Thanks to the JCCE for creating a fantastic opportunity for any artist focused on public engagement and beautification! As a resident of Ventura County, I have long had a relationship with Santa Barbara regarding art and local history. I have been a 21 year contributor to the I Madonnari Festival at the Old Mission, creating large scale ephemeral pastel murals for the public. This festival gave me my 'start' in public philanthropic works, which I carried onwards as my career of choice. Prior to the discovery of street painting I enjoyed a career in mural painting, creating original works in a variety of painting traditions for large hospitality and commercial properties. I continue to work in this capacity on select projects. My husband Sayak Mitra is an art practitioner from Kolkata, India, who has relocated to Ventura, in hopes of expanding his art career while making a new life here in the US. A gifted designer /artist, he has shown his work throughout India and is a regular contributor to the Kolkata art community. Sayak Mitra My main subject matter involves cultural nuance, political issues and social incidents, which are employed to establish discourse on the relationship between simple human emotions - love, happiness, agony - through the language of abstraction. Investigating human values in present time, I take ordinary mundane objects, scenes, symbols & characters, and introduce them as symbols of something much deeper. The multidisciplinary nature of my work is inspired by fugacious exploration of human existence with unrestricted palette. Using representational elements in union with repetitious forms, I emphasize the pleasures of eternal entanglements. I take from the world around me - whether it be semiotics or journalistic materials like newspaper, magazine photos or television news. Even the popular algorithm of STA/LTA requires extensive research to determine basic thresholding parameters so as to trigger an alarm. Also, many times due to human error or other unavoidable natural factors such as thunder strikes or landslides, the algorithm may end up raising a false alarm. This work focuses on detecting earthquakes by converting seismograph recorded data into corresponding audio signals for better perception and then uses popular Speech Recognition techniques of Filter bank coefficients and Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) to extract the features. These features were then used to train a Convolutional Neural Network(CNN) and a Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) network. The proposed method can overcome the above-mentioned problems and help in detecting earthquakes automatically from the waveforms without much human intervention. For the 1000Hz audio data set the CNN model showed a testing accuracy of 91.1% for 0.2-second sample window length while the LSTM model showed 93.99% for the same.

INTRODUCTION The common law lives on analogy—its power to change depends on whether the creative new things individuals do every day that get them into trouble can be correctly assimilated to conduct that has previously been ruled legal or illegal, determined to be the subject of damages, or protected as part of individual liberty. We might find this dilemma captured in the famous Sesame Street ditty that goes, “One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just doesn’t belong . .”1 Since the Supreme Court’s development of ever-more nuanced versions of the public forum doctrine, starting with cases such as Perry Education Association v. Perry Local Educators’ Association,2 among other refinements of its Speech Clause jurisprudence,3 much free speech jurisprudence has taken on a common law caste, one analogy after another. South-South Śāntiniketan and Modern Southeast Asian Art: From Rabindranath Tagore to Bagyi Aung Soe and Beyond Yin Ker * Nanyang Technological University Abstract Through the example of Bagyi Aung Soe, Myanmar’s leader of modern art in the twentieth century, this essay examines the potential of Śāntiniketan’s pentatonic pedagogical program embodying Rabindranath Tagore’s universalist and humanist vision of an autonomous modernity in revitalizing the prevailing unilateral and nation- centric narrative of modern Southeast Asian art.
