire, Arminger has extended his power over much of the Pacific Northwest, spreading fear with his knights, castles, and holy inquisition. Even more dangerous, and perhaps Arminger’s most powerful weapon of all, is the ruthlessly cunning mind of his consort, Lady Sandra. The tensions between these factions have been building for some time, and the only reason they haven’t confronted one another on the battlefield is because Arminger’s daughter has fallen into Clan Mackenzie’s hands. But Lady Sandra has a plan to retrieve her—a plan that threatens to plunge the entire region into open warfare. S. M.
