[generalNote]: Hanes gweinyddol / Braslun bywgraffyddol | Administrative history | Biographical sketch Nodyn | Note Cefn is in the civil parish of the same name, which was formed in 1865 from that part of the parish of St Asaph that lay in Denbighshire. The mansion of Cefn is called occasionally Cefn in Wigfair in early 18th century deeds, and occasionally Cefn Meiriadog in 1790s-1820s deeds, after the townships of Wigfair and Meiriadog between which it lay. The mansion is now called Plas-yn-Cefn, but was called Cefn until at least 1883, and the estate was called the Cefn estate until at least 1892. The Plas-yn-Cefn estate was owned by the Lloyd family until it failed in the male line with the death in c. 1848 of Edward Lloyd. The estate was inherited by his eldest daughter Anna, who married Herbert Watkin Williams-Wynn (1822-1862), second son of Sir Watkin Williams-Wynn of Wynnstay (1772-1840), in about July 1855. The Plas-yn-Cefn estate became part of the Wynnstay estate which in 1873 measured 87,919 acres in Wales, with an estimated rental of £43,274.     The Cefn Viaduct Cefn Mawr Viaduct The Chester and Shrewsbury railway runs at the eastern end of the Vale of Llangollen, beyond the parish boundary, passing through Cefn Mawr on route from Chester to Shrewsbury. It is carried over the River Dee by a stupendous viaduct, half a mile down stream from the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. It measures one thousand five hundred and eight feet in length, and stands one hundred and forty-seven feet above the level of the river. The structure is supported by nineteen arches with sixty foot spans. In 1845 rival schemes were put forward for railway lines to join Chester with Shrewsbury. Promoters of the plan to link Shrewsbury to Chester via Ruabon had to work quickly to get their scheme moving. Instructions for the notices and plans were only given on the 7th November and they had to be deposited with the clerk of Peace by the 30th November 1845. Hostility from objecting landowners meant that Robertson had to survey the land by night. One irate squire expressed a wish that someone would 'throw Robertson and his theodolite into the canal'. Henry Robertson told a Parliamentary Committee of the advantage of providing a railway line that would open up coalfields of Ruabon and Wrexham to markets at Chester, Birkenhead and Liverpool in the north and to Shrewsbury and other Shropshire towns on the south side. The Parliamentary Committee agreed with him and the bill received Royal Assent on 30th June 1845. The Shrewsbury and Chester Railway Company made good progress with construction work and the line to Ruabon from the north was opened in November 1846.

The annual event is a great opportunity for the residents of Llandyrnog and its environs to get together purely to socialise, as well as to admire the wonderful produce and crafts exhibited. However, there has been an excellent response to an appeal for photographs in lieu of the show. This is a wonderful colourful version of the Llais, which is also available in print for the first time since March. Condolences: Bryn Bellis, Erw Frân, has Diamond Wedding Anniversary passed away following a long illness. We send Gwyn and Valerie were married at St Mary’s our sincerest sympathy to Carol and all the Church, Denbigh 27th August 1960, and the family. Our condolences also to Sylvia and reception was held at the Crown Hotel.     Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust Historic Settlement Survey – Denbighshire - 2014 Landyrnog SJ 1070 6500 105968 Introduction Landyrnog is one of several historic settlements that developed along the eastern flank of the Vale of Clwyd, with the river itself little more than one kilometre to the west and the Clwydians rearing up 2km to the east. The surface of the land here is relatively flat but the church is positioned almost equidistantly from two converging streams and the ground falls away gently on the south side of the settlement. The B5429 runs through the settlement from north to south, and Denbigh lies to the west on the far side of the River Clwyd, about 5km away. This brief report examines the emergence and development of Llandyrnog up to the year 1750. For the more recent history of the settlement, it might be necessary to look at other sources of information and in particular at the origins and nature of the buildings within it. The accompanying map is offered only as an indicative guide to the historic settlement. The continuous line defining the historic core offers a visual interpretation of the area within which the settlement developed, based on our interpretation of the evidence currently to hand. It is not an immutable boundary line, and will require modification as new discoveries are made. The map does not show those areas or buildings that are statutorily designated, nor does it pick out those sites or features that are specifically mentioned in the text. We have not referenced the sources that have been examined to produce this report, but that information will be available in the Historic Environment Record (HER) maintained by the Clwyd-Powys Archaeological Trust.

SH97NW Grid Reference SH9279178052 www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk Interior Early C19 stick-baluster, single-flight stair to entrance hall with swept pine rail. Stopped-chamfered beamed ceilings to ground and basement floor rooms, that to former hall framed in three ways, that to basement room at L with broach stops and wall corbelling. Corbelling to the front-facing wall of this room relates to a lateral fireplace in the room above. This has a square-headed, ovolo-moulded C17 sandstone surround; a box-framed oak partition to the L is contemporary, the C17 ovolo- moulded doorcase to which has been removed (for storage) by the present owner (5/97). Wide lateral fireplace to hall (rear range) with primary corbelling supporting a C19 plastered brick arch.
