Catchy melodies attracted preschoolers’ attention, repetitious song structures served as teaching tools, and professional performances rendered the children’s program entertaining for adults who controlled the dial. Meanwhile, releasing albums extended “Sesame Street’s” lessons beyond the broadcast hour and helped fund continued production of the show. “Sesame Street” reached nearly every American preschooler for decades, cutting across lines of ethnicity, region, and social class. He was the one who first asked us as children, “Can You Tell Me How to Get, How to Get to Sesame Street.” He taught us, “It’s Not Easy Being Green” and that “C is for Cookie”. Joe Raposo was the official composer for Sesame Street. He wrote his most famous composition in 1971, a song simply entitled “Sing”. It began in the mouth of Muppets and traveled the world, thanks to the Carpenters who decided to sing, “Sing”. They took it to a top-ten and Grammy Nomination. Since then, it’s been recorded over 50 times and sung by such a diverse group as Lena Horne, Gloria Estefan, Garth Brooks, and even Ben Stiller and Conan O'Brien. The song brings joy. Wer nicht fragt, bleibt dumm.“ Mit diesem Titellied wurde die deutsche SESAMSTRASSE am 8. Januar 1973 zum ersten Mal ausgestrahlt. Erfunden worden war die Sendung jedoch in den USA von dem nicht kommerziellen Unternehmen Children’s Television Workshop. Ein Team von Psychologen, Pädagogen, Werbefachleuten, Ärzten und Fernsehredakteuren hatte damals untersucht, was Kinder am Fernsehen besonders fasziniert. Das Ergebnis: Tiere, Puppen, Cartoons, Slapstick-Komik, Tempo, Witz und Prominente als Wissensvermittler. Auf der Grundlage dieser Erkenntnisse wurde SESAME STREET entwickelt. Zielgruppe waren vor allem Kinder aus unterprivilegierten Bevölkerungsschichten, die man bereits im Vorschulalter fördern wollte. In Deutschland wurde die Einführung der innovativen Serie kontrovers diskutiert. In den Anfangsjahren strahlten der NDR und andere dritte Programme synchronisierte Fassungen der amerikanischen Originalserie aus. Dabei wurde auf Amerikanismen verzichtet, und immer häufiger wurden deutsche Einzelbeiträge – beispielsweise zum Thema Alphabet – in die Folgen eingefügt. 1978 begann eine neue Ära der SESAMSTRASSE: Als Kulisse für die Rahmenhandlung entstand eine neue Straße mit Wohnhäusern und einem Marktstand. ATLANTA (January 14, 2014) – Center for Puppetry Arts officials announced today details on the organization’s highly anticipated renovation and expansion plans. The project, set to be completed in 2015, will include a new museum, with a Global Collection and the world’s most comprehensive collection of Jim Henson’s puppets and artifacts. Project highlights also include a new library and archival space, a renovated entryway and many other upgrades to existing spaces that will ultimately enhance the experience for Center for Puppetry Arts’ visitors. As the nation’s largest nonprofit dedicated to the art of puppetry, these updates will allow the organization to continue to touch even more lives through the art of puppetry while giving guests a new appreciation for the global scope and universal power of the art form. As part of the project, the Center is protecting and preserving hundreds of international and Henson treasures for future generations to explore and understand.
