The Yard benefited from a balanced offensive attack. The top 2 hitters in the lineup, 2B Alex Sink ('04, Ragsdale HS, Jamestown, SC) and SS Cale Iorg ('04, Karns HS, Knoxville, TN) each reached 3 times on 2 singles and a walk. 1B Travis High (Wesleyan Christian Academy, Kernersville, NC) had a double and single and 2 Rbi's. RHP Dontavious McDowell ('04, The Tucker School, Atlanta) got the win with 3 innings of 1-hit, 7 strikeout relief. The Bombers scored 3 runs early with the help of Knoxville walks. RF Chris Wiley ('05, Hartselle HS, AL) had 3 singles for the Bombers but was stranded on base twice and thrown out at the plate the other time. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Central Florida Red Raiders @ East Cobb Giants July 15, 2003 Score by Innings: 123 456 7 R H E Central Florida R...000 020 0 2 4 0 East Cobb Giants....120 100 X 4 7 0 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Page 1 JrdivBoxscores Central Florida Red Raiders AB R H BI East Cobb Giants AB R H BI -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Will Cherry, 11 3 0 0 0 Chris House, 14 2 0 0 1 Tye Buckner, 45 3 0 0 0 B. The Raiders, who just finished another tournament late Sunday night, were missing players and got off to a predictable slow start in the 9:00 am game. Meade retired the first 11 Raiders hitters with little trouble before a 4th inning walk. The Giants scored a run in the first inning when SS Brenton Cianci (Riverwood HS, Atlanta) singled and came all the way around on Central Florida wild pitches and passed balls. East Cobb added 2 runs in the second on an Rbi single by LF Anthony Fusco ('05, Lassiter HS, Marietta, GA) and a bases loaded squeeze by CF Chris House ('05, Pope HS, Marietta, GA). LHP Shawn Newman ('05, Bartram Trail HS, Oviedo, FL) pitched the last 5 innings for Central Florida, hold East Cobb to 1 run. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Columbia Angels @ All Star Baseball Acad. In 2021, the Mount Paran Christian sophomore showed a diverse pitching arsenal that left opponents guessing, home run power as a batter, defensive consistency as a third baseman and the agility of a gazelle as a runner. https://www.mdjonline.com/sports/baseball-player-of-the-year-cam-collier-mount-paran-christian/article_052675aa-d065-11eb-bf91-f7bd899a73a0.html 1/5 6/21/2021 Baseball Player of the Year: Cam Collier, Mount Paran Christian | Sports | mdjonline.com However, Collier’s greatest skill is not limited to the position he is playing at any given time. He carries a finisher’s mentality all over the field. “He wants the better, the harder situation. The more difficult the situation, the more he enjoys it,” Mount Paran coach Kyle Reese said. “You run across those (difficult) paths a lot of the time, and Cam is a guy that absolutely thrives in them. Whether he is in the batter’s box or on the mound, the game’s on the line, he wants to determine the outcome of the game.

That same day Alex Rodriguez hit his 500th home run and all those fans with steroid anxiety suddenly discovered a new hero. Even before Bonds had officially passed Aaron, A-Rod became the Great Clean Hope who would surpass "Mr. Bonds," as Bud Selig so warmly called him, and bring the home run crown back to the kind of people who hold it by divine fiat. The next day Tom Glavine won his 300th game, becoming only the fifth left-hander and the twenty-third member of that exclusive club.

NAME OF THE GAME: DO STATISTICS CONFIRM THE LABELS OF PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL ERAS? by Mitchell T. Woltring A Thesis Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Science in Leisure and Sport Management Middle Tennessee State University May 2013 Thesis Committee: Dr. Colby Jubenville Dr. Steven Estes ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would not be where I am if not for support I have received from many important people. First and foremost, I would like thank my wife, Sarah Woltring, for believing in me and supporting me in an incalculable manner. I would like to thank my parents, Tom and Julie Woltring, for always supporting and encouraging me to make myself a better person. I would be remiss to not personally thank Dr. Colby Jubenville and the entire Department at Middle Tennessee State University. Without Dr. Jubenville convincing me that MTSU was the place where I needed to come in order to thrive, I would not be in the position I am now. Furthermore, thank you to Dr. Elroy Sullivan for helping me run and understand the statistical analyses. Without your help I would not have been able to undertake the study at hand. Last, but certainly not least, thank you to all my family and friends, which are far too many to name. You have all helped shape me into the person I am and have played an integral role in my life. ii ABSTRACT A game defined and measured by hitting and pitching performances, baseball exists as the most statistical of all sports (Albert, 2003, p.
