  • Sesame Street Platinum All-Time Favorites
“Sesame Street: Platinum All-Time Favorites” (1995) Added to the National Registry: 2014 Essay by Kathryn A. Ostrofsky (guest post)* Joe Raposo Original album cover Jeff Moss “Sesame Street,” which premiered in 1969 and is still producing new episodes 50 years later, is one of the most recognizable and beloved programs in the history of television. Its meticulously- researched curriculum and its memorable puppet characters have long been acknowledged to have been important factors both in “Sesame Street’s” popularity and in its contributions to American culture, but its music has been just as critical. As a musical comedy-variety show, “Sesame Street” has broadcast thousands of songs and released over one hundred albums, along with scores of singles and book-and-audio sets. Catchy melodies attracted preschoolers’ attention, repetitious song structures served as teaching tools, and professional performances rendered the children’s program entertaining for adults who controlled the dial. Meanwhile, releasing albums extended “Sesame Street’s” lessons beyond the broadcast hour and helped fund continued production of the show. “Sesame Street” reached nearly every American preschooler for decades, cutting across lines of ethnicity, region, and social class. Thus, although “Sesame Street” is rarely mentioned in lists of popular music, it is probable that more Americans can sing “C is for Cookie” than know most of the chart-topping hits of bygone years. The “Platinum All-Time Favorites” album is a compilation of recordings from “Sesame Street’s” first 25 years, released in 1995 by Sony Wonder on cassette and CD. It represents “Sesame Street’s” prolific output of broadcasts and recordings, which served as a common cultural experience for generations of American audiences.

1 Calm and Bright - Let Us Sing - Isaiah 9:1-7 Norwalk Christian Church, December 23, 2018, Calm and Bright Series, Advent 4, Year A You probably don’t know his name, but I know you’ve heard his songs. He was the one who first asked us as children, “Can You Tell Me How to Get, How to Get to Sesame Street.” He taught us, “It’s Not Easy Being Green” and that “C is for Cookie”. Joe Raposo was the official composer for Sesame Street. He wrote his most famous composition in 1971, a song simply entitled “Sing”. It began in the mouth of Muppets and traveled the world, thanks to the Carpenters who decided to sing, “Sing”. They took it to a top-ten and Grammy Nomination. Since then, it’s been recorded over 50 times and sung by such a diverse group as Lena Horne, Gloria Estefan, Garth Brooks, and even Ben Stiller and Conan O'Brien. The song brings joy. The words are simple, but I challenge you to hear it sung without smiling, just a little: Sing, sing a song, Sing out loud, Sing out strong, Sing of good things not bad, Sing of happy not sad Sing, sing a song, Make it simple to last, Your whole life long Don't worry that it's not, Good enough for anyone Else to hear Just sing, sing a song. The song changed Joe Raposo’s life, propelled him from Sesame Street to international fame. But in 1988, he just wanted to get away from it all.

  • Art – Reflexiones Acerca De La Gestión De La Calidad En

  • 'The Monster at the End of This Book' Is Still Selling — and Inspiring Authors
Democracy Dies in Darkness 50 years later, ‘The Monster at the End of This Book’ is still selling — and inspiring authors By Danny Freedman Jan. 27, 2021 at 8:00 a.m. EST As a 4-year-old, Brad Parks was so ravenous for “The Monster at the End of This Book” that his older brother — facing endless requests to read the story — finally recorded a version on an audio cassette. For Parks, now an accomplished author, the book was a formative introduction to suspense. “The fact is,” he says, “I am 46 years old, I write thrillers for adults, and in some ways all I’ve ever tried to do is replicate ‘The Monster at the End of This Book.’ There is a monster at the end of all of my novels, and I want you to feel this unbearable compulsion to turn pages and find out what it is.” Parks is far from the only one to get hooked on the story. The book, featuring Grover from “Sesame Street,” was published by Little Golden Books in 1971, and 50 years later nearly 13 million copies of various editions have been sold. “But that Little Golden Book — that classic, the way it first came out — is the one that continues to just sell and sell and sell,” says Mallory Loehr, a senior vice president at Random House who oversees its imprints for young readers. It’s one of the top-10 selling Little Golden Books of all time. A decade-old interactive app version has been downloaded more than half a million times and is among the most popular book apps.

Happy Birthday! Two Peds in a Pod turns Six Years Old! Caroll Spinney, a.k.a. Bird Bird and Oscar the Grouch, addresses the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference in 2011 (Dr. Lai’s iPhone 3 or 4 captured this “high” quality photo) Today, as Two Peds in a Pod turns six years old, we think about our favorite six-year-old, Big Bird. A friend sent me this link to an interview with Caroll Spinney on NPR. Now 81 years old, Caroll Spinney has played Big Bird on Sesame Street since the show first aired in 1969. According to the puppeteer, Big Bird has always been six years old. Spinney wanted Big Bird to forever bubble over with the curiosity and enthusiasm for learning which characterize a six year old’s development. In kindergarten or first grade, a six-year-old rapidly gains new skills. They learn how to read at this age if not earlier. They like to belong to a group and feel included. Sit in the back of a first grade classroom and listen to the class have a conversation. The teacher may ask the kids, “Who has ever been to the ocean?” and watch all the hands go up. As she calls on each child to tell his story about going to the beach, some kids tell about their beach vacations, some talk about which relative or friend they visited at the beach, and at least one six-year-old will say “I never saw the ocean, but I have a dog!” because they want so desperately to belong to the conversation.

More speciWcally, we examine whether increases in theta (t3–7 Hz) and gamma (around 40 Hz) band power occur in response to sen- tences that were either semantically correct or contained a semantically incongruent word (semantic violation). ERP results indicated a classical N400 eVect. A wavelet-based time-frequency analysis revealed a theta band power increase during an interval of 300– 800 ms after critical word onset, at temporal electrodes bilaterally for both sentence conditions, and over midfrontal areas for the semantic violations only. In the gamma frequency band, a predominantly frontal power increase was observed during the processing of correct sentences. This eVect was absent following semantic violations. These results provide a characterization of the oscillatory brain dynamics, and notably of both theta and gamma oscillations, that occur during language comprehension. 2005 Elsevier Inc.
